Angry crows north of the Citadel Lookout?

To preface, I’m a tourist from the USA with a short few days here in Budapest. I’ve had a lovely time here so far and am already looking to come back when I have more time.
This morning I went for a 7 am jog and walk to check out the citadel lookout area. Walking up the south end, no problems, gorgeous view as the sun peaked up over the city.
I spent some time at the top taking pictures and headed down the north side without any clear direction, just meandering through the paths with the only goal of getting down. Up until this point I had been hearing the crows and noticing their indifference towards me, but they didn’t bother me and I wasn’t bothering them, so I thought we had mutual respect and all was good.
Then as I made my way near the area of the “spectacular tree” - I heard a loud caw right in my ear. A crow had flown down behind me and just missed my head. I stopped and looked up at it as it settled on a branch. Then it dove again this time coming right at me. I started running and this cycle of continuous dives happened another 3-4 times.
I picked a different path and finally made it down to where I thought I would be safe along Hegyalja Út - where all of a sudden another crow started to do the same thing, again over and over until I ran far enough away from it.
So is this a regular thing? I didn’t find anything else on this online so had to ask if locals had ever had a similar experience.
TLDR: Multiple crows dive-bombed me this morning walking along the north side of the citadel lookout.

Did you have anything black with you?
Soreiru@reddit
Damn, makes me remember the one time when I was collecting crow feathers on Margit sziget, and it happened to drag along a whole black cloud of crows across the whole island lol
ConvictedHobo@reddit
I read enough of Lorenz to know that collecting crow feathers is inviting trouble
Even a black nylon bag would make them attack you
Soreiru@reddit
I guess I only read King Solomons Ring
But I actually owned and flew corvids before
I think your statement is exaggerating, but I can see how it could draw some attention occasionally.

Should've written 'could'
If it's nesting season and you're near the nests while holding a black piece of cloth or something similar, then they can easily become hostile
picurebeka@reddit
You must have been close to one of their nests with younglings in it. They will fiercely defend them, even if you do not pose immediate threats. Also, they communicate with each other (even between generations) and they are known to hold grudges.

Minden egyèb állatot kiírtanak, bèkát, kiskacsát, más madarakat, sündisznót. Vadgazdálkodási szempontból sem kívánatosak.

Not exactly this
Probably close to the fledgelings that already left the nest, more like
The passing down info and remembering people are absolutely true though. There's a crow in our district near a gas station, that will attack my carhawker friend's car EVERY time.

Yeah, this is the time when they have their eggs hatch i think so they can be pretty aggressive?

Some of them are just racist.

Happens now and then around parks where they are nesting, some parks get closed down at hatching season.

This has been a common issue in some places in Budapest. There are a number of reasons:
- I mean, it's spring/early summer, so nesting season. Crows are protecting their nests & their chicks. In these times they're more aggressive than usual.
- Crows are very intelligent, which also means they are more playful than most other birds. Chances are the ones you met were just young crows having some fun - like when dogs convince themselves that the postman went away because they barked at him, crows also like to play "scare the human into running away" with joggers.
- A bunch of people have taken to "befriending" crows or even handraising them without knowing what they're doing, which resulted in a whole lot of crows that don't really fear humans but regard them as a source of food. So they approach humans for food and if they don't get it they become aggressive (also see: people fucking feeding bears, other wild animals)

They were probably nesting, they get very aggressive/protective. It’s a pretty common occurrence during nesting season.
