Great song!

I miss story songs. Almost everything these days is pandering and dwelling.
paintedwoodpile@reddit
Country music does a whole lot of that. I can't stand it.
Obi_Wan_Benobi@reddit
AKA Lilith fare.
paintedwoodpile@reddit
I saw Shawn Colvin play this song at the first Lilith Fair. It was a good time.
moleculariant@reddit
This and REM - Losing My Religion may be the top two contenders for most overplayed song of the '90s.

Do not put that evil in my head!
But for real, my cousin who is 2 years older than me would drive us to HS. She had this CD on repeat the entire year. I actually like AOB, but I freaking hate this song now.

I still love this song. “Oh light the sky and hold on tight. The world is burning down. She’s out there on her own and she’s all right.”
sweetbirthdaybaby333@reddit
I had this album in 1997 and while this was the best song on it (iirc), I still liked it a lot.
I remember I was in a supermarket in December 2016, all out of sorts, and this song came on and I started crying because the summer of 1997 suddenly felt so, so far away.
Thamnophis660@reddit
Holy hell this is relatable.
gnarlslindbergh@reddit
I had a lot of fun that summer.
The two songs I remember the most from that summer were Knock on Wood- Mighty Bostones and K’s Choice “Not an Addict”.

Sunny came home to her favorite room
Sunny sat down in the kitchen.
It's been so long since I heard that but damn it just jumped right back into my mind. That video was on MTV and VH1 a few times a day too.
OhTheHueManatee@reddit
Before I read the caption I thought that was Gary Busey.
AUTiger0325@reddit
Between Sunny coming home, looking for where the cowboys have gone, and not wanting to wait for our lives to be over, the chicks had some catchy ass toons.

I don't need a receipt for a doughnut. I'll just give you the money, and you give me the doughnut. End of transaction! We don't need to bring ink and paper into this! I can't imagine a scenario where I'd have to prove that I bought a doughnut. Some skeptical friend...'Don't even act like I didn't buy that doughnut! I've got the documentation right here! Oh, wait, it's back home, in the file. Under d...for doughnut.'

I am in my mid 40s and I have never ever heard this song or of this band.
FancyThought7696@reddit
That’s wild. (I’m not trying to sound offensive—I’m just amazed because hearing one line immediately got this song stuck in my head from hours of hearing it on the radio in high school.)
gatsome@reddit
I’m also perplexed at how this is possible
handsomeape95@reddit
For this to be true, someone would not have turned on a radio from 1997 to 1999, nor have ever gone to a dentist's office.
ryhoyarbie@reddit (OP)
Great song. It just popped up in my mind and I’m like, I need to listen to it.
The live performance she did on the David Letterman show is great too.
nancy_drew_98@reddit
I have a tattoo of the match from the album cover, and the line “It’s time for a few small repairs” - got it when I decided to move forward with my divorce.
Most_Beyond9318@reddit
I still listen to this song on the regular. Love it!
Texas_Kimchi@reddit

Sunny came home to burn shit down
Aronacus@reddit
is about a pyromaniac? yes! Some folks are shocked about that. But, if you listen to the lyrics. You can clearly tell she's a pyromaniac!
friendlynbhdwitch@reddit
One fire does not make a pyromaniac.
https://genius.com/Shawn-colvin-sunny-came-home-lyrics
Ph4ntorn@reddit
I just reread the lyrics, and I don’t think she’s a pyromaniac. She definitely lights one or more fires, but it seems to be about hurting people who hurt her. I don’t think she’s doing it just because she likes setting fires.
Funkdamentalist@reddit
I agree. You don't need to be a pyromaniac to be an arson. Pyromania is driven more by a psychological compulsion, whereas Sunny seems more to be motivated by vengeance.
Ph4ntorn@reddit
Almost like she came home with it.
NCDoGG@reddit
pingle1@reddit
I’m sorry but the radio slammed her music down our throats so much I find it hard to listen to her.

I saw her play a tiny solo acoustic show at the Hard Rock restaurant on San Diego maybe 12 years ago lol

I still don't know where all the cowboys have gone
PhoneJazz@reddit
18 years before “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone” was released, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings released “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys”.
ryhoyarbie@reddit (OP)
Maybe trying to find John Wayne is, or that prairie song, or that happy ending.
Ackapus@reddit
Pretty sure that was answered in Rango. No man can walk out of his own narrative... so maybe none of those were in her narrative to begin with.
AshDogBucket@reddit
Had this banger on a cassette tape single.

This song is quintessential 90s to me, and I heard it everywhere, but I honestly never even knew who sang it or what it was called until I watched the Lilith Fair doc recently.

I remember this song on regular rotation on VH-1 and hated it then years later listened to the lyrics and damn.

Where I'm from we have a popular local song called "Sonny's dream" which is more commonly known as "Sonny don't go away"...despite the different spelling, I've always thought of this as the sequel.

I remember this song. Didn’t care for it.
