How exactly does acid-dipping work - esp race cars?
Q inspired by the link below. Is it just a giant vat of acid, with entire car lowered in?
Surely it's more complex than that, esp regarding, the hazards, run-off, environment, etc

Yes, it's a giant vat of acid, and they lower the entire (stripped down) car into it. You can see examples on YouTube:

What they are doing it for there is to remove paint, but it has been done to race cars in the past to actually etch away metal, making the car lighter, to bend the rules. Smokey Yunick is maybe the most famous person to do it:

Smokey Yunick reference in the wild! The man is a legend at bending the rules without flat out cheating. His books are some of the only books I've read as an adult. And more than once they are captivating and detail some rule interpretations!

I'm always amazed when people admit they don't read books, like that's not really shameful.

I'm not sure the romance novels that sell in droves is any better than reading reddit either.
Either is still way ahead than tiktok though.

That feels like an insult in the first half, and a pity in the second yet also a support. Weird.
2 out of 10 writing rating. I leave things open for interpretation as a filter for unnecessary douchebaggery.

Smokey Yunick is the reason for many rules in the NASCAR rulebook. He'd find loopholes, abuse them. A new rule would be put in to stop that loophole.

"lil skinny rulebook and eating an elephant" - one of Smokey's book names

" the rulebook is written in black and white but I read in gray" -also Smokey

"There are two kinds of racers- cheaters, and losers." Allegedly.

Read the title and thought "oh, a TransAm question"

Smokey is always an interesting read. Scale cars made with lighter tin. A supposed chevelle that was 7/8 size but was actually massaged into a more aerodynamic profile.

Yep for paint removal but, yes used to shed weight at times. And smokey. That dude was creative as hell.

Acid dropping works by... oh wait- never mind, I'll see myself out...

That's one way to make your car change colors.
