You stopped in the yellow box, so no.
epicmindwarp@reddit
You can try, but you clearly entered when it wasn't clear to exit.
Beer-Milkshakes@reddit
You could go in the right lane. Stop dead, indicate back over and you wouldn't get a PCN from the camera.
WillBots@reddit
You really couldn't there's no right turn to justify it.
WillBots@reddit
Waiting to turn right at a junction is a valid reason for stopping in a yellow cross hatch.
This isn't that. This is a queue for lights up ahead where the cross hatch is clearly designed to allow traffic across the road before the junction.
1Moment2Acrobatic@reddit
That like like tram tracks through the box markings. If so, OPs lucky it's only a PCN, not an encounter with a tram.
Used-Fennel-7733@reddit
No, waiting to turn right is an extension of your exit being clear.
Your exit is clear on the right but you can't get there because of oncoming traffic. If your exit on the right is full then you can't park in the box either
Leader_Bee@reddit
If it's the red car I agree. Furthermore its not just any yellow box, you can clearly see tram lines passing through it. Not a great idea to stop in that yellow box at the best of times, nevermind when obstructing a tram.
LOLLER4879X@reddit
Specifically it whether there is stationary traffic blocking your exit if it’s moving when you enter that’s fine.
Jimathay@reddit
I genuinely thought you were the black car coming to a stop at the start of the video, and was about to comment how ridiculous the PCN was, as you'd clearly entered the box with a clear space for you to exit, and cleared the box appropriately without stopping.
Then this red car appears from no where, yolos it into the box and then parks within it.
You've tagged serious replies only - so seriously - not a chance you have any legs to stand on here.

Darkwaxer@reddit
I got stuck in a yellow box last week, was behind a car, turning right, our exit was clear. The car in front started turning right and then saw the red traffic light which was stopping the cars in the lane/road we were entering and the suddenly had a brain fart and thought that red light was for us. I’ll be furious if I fine comes my way.
VOODOO285@reddit
You entered when it was not clear to exit. Then took a month of god damned Sundays to set off when the lights went green. Were you on your phone? Were you waiting for an engraved invitation?
Not only are you bang to rights on the junction box but if I had my way I’d find you for taking so long to set off.
TommyDickFingers85@reddit
You dropped in the box, not a leg to stand on. And as an aside, you're criminally slow to pull away once traffic starts moving again
OrganicPoet1823@reddit
Bang to rights sorry
CrispyPotatoPuff@reddit
31 - Entering and stopping in a box junction when prohibited. -> Yes that's what happened
Can i appeal this? -> Yes
Would i be able to say I was turning right on the round about. -> No
Or say I timed the amber lights to come on but the cars didnt move on time? -> No
Im the red car. -> Yes
True-Abalone-3380@reddit
You not only stopped in the box junction, but were very slow to get going. What you could have done is changed lanes to the right and that would have got you off it.
However, that does look like a difficult yellow box to fully see from the drivers perspective.
In lane 2 it starts well off camera, is on a bend, and also possibly a slight incline. Add that the yellow box is very faded in places I'd say the council need to sort that out.
Perhaps you could try an appeal based on the markings are not maintained.
Realistic-Tiger-2842@reddit
You tagged this as serious replies only but I really can't help but wonder if this is actually a joke.
Evening-Tomatillo-47@reddit
Good luck.
I had the back tyre on the edge of the box. I could have moved up and block the pedestrians so I got an £80 fine for thinking of others and not being able to see through my van
But I'm not bitter about it as you can see /s
Baynonymous@reddit
You can hardly blame the other cars for not moving when you're the only one that's slow to move off. The car coming behind you might have had a reasonable excuse. You also had all the time in the world to see the box wasn't clear.
Looks to me like you weren't paying attention to either the yellow box or the lights
beanyfartz@reddit
Wonder if they were on their phone
cannon4344@reddit
What if the car at the lights stalled and the lights had to go through another cycle and then a tram came? You would be blocking the tram which is exactly why the box junction is there.
PracticeNo8733@reddit
Doesn't work - the exit wasn't clear when you entered so that's not an excuse. If someone else had done something wrong/weird and blocked your exit after you entered you might have had an excuse.
Rastapopolos-III@reddit
You broke the law by stopping in a yellow box.
There is a defence to this if you were turning right, not thinking about turning right at some point in the future.
You want to appeal this by saying you were hoping the cars in front of you would go but they didn't pull off in time? When the video clearly shows all the other cars pulling of and you sitting there still doing nothing for a considerable time after? Be honest, were you checking your phone?
What gets me is that there were two lanes there that had ample space to clear the box but you deliberately chose the one that didn't have enough room. Just seems like poor planning all around.
If I were you I'd take the hit on this. I wouldn't want anyone official viewing this with more scrutiny.
GenericBrowse@reddit
Can you appeal it? Yes
Will your appeal be successful? No
Darkone539@reddit
You can see the light is red when you enter.
The only argument you could make here is you thought the car would fit, which isn't an excuse. You should have waited.
GarwayHFDS@reddit
why didn't you just pop to the right?
newtobitcoin111@reddit
Bro you quite clearly entered when exit was not clear
seriousrikk@reddit
Why do you think an appeal would be successful?
This was clearly a yellow box due to railway lines and you entered when the exit wasn’t clear.
It’s not a junction so the turning right part of the rules doesn’t count.
MegaMolehill@reddit
No chance. But what I don’t get is why don’t you change lanes and get out of the box once you realised you had fucked up?
Party_Advantage_3733@reddit
You can probably weasel your way out of it with a bit of effort but you certainly deserve the fine.

DigitalPiggie@reddit
You took so long to react to the lights turning green that you almost got the car behind you into trouble. Kinda defeats your point about anticipating the light change.
greytidalwave@reddit
I know this roundabout well. You stopped in the path of the tram tracks in the yellow box. If a tram had come you would have been an obstruction. That's why the yellow box is there, and why it is camera controlled. You have no grounds to dispute this and should have waited until your exit was clear.
GarrySpacepope@reddit
Yes appeal it. Clearly the biggest miscarriage of justice I've seen all day. I think you are obviously more important than anyone else on the road and should just be able to do whatever you want whenever you want.
Abject-Percentage790@reddit
This is not just any yellow hatched box either, this is a tramway crossing and you were obstructing the tram tracks. You had no idea if the lights ahead were going to change. At best you might delay a tram, at worst it might have hit you. This wasn't sensible; you probably want to pay up now and get it over with.
Rabkillz@reddit
Person stops in place they weren't meant too and complains about fine due to stoppong in the place they weren't meant to stop.
Lesson here is improve your driving ability and road awareness, and take this one on the chin as a lesson learned.
Peg_leg_J@reddit
No.
You clearly stopped in the box.
LANdShark31@reddit
No because you did stop in the box, that car could have been further forward but was stationary when you entered the box.
Also you took longer than my Nan to get going once the traffic had started moving.
LuckyOneTime@reddit
Errr nope.
Accomplished-Set4305@reddit
I would say no on both points you have raised On the turning right, reason for this is road markings show that both the lane you were in and the lane to the right cover a straight arrow, so it would no doubt be raised that you could have taken the right hand lane
For the anticipation of the lights turning amber, even though the amber signal became present as you came to a stop, you did not move off for 3 seconds after the car in front of you moved off, the car in front and other cars seemed to take approx 1 seconds to move away, hence it could be argued they were better prepared and you were not anticipating to move off so quick, in addition this 3 second delay can also be shown with the 2 vehicles entering that lane having to come to a stop as evidenced by the rear lights
If i was you, It would be best to take it as lesson learnt and pay any fines
surfermark99@reddit
If you're the black car in front of the red car appeared to stop only just clear of the box section, then yes I'd appeal that.
If you're the red car in the video, you are absolutely banged to rights on this. Any appeal is a no hope as you're CLEARLY breaking the law.
Lesson learned - the lane next to you was clear... Why wouldn't you do a last minute change of lanes to save yourself the ticket?
MLMSE@reddit
Of course you can appeal - that is your right. Whether you would be successful in another matter.
If you were turning right, why did you not go into the right hand lane which was clear?
txe4@reddit
Serious replies only you haven't a leg to stand on.
WillBots@reddit
This isn't a cross hatch on a junction for you to be able to turn right at. Those are where the right turn actually is. You e obstructed traffic and there is likely no chance of appeal.
Mysterious_Research2@reddit
Not a chance, Your car clearly has 3 wheels stopped in the yellow box
smithereens153@reddit
Watch some yellow box guru vids on tiktok. It’s more nuanced than people think. For example here because the other two lanes were clear maybe you weren’t “forced to stop due to the presence of stationary vehicles”, as you didn’t have to stop. it sounds stupid but might help you.
Dry_Action1734@reddit
If you were timing it with the amber surely you wouldn’t have belted it towards stopped cars, you would have slowly moved through the box until the traffic moved.
Either way, nah, you stopped in the box and that’s that.
Chaosblast@reddit
I didn't even know you could get fined for this wtf. I have stopped on them so many times by mistake. :S
stevethos@reddit
Not every yellow box has a camera. A lot in London do. Best to treat them all like they might have one.
Jamziboy0@reddit
Looks like you did exactly what the yellow box is there to stop you from doing, sorry!
stealthw0lf@reddit
There’s a yellow box guru guy on TikTok. He’s successfully helped people with appeals. There’s a lot more nuance to yellow box issues.
No-Temperature1604@reddit
Isn't there a law where it doesn't allow full street long yellow boxes.

I wouldn't use "I was guessing the lights would change" as an excuse.
