I have arex zero 1s and p226, I would say if anybody can get a arex sub 400, do it. The 9mm/.357 p226 supply is drying and we probably not gonna see good condition p226 goes under 500 dollar in near future given the limited supply/inflation.

Also the cheap 226s basically never have SRTs and the reset on the old/basic pre-SRT triggers is absolutely terrible especially for shooting fast.

Parros usually gets batches of 226s or 229s in 40 or .357 sig for around 300. My last 229 was 285 shipped and it was mint. Not a complete apples to apples comparison but something id consider.

Unfortunately those are far more uncommon and usually start around the 500+ price tag. You can get a conversion barrel however from 40 to 9

Go buy the Arex if you want a 9mm 226 under 500.
Buy a 226/9 if you have the money to throw for a 9mm version.
Buy the .40/.357 version if you have the money for ammo.

Im not disagreeing with you at all. The original comment was made to get a 226 from another user. I was just stating that if the look/esthetic you were after was a 226 style, then some police trade in still exist for cheap. Not if you want a 226 and 9mm.

The Arex is a good gun all by itself.
It is also not a P226 clone. It's a CZ 999/Walther P88 in a P226 suit.

as far as Walther P88 clones go, I think the Bersa TPR9 is better. These Yugoslav ones have these really thick and slick grips and are too pricey for how cheap they are.

That’s a fact! It’s downright uncomfortable unlike any other pistol I have. There are aftermarket grips that are thinner apparently, haven’t tried any yet.

I had one of the tactical versions and it was a nice gun for sure. I had the decocker snap on me, though. Global Ordnance fixed it up but it relegated it to “fun toy” rather than “trusted carry firearm”

That's why I hate decockers. The extra lock work involved always makes the triggers worse, and manually decocking is safe and easy with the right technique.

I had an alert set up for months and managed to snag a few a couple of weeks ago. Worst case, you can modify Beretta 92 mags to add the required D shaped mag catch hole.
