He lived in Rome, studied in Rome, became a priest in Rome... long before he was Pope. I'm pretty sure he knows where it is. Not sure what you're saying about Protestants lol.

The current pope:

earned his BS in 1977 at Villanova, where he took Hebrew and Latin. He lived in the Augustinian friary and worked as a cemetery groundkeeper at Saint Denis Catholic Church.

took his solemn vows in 1981

earned his master's of divinity in 1982

was ordained as a priest in Rome 1982

earned his licentiate of canon law in 1984 in Rome

earned his doctorate of canon law in 1987 in Rome

joined the Augustinian mission to Peru in 1985, where he served for two decades

fluently speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese. He can read and understand Latin and German, but not really converse.

Suffice to say, whatever your ideas of the "Average American" may be, the Pope is not the average American. He's a very impressive individual.
