Do you have your college diploma hung in your home?

I’ve had my college diploma hung in my home office for a long time. I’m getting ready to move and I’m unsure where in my new condo I’d hang it, if at all. Seems kinda out of place now since my home “office” will likely either be in my family room or in my second bedroom. It seems like one of those things that will go into a box and end up in the back of a closet.
Thoughts?
ObscureRamenRecipes@reddit
My Bachelors was hanging in my office from the time I got it in 2016 to around 2020 or so. My wife then took it down and put it in our "important documents" folder. I assume my newly acquired Masters will go there too.
Maybe one day I'll have an actual job office to put this stuff in. One day....
Ambitious_Lead693@reddit
No. And the people I work with have no idea i have a degree. I have a BSME but haven't used it in 20 something years, totally irrelevant to my current job.
Flappadingo@reddit
Mine never made it to the wall. My masters is in a box in the garage with the frame but not IN it.
UpstartCrow88@reddit
I went to college a little later in life and it took me a little longer to do it as a single parent so I was extra proud to finally have my degree. But it's signed by the Governator so I refuse to display it.
Affogoto@reddit
Don’t have a clue where any of my degrees are. I feel like I never really needed them.
Secret-Function-2972@reddit
No, neither of them. Think I know where they are.
mentul77@reddit
Nope. In the box it has been in since I took it out of the cardboard tube.
TechnicalLanguage8@reddit
In a storage box in my closet.
HighOnGoofballs@reddit
I never paid to get mine
CartographerTall1967@reddit
Same, i didnt have $50 to get the paper version. Never needed it.
Fit_Beautiful6625@reddit
Mine are in my closet somewhere. I think.
Far-Ad5796@reddit
No. I never even put it in a frame. I'm not even 100% sure where it is, though I think I know. My high school diploma is in a little more carefully curated spot, not because my HS graduation was a big deal or bigger than my college diploma, but because my high school (and much of the rest of the area) burned down in a wildfire some years ago, and they had never digitized the records (they had been slowly working backwards, and hadn't made it to 1991 yet when the fire struck), so it's literally the only proof I have of attending and successfully graduating from high school. The school actually posted a notice telling anyone who had graduated before x-date that their records had been lost and to keep any paper copies they had.
Tough-Advice2910@reddit
Oh, wow. I never saw my HS diploma again after HE graduation ceremony. I’m sure I handed it to my mom and…..I don’t know.
Far-Ad5796@reddit
True story, they didn't give them out at the ceremony, but they also didn't tell us that ahead of time so there was a sudden, noticeable, ratcheting up of emotion as they started handing out the diplomas (the covers) then people returned to their seats, opened them, and nothing was there. Several people, including myself, had about a minute of "holy shit, did I bomb all my finals or something and not graduate?!?!" When somebody broke down in tears, they actually announced they would be mailed, LOL.
Acceptable_Mirror235@reddit
Mine is in the “important papers “ drawer in the metal filing cabinet, along with my birth certificate , social security card , and marriage license .
breadit8@reddit
I think mine is shoved in my college yearbook from senior year.
mpaloutz@reddit
Cubicle wall.
Ihaveaboot@reddit
I am more proud of the cross stich my mom gifted me when I graduated. Better than an diploma!
MadPiglet42@reddit
That's so lovely!
Ecstatic-Skill-4916@reddit
I like that!
Comedywriter1@reddit
That very cool!
The University of Pittsburgh is actually on my list of places to visit. Apparently George Romero’s director’s cut of Martin (black and white, 3 hours) is now housed there (and available for viewing) thanks to Greg Nicotero.
Suspicious_Art9118@reddit
Now you just need a miniature Heinz Chapel Choir to sing the Alma mater when you push a little button next to it
FelineHerdsCats@reddit
Finally got around to my BS last year. Had no interest in hanging it up at this point in my life. It felt more checking an inconvenient box than a big accomplishment, so I’d rather look at art on the wall.
thestatedrone@reddit
Mine are somewhere.
NoFollowing7781@reddit
Nope.... not sure where it is lol... I never even went into veterinary medicine, so, no sense hanging it up...🤷
Existing-Joke3994@reddit
Hang it above the dog’s crate
Val32601@reddit
It’s currently sitting in a storage unit.
Existing-Joke3994@reddit
Mine, too. I wonder how many others are in the same building. At night they all whisper about which one was the most expensive and have a good chuckle at our expense.
Val32601@reddit
Hahaha right
divinerebel@reddit
Mine is in an alternate universe. Where I had money go to go to college.
Wacko_Banana_Pants@reddit
I have one in the wall. I don't know who it belongs to as I bought it at a garage sale
themissq@reddit
I don’t even know where mine is….
Ajstross@reddit
Nope. I couldn’t even tell you where it is. The only time I have ever seen it since graduation is when packing up for a move or doing a deep clean. I open the leather book, glance at it, think “that’s nice,” and then put it in a box.
Unless you’re a physician or in some other profession where you’re expected to have your credentials hanging on your office wall, I don’t see the point.
betaday@reddit
I have one hanging in my office. I spent a lot of money and time getting it. It's the only way to show it off.
Past-Option2702@reddit
No idea where mine is.
GothGranny75@reddit
Nah, it's in a file cabinet with the rest of our documents.
AnitaIvanaMartini@reddit
My BA and MA are tucked into a bookshelf
Every-Improvement-28@reddit
Nope, got them framed and then… put them in a box. Mission accomplished!
MadCraftyFox@reddit
Mine is in a box somewhere. My first dog chewed it up a bit on one corner.
Lbboos@reddit
My MS is somewhere in a book case. Was a waste of time and money.
MaximumJones@reddit
My undegrad and graduate degrees are in a box in my attic.
TxCoastal@reddit
MA in theatre.. and i can't for the life of me tell you where that diploma is! let along BA one...
iAmAmbr@reddit
Couldn't afford one
DeFiClark@reddit
No, it’s a drawer somewhere. Last time I needed it was for an international work assignment in the oughts.
Tough-Advice2910@reddit
It’s funny, I would never think to use my diploma as proof. I would get a copy of my transcript.
DeFiClark@reddit
Was required for the work permit in addition to transcripts, plus it had to be translated to English from Latin and a certified letter from the Dean of the University that the degree program was taught in English (not Latin lol)
They actually required the original document. Finding it was a trick.
Joe-_-Momma-@reddit
Yes, I graduated with honors. I have my high school diploma, my college diploma and my kids' diplomas hanging on the wall too.
SdenRed@reddit
Went into the trash on graduation day.
Witty-Atmosphere-211@reddit
Nope. A couple years ago I noticed my mom was using my high school and college diplomas to balance her computer tower. These were the kind that were in a hardcover book.
flsingleguy@reddit
It’s been in a box for decades.
Electronic_Name_325@reddit
Nope, I have a BS (mechanical engineering)and two MS (mechanical engineering and electrical engineering). I know I went there and earned them, why in the heck would I hang them?
I have worked with complete dipshits with advanced degrees from MIT, including one PhD. I have worked with brilliant people with a bottom tier BS degree. Regardless of what degree you have, I expect within a few minutes I will know all I need to know about your educational background.
goosepills@reddit
Mine are in my office, I wouldn’t bother hanging them at home. Clients like to see them tho.
North-Neat-7977@reddit
Nope. Haven't looked at it since graduation. Might still have it somewhere but I'm not sure.
Wide_Breadfruit_2217@reddit
I didn't order one!
Tough-Advice2910@reddit
You had to order one? That is interesting. That may be the one thing that was included in both my undergrad and law school experiences that I didn’t pay extra for.
Wide_Breadfruit_2217@reddit
Maybe because Comm College😄
daemonhat@reddit
college diploma? what's that?
Ordinary_Repeat4503@reddit
Man, I must be in the minority! I have my undergraduate and doctoral diplomas hanging in my office, along with a couple other professional designations. Sounds like I’m in the minority, which is surprising considering how hard we worked to earn them.
rsuperjet2@reddit
Same here. 2 professional certificates in my office at work. Same certificates and college diploma will go on the wall in the bonus room soon, probably with my BJJ Blue and Purple Belt certificates. Necuase i worked just as hard for them as i did my work stuff
Tough-Advice2910@reddit
Yeah, with law you get admitted to different jurisdictions. My mom spent so much money on the beautiful framing I felt obligated to hang, but they filled my office walls til I could afford to start buying real art. Plus when I first started practicing people often thought I was the court reporter, so…
No-Interest-2066@reddit
No.
Automatic-Unit-8307@reddit
No. No idea where it is and dont care
Linux4ever_Leo@reddit
I graduated from the University of Michigan and we didn't even get an actual diploma. We got an empty diploma holder. If wanted the actual diploma that fit in it, you had to pay for it. The larger versions that you'd have framed cost a lot more. As a broke young person at the time, I didn't pay to get a diploma.
Tough-Advice2910@reddit
Fucking Michigan, man! :)
gdubh@reddit
No. I don’t even know where it’s at… or if I still have it.
kevbayer@reddit
Mine is packed away somewhere. It's so old and doesn't really apply to the career I had that I didn't see a point in displaying it anywhere.
Huge_Many_2308@reddit
I used to have them hanging up in my office, along with a few other professional certifications. When I called it quits and retired, they went in a file. They never mattered to me, it was just proof I was qualified. Between my wife and I we have four degrees, and nothing is on the wall.
Stephvick1@reddit
My wife has hers hanging in our spare room where she does her projects. It’s cool to look at and it makes her happy, I lost my high school diploma the day I got it. I have a culinary arts degree but lost that also.
txn_gay@reddit
Mine got destroyed in a flood.
SplitEights@reddit
No - still in the envelope mailed to me in 1992
LemonMeringueMe@reddit
As someone who didn’t really have the opportunity for higher education, it is disappointing to hear people be so cavalier about their own. My vote is to display it. I always appreciate seeing a certificate of accomplishment. Respect the success.
Tough-Advice2910@reddit
I did for about twenty years. Then it just….you know.
Cranks_No_Start@reddit
I have a small office/computer room at home and have my Diplomas and awards from over the years hung on the wall.
NvGable@reddit
I agree, but I also think if others would think it is.....um....too boasting?
bradford68@reddit
yes, in the basement, in the wife's craft room, covered in dust, behind the door that's always open.
OrangeMustangGal@reddit
Lost to a house fire 😞
purplishfluffyclouds@reddit
Aww - I'm so sorry! I'll bet you could get another one if you reached out and explained the circumstances
Tough-Advice2910@reddit
Yes, you can always get a replacement from normal schools.
OrangeMustangGal@reddit
Thank you. I don't know that I will ever need it.
purplishfluffyclouds@reddit
I'm not sure it's ever about "need." But it's something you probably worked hard for and should be proud of; maybe it's just a little piece of something to remind you of your hard-earned accomplishment. :)
HumanExpert3916@reddit
Hell no. I think it’s in the attic. Possibly thrown out?
texan01@reddit
Mine's hanging on my bedroom wall. I work from home so it's in my 'office'
adamrac51395@reddit
My dad got my diploma framed as he was a doctor and they always put their diplomas up. Mine is in a box somewhere - always has been. Never saw an engineer hang their diploma in their office, seems kind of pretentious.
Open_Appointment1091@reddit
Pft, diploma? I graduated from a now defunct technical school 37 years ago with a certificate.
makeup1508@reddit
No, we had our college degrees in our curio cabinet when we had one. We sold that when we sold our house, Now, we have our degrees in a plastic box in my office,
la_winky@reddit
No. I couldn’t even find it.
smokiechick@reddit
I've always kind of wanted a fancy mat and frame for my diplomas, but I don't know where I would put them. I do have an office at a job I couldn't get without them, but everyone I work with has those degrees and I don't think I've seen them in their offices - and if they are there, they made no impression on me. Maybe after I get my terminal degree... Or I could be snarky and put them up in the bedroom facing the bed. Whenever my husband doubts the veracity of my nonsense I could just point at them.
Tough-Advice2910@reddit
It is SO expensive. Framing and matting is a racket.
Loki12626@reddit
No. Mostly because my ex husband’s last name is on it I really just want to burn it😂
Tough-Advice2910@reddit
Another excellent reason to never change your name. Why should someone else’s family get credit?
Tough-Advice2910@reddit
Lord, no. My mom got all my diplomas and admission certificates framed as a graduation gift and I hung them in my offices for awhile. I think I had stopped even that by the time I had my last, largest office.
I would never hang that stuff in my home. I don’t even know where it all is now.
Cazzuta323@reddit
My mother framed my high school & college diplomas and had them hanging outside my bedroom in the hall.
I have thought about hanging them in my classroom (I'm a high school teacher) but I have never gotten around to it.
My Master's & PhD diplomas are unframed! I use the PhD one as a lap desk sometimes lol.
Important_Bed_6237@reddit
nah let mom and gma look at ‘em. ba & ms.
chempirate@reddit
Both of mine hang in the laundry room - which I refer to as my office 😊
MagnumPIsMoustache@reddit
Don’t even know where mine is
Ok_Membership_8189@reddit
In my office. I have the kind of job where that is common. It’s nice to have a place for it.
eugenesnewdream@reddit
No. I can't remember but I might have had it hung up many apartments ago. Then I had it (along with several other diplomas/certificates) hung in my office in two jobs. Then I left that second job to become a SAH parent so they're all in the basement. I went back to work after several years but honestly couldn't be bothered to bring in my diplomas to hang in my new office. Since Covid I work almost exclusively from home. I do have a home office but there's other stuff hung on the walls. So in the basement they remain for now. Maybe someday I'll do something with them.
PeaceLoveHippieness@reddit
Nah. Probably in the garage
kwiscalus@reddit
I hung ours when the kids were little because I read that it helps them internalize that goal, haha. Now that everybody's graduated, we're divorced and I've moved a couple times, no.
NJBlasian@reddit
Did the kids go to college?
kwiscalus@reddit
Yes, it worked! Even grad school
Yeahhhhbut@reddit
Definitely not. Though I was appointed a Kentucky Colonel by the state of KY for my service on an advisory panel. I've always wanted to hang that on the wall, maybe put a lil' light on the frame, and pretend I don't hear people unless they address me as "Colonel."
Secret-Asian-Man-76@reddit
Nope. I'm not even entirely sure where it is.
erictiso@reddit
I had them in my office at work, then we went part time WFH, and with hot-desking needed to clear personal stuff. Since that's less of a concern now, and I never lost my office, this reminds me I should hang them up again. Maybe this time in the home office.
willfully_slow@reddit
No, actually I have no idea where it is.
Rude_Vermicelli2268@reddit
I didn’t attend graduation because I knew I would not enjoy it and have never been back to my college town to collect my diploma (the mail in my country is not the best and typically one either picks up important documents or uses a private courier.)
Finally i asked my dad to puck it up for me about 20 years after graduation and now, 30 years later, I have no idea where that cardboard tube is. I don’t even have a recollection of looking at it.
lolagoetz_bs@reddit
Yes mine is hung up in a nice frame because the frame was a gift from my colleagues. I went to school at night and they gave it to me as a graduation gift. My masters degree is also hung up. I was working full time as a single mom while I got that one. It was hard work.
But if I move or something I don’t know 🤷🏻♀️
Hifi-Cat@reddit
Didn't finish.
itzyabish@reddit
Ours are hanging on the fridge with our kids artwork
NightGod@reddit
Closest I got is my caps and tassels on top of a bookshelf behind me. My diplomas are definitely SOMEWHERE around here
InsertRadnamehere@reddit
No. I never even bothered to get an official copy of mine. Just the one they handed out graduation day.
EffectiveVarious8095@reddit
That should be an official copy
InsertRadnamehere@reddit
Haha. Tell me you haven’t graduated without telling me.
SilverStory6503@reddit
No, at least not for a baccalaureate degree. Mine is in the basement someplace with some books. I did frame and hang my professional certificates in my work office.
InterestingHippo7524@reddit
Of my 3 degrees, only 1 is actually framed, none are on display. I'm not even sure I know where all 3 are, actually. My wife probably knows.
nerudite@reddit
Never bothered hanging it. I have a digital copy for job applications.
JT-Av8or@reddit
Yep, amongst others. In the office, (undergrad and grad) officer commissioning, pilot training, wife’s degree, awards etc etc and such all hung in the home office, library and bar, as appropriate for the decor.
Amazing-Software4098@reddit
It’s in a frame, but gathering dust in the basement. I probably wouldn’t have gotten it framed if my wife hadn’t framed her diploma.
adriennenned@reddit
I work with a lot of PhDs and MDs from fancy colleges so as a bit of a joke, I put my masters degree from a state university on the wall of my cubicle. Now I work from home and I don’t even know where that nicely framed piece of paper is. Either way, it’s just as relevant.
(FWIW, my at home background for work meetings is extremely professional: a giant cat tree and if we’re lucky, a cat)
GarlicFarmerGreg@reddit
Made a xerox of it 10 years after I got it for a job and right back in the drawer it went.
One-Hand-Rending@reddit
Mine? No.
Both my kids ?...Yes.
Neither of them wanted to even keep the paper so I framed them and hung them in the house. I paid for them, I should get at least something out of it. :)
TickleMyBurger@reddit
Your kids are secretly proud you did that btw - they put a lot of work into what you funded and it’s a testament to their success. At least that’s what I tell myself when I paid those tuition bills!
Redundant_fox221@reddit
My mom paid for the fancy university frame for my bachelor's, so I had that hanging in my little apartment office area during grad school. When I moved afterwards, the uhaul was stolen with everything in it. Haven't bothered to order a replacement yet. My master's is still in the envelope it was mailed in next to some notebooks and stuff.
Spiritual_Oil_7411@reddit
No. I think it's in a box in the basement with my high school yearbooks. 🤔

Seems like I am in the minority, but yes. It's in my home office.
Xyzzydude@reddit
So do I. My wife has three degrees and I’m very proud of her. She never hung them up so for Christmas one year I had them all framed and put them up.
savethebooks@reddit
That sounds like my husband :) I also have three degrees (two bachelors and a masters). I didn't get my bachelors until I was 32 and he was so proud of all the work I put into them that he had them professionally framed and hung up in our living room. We repainted last year and they haven't gone back up yet. Not sure if they will or just get put in my office closet (I have no room to hang them in there).
PsychologyFlat2741@reddit
Only my PhD (I know where my other degrees are, but the PhD was the only one that was really important to me - coming from the 'everyone goes to college generation'!), but same. My job framed it for me several years ago, and it looks good. And I'm proud of it.

terita-reddits@reddit
No. All my degrees are in storage.
Particular-Rough1994@reddit
Also in my home office. When we downsize in 3ish years, it’s going in a box in the basement!
jenorama_CA@reddit
I don’t have one, but my husband’s is framed in our home office by his desk. He graduated from UC Santa Cruz and his mom got him one of those UCSC-themed frames for Christmas one year, so we slapped it in and put it up. Looks pretty cool.
Apprehensive_Net_829@reddit
Sure do. My sister also has both of hers (master's degree) in her home.
Suspicious-Cat8623@reddit
Never did anything with my first BS. Later, I went back for a second BS, an advanced degree and a bunch of extra training and certifications. I framed all of that and it is on one wall of our home.
SurftoSierras@reddit
Home office has my degrees on one wall, my partner's degrees on the facing wall.
If we were to downsize someday, who knows.
Years ago I bought one of those art storage folders that artists use to show their work or take it someplace - made for paintings. Ours has slowly been filling up with old family large format photos, posters that we didn't want to throw away, grandpa's diplomas and military commissioning certificates, paintings made for or of us, or collected randomly, etc. I can see dumping them in that folder someday if I do another purge, but for now my home office is covered in framed documents and memories so they sit collecting dust.
Attjack@reddit
Yeah in my office. Actually it's leaning against the wall currently but I'll put it back up when I hang some additional pictures soon.
Panem-et-circenses25@reddit

Do you want to still display your diploma? Then display it. You don’t want to? Then don’t. Simple.
Quick_Parking_6464@reddit
If this is an undergraduate diploma, congratulations, now tuck it away somewhere. If you're a first generation college grad, then that's a significant step. Put it up at home, in your personal workspace or discreet location. A big deal for you and family, not so much for others. Home office, yes; company office, no.
If this is a PhD, MD, or JD (law degree), sure put it up. You often need these to practice in your field.
Some fields only offer a terminal Master's (there's no PhD). In this case, sure put it up.
Overall, be aware of context; if it could be seen as stuffy in a casual environment then don't hang it up. Keep it as your private milestone.
purplishfluffyclouds@reddit
If this is an undergraduate diploma, congratulations, now tuck it away somewhere
Bro, you have no idea what some people go through to earn those. People can hang them if they want to.
purplishfluffyclouds@reddit
Yeah - in my home office - but that's cuz I work from home, so it makes sense. It took me ages to earn that so F yeah I'm hanging it.
skeeterbmark@reddit
I don’t even know where it is.

OT: have you seen the Rice University diploma? It’s the size of a billboard! If I had one of those it would be in my LR.

My home office used to have lowbrow artwork behind me but I swapped it out for the framed degree, my graduation picture, honors cords for a Zoom interview to look more professional. Now that my employer insists on all of us being on camera for all meetings, I’ve just left it all up but I miss my artwork badly.
Angle_Of_The_Sangle@reddit
My bachelor's is in its folder, at the bottom of a drawer.
I read somewhere that it was gauche to display a bachelor's degree - you should only hang a diploma if it is needed to show your credentials (like a medical degree in a doctor's office). On reflection, that advice may have just been snobbery.
Cantseetheline_Russ@reddit
I have all my degrees framed and hanging in my home office.
Screamingfist_1990@reddit
I never even picked my diploma up after an administrative snafu resulted in me receiving a mortar board with a note saying, “you aren’t receiving your diploma due to one of the following reasons. . .” on graduation day.
I finally requested a copy of my diploma 20 years later when my spouse found out I’d never received it.

Mine went into a box in the closet as soon as I picked it up from the commencement office.
CletusDSpuckler@reddit
I never even picked mine up.
BabyKatsMom@reddit
Hubby and I have BA/BS, MS, JD/PhD all beautifully framed and sitting in a box on the floor of our home office. As we’ve gotten older I’ve wondered what’s going to happen to these pieces of paper we’ve worked so hard for? It’s not like our kids will want them. Do we take pics of them for genealogy purposes or do we just throw them away? 🤷🏼♀️
SimbaRph@reddit
No. I don't even know where it is tight now
ZoomToastem@reddit
No idea where they are and I couldn't tell you the official titles of my degrees
Overall_Lobster823@reddit
Just my Ph.D. That (a framed diploma) was a gift from my husband.
Signal_Cake5735@reddit
Same. I repeated Grade Three and was repeatedly told as a child that I was thick/unfocussed/impudent (yay, 1970s education!) so my PhD reminds me that I had it in me.
boiseshan@reddit
All of them. Most expensive wall paper ever
worrymon@reddit
No. The value in the diplomas are in my head not on my wall.
ernster96@reddit
Fuck yeah. After a presidents endowed achievement scholarship and a Pell grant and a Stafford loan, I paid for that motherfucker.
lovelylynda@reddit
I ran out of money to even get the diploma. My husband got college paid for by his parents and his diploma lives in the file cabinet.
AnastasiaNo70@reddit
Framed and hung, along with my masters degree, in the front room above the secretary.
TotalTeri@reddit
I don't have one, but I have my sons displayed in my home.
prairiehomegirl@reddit
I meant to have it framed. Thirty years ago.
Visible-Plenty-1202@reddit
Mine are all in plastic wallets in a ring binder file, just in case I ever need them.
buckrogers71@reddit
Mines in a filing cabinet. Grand plans of becoming a principal and hanging both grad and under grad...never happened. Lol

Tiredofthemisinfo@reddit
All my diplomas were stolen when someone broken into my storage unit and took everything so I hope they put my PhD on a wall but it was probably thrown in a dumpster
egret_society@reddit

No_Character_4443@reddit
I don't even know where my diploma is...
Legitimate_Ocelot491@reddit
I know mine is in a box that’s nestled amid many other boxes. Kind of like the end of “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
Imaginary_Attempt_82@reddit
I have my first one in the curio cabinet but it’s still rolled up in a tube. I’m not even sure where my nursing diploma is right now.
EljayDude@reddit
Our undergraduate diplomas I think are in their binders tucked into a bookcase someplace. My in-laws had my wife's PhD diploma framed and in our last house it was hung up in a hallway. I'm not sure if it got hung back up or not when we moved - we have an "extra art" box of things that didn't really fit anywhere. It's pretty cool looking so it feels reasonable to have it up someplace but it's not exactly critical either.
Important_Call2737@reddit
My parents bought frames from both colleges for both my undergrad and graduate degrees so I put them in the frames and hung them for a while but when I repainted a few years ago I took them down.
pantheroux@reddit
No. I have also completed med school, residency and 2 fellowships. I’ve never felt the need to frame any of those certificates and put them on the wall. In fact, I couldn’t even tell you where they are and whether they still exist.
My mom apparently still has medals I won for academic awards in high school and math competitions. She offered to frame them for me and I declined as it’s kind of cringy and I don’t need any more clutter in my life. Part of me thought it might be funny to do it in an ironic way - my colleagues have all of their medical credentials framed and I could have a million gold medals from my shitty high school.
anchises868@reddit
I had the diploma from my master’s program up for a while, but I took it down when we sold the house. It’s in storage now with the others.
ZebraBorgata@reddit
My parents had mine laminated and mounted. It’s hangs on one of the walls in a spare room. I forget it’s even there.
SnowblindAlbino@reddit
We have a half-dozen college and grad school diplomas between us. They've all been in a box somewhere since we got them in the 1990s. Nobody I know hangs theirs at home or at work, but we're academics so having a box of diplomas is sort of normed in our circles.
GimmeMyMoneyNow@reddit
Mine is in my home office. Next to this signed beauty!
Phobos1982@reddit
I had it up before my move during covid but haven’t fully unpacked (5 years later) so it’s not up yet in the new place.
Educational-Glass-63@reddit
Nope. I wonder where it is?
Blizzardof1991@reddit
Did you look in the garage?
Habeas-Opus@reddit
I read that as garbage…ha!
DangerBird-@reddit
Mine is the most expensive piece of paper I own. I treat it like a rare piece of art. I will always find a place to hang it. If I ever pay off a home, I’ll frame and hang the property deed.
Habeas-Opus@reddit
Throwback to the Silent Gen here. Used to work in a job where people had to prove they were married to us. I loved the folks who would literally bring in their marriage certificate off the wall in a frame.
damutecebu@reddit
I have no idea where any of my diplomas are.
Zetavu@reddit
I hung my masters for a while in my office but replaced that with patent and technical awards. Unless you're a medical doctor I don't see any value other than narcissism for hanging up a diploma.
sparkyindarky@reddit
My ego does not feel the need, personally speaking of coarse.
booberries423@reddit
Nope. I don’t even know where it is. If I find it, I’ll probably just toss it out.
Flaky-Debate-833@reddit
Why would you throw it out?
booberries423@reddit
I’m in the process of cleaning out my dad’s house and I realize how much clutter we accumulate that our kids will have to deal with. That’s just a piece of paper. I’ve never needed it. It’s not particularly impressive. No reason to keep it.
Flaky-Debate-833@reddit
Interesting take. Do you feel the same way about your kids' diplomas?
booberries423@reddit
Kind of yeah. Only one has graduated high school so far so I may change my mind. If they get advanced degrees and are professionals who would benefit from displaying them at work, I would view that differently but I probably would display anything like that in my house. I think I’m turning into a minimalist.
Flaky-Debate-833@reddit
I get what you're saying about displaying. To each their own. The concept of ever just tossing them is not something I think I could contemplate. Ironically, my current job actually wanted a photo of my college degree. First time any employer has wanted that. Luckily, I have it in a box under my bed.
WinterTourist25@reddit
Yup, in my office.
PuzzleheadedClue5205@reddit
I never framed my diplomas. I'm not even sure where they are right now.
AustinGroovy@reddit
College degree - nope.
I've got 30 years of certifications (Cisco, Microsoft, and junk) that used to fill my wall in my old office. Since Covid, cleaned up, took them all down, they are in a box.
Smurfiette@reddit
No diplomas on walls. No award certificates, deals. They’re all in some boxes somewhere.

Mudcreek47@reddit
We had our diplomas (HS & College) professionally framed and hung in our home office until we moved 10 years ago and now they're all in the attic somewhere in a box with other junk that'll never see the light of day.
Woody_Roger@reddit
God no.
Lytnin@reddit
No. I don't have any of my other professional certs up either.
MegaMiles08@reddit
Mine is in a drawer. I've never hung it up. I do work in recruiting, and I've seen enough situations where a diploma isn't verified in the background check, or it takes a really long time to complete. So, I do feel like it's important to know where it is.
Dr_StrangeloveGA@reddit
Nope. Mom had mine framed, I hung it up out of guilt I guess. Now it is somewhere in the garage. That was 31 years ago, doesn't matter now even though I work for the same college.
Double_Sweet_3404@reddit
Mine is hung up over my computer monitor. I am not sure if I were to move if I would put it up again.
HippieHighNoon@reddit
I never had them hung up before buying a house with a dedicated office. When I graduated undergrad and my masters, my mother got custom frames made. I was the first in the family to go to college and also the first for grad school.
Every time my mother would come to visit, she would ask about them since now I had a dedicated office to hang up my diplomas. So they went up on the wall. It actually worked out though cause I had removed an old thermostat thing on the wall and didnt cover it back up. One of my diplomas is covering the hole. Win win.
bdreamer642@reddit
Same. I don't think I would hang it unless I had an office.
HippieHighNoon@reddit
They had traveled with me in a box of memorabilia from place to place, state to state, for 15 years before i had a dedicated place to hang them. It's a box that never gets unpacked, and is still sitting in a closet unpacked lol. I probably wouldnt have hung them without my mother making a comment every time.
envoy_ace@reddit
I've never even seen my diploma. Civil engineering graduate in 1995. I left town the day after graduation and was gone for 4 months. My father placed it in a safe deposit box at his bank. I've never had the need to go there. it will be there if I need it.
gottaeatnow@reddit
Mine was in my office from 1999 to 2022. Our office moved in 2022. I brought it home in a box with other framed items and it’s been on the floor of my home office ever since.
Kitchen-Zebra-4402@reddit
I did in my old house. Moved into a condo four years ago and it’s in my storage unit in the building. My retirement plaque is now in the spot where I would have hung the diploma.

Ancient-Parfait6106@reddit
No, I think it may be in my closet? Or a drawer?
keithrc@reddit
I moved recently and haven't put it back up. I probably will, but it's not some burning desire. It was hanging consistently for the first 20 years or so after I got it, though.
FlippingPossum@reddit
My husband and I have our diplomas hung in our master bedroom. Our daughter's diploma is currently hanging in the hallway while she attends graduate school.

My PhD is on the wall in my home office. I earned that thing, it SAF is going on the wall.
Extreme-Pirate1903@reddit
When my spouse and I moved in together, I mentioned hanging up our diplomas, and he asked why? His family all have graduate degrees. I was the first person in my family to go to college, so I wanted to commemorate that.
It’s in storage now 30 years later. My JD is on the wall in my office.
Constant-Prog15@reddit
I don’t even know where mine is. I think in a “nostalgia “ box in the guest room closet.

Moist_Potato_8904@reddit
I do, I have both hanging up undergrad and grad. I got it late in life (40s), it's not to toot my own horn....it's to remind me that it's never too late to start something.

admseven@reddit
I don’t even know where it is. My spouse routinely loses her paper law diploma.
attaboy_stampy@reddit
yeah both of mine are. My dad framed them because he was proud of me and all that, and I just hung them up. My wife's is next to them. Although, they are not in a highly trafficked area. They were above our back computer room/video game tv room (a spare bedroom we use for computer and an extra TV to watch streamers on). They're above the TV rofl.

Bastyra2016@reddit
I graduated in ‘88 from a “esteemed” Engineering College . My parents supported me through journey and I think they were more stoked about the piece of paper than I was (the degree definitely served me well). For Christmas I got a nicely framed diploma. I put it in my “office” in my first house. I don’t think I displayed it in my second house but I was back to having an office in my third house. I’m now in what I hope is my final house and I put it on the plywood wall the of my shop along with the signed factory photos I got when I retired,my official retirement plaque and a few other awards.
Future-Mess6722@reddit
Yes. I got mine professionally framed and it hangs in my bedroom as we don't have an office. It is a little weird at this point, but it's been there like 30 years so... Whatever.
The_Calarg@reddit
I didn't attend graduation ceremony for my B.S. degrees and have absolutely no idea where the paper certs are. I did a double major in microbiology and biochemistry as they only had a 4 class difference at C.W.U. at the time, so I got with my profs and was allowed to use 2 of my electives to fulfill 2 of the classes. This allowed me to graduate in 3 years as I was going to school year round with overloads each quarter except my first which was not allowed.

Yes, they’re hanging up in my home office. My wife wanted them up. Before they were hanging in my parent’s bedroom. They never went to college and seemed to value it more. I think they deserved it more. They paid for my education.
Billy-Joe-Bob-Boy@reddit
I got my bachelor's very late (like 6 years ago). It's actually in my office at work because I only got the degree to comply with job requirements. Mostly I display it because my diploma came with a typo.

mookster1338@reddit
I had my doctorate framed and displayed because I worked my ass off for it. Not sure where my bachelor’s degree is.
bobgoblin888@reddit
Mine is in the back of a closet. My undergraduate diploma got ruined in a flood, but my masters is framed. I never had a home office or a place to hang it so it’s just been chilling in a closet since 2004.
Longster_dude@reddit
Nah. I never thought my AA from my local community college was worth showing off. My wife proudly displays her bachelor and masters degrees though.
nirrinirra@reddit
Never had it. Didn’t go to my graduation.
Fulghn@reddit
I had my diploma hung up at my work office for a number of years but eventually it was replaced with only the professional license. Was a matter of redundancy and simplicity. A lot of the time my 'office' was a hotel, rental car, plane, or even a tent.
At home? No. Time inevitably made that accomplishment only a tiny fraction of who I am. It's been in a box for a long time.
quipsNshade@reddit
Took it down and put up one of those Lego art “paintings” much prettier IMHO.
Entropy355@reddit
No way, dust collector. Not worth the paper it’s printed on. If you need something to hang up try some beautiful art, nature photos that inspire you or even a collage of friends from college.

Similar story; not quite retired but when we moved to our new house, we never found a reason to hang them back up.
Ray_The_Engineer@reddit
Not at this point...they hung for years in our old house, in the office, but seemed pointless after a while.
Crazy_Drago@reddit
No. I graduated in the summer, because I had to finish up a couple of classes, so the whole process was abbreviated. Apparently, I missed the date to register for what *type* of diploma I wanted, so I ended up with an oversized diploma that was completely in Latin. I remember it wouldn't fit on the copy machine when I needed to copy it for work to get a full-time position. I never bothered going back to see if I could get a smaller, English version. I was mad at my school after graduation.

I did, in the hone office, for about 10 years, then took it down. Mine and hubby's, plus hubby's patent certificate. After he passed and I moved, everything got packed up.
Sintered_Monkey@reddit
Yes, they are next to my desk. My master's degree was a cakewalk, so honestly it doesn't mean much to me, but my bachelor's remains the most difficult thing I've ever done, so I occasionally look at it.

The University of Pittsburgh is actually on my list of places to visit. Apparently George Romero’s director’s cut of Martin (black and white, 3 hours) is now housed there (and available for viewing) thanks to Greg Nicotero.

My college diploma, law degree, law license, and various court admissions are framed but are kept behind a chair in our bedroom. They have sentimental value to me but I don't like to attract attention to myself.
Conversely, my wife's college diploma is framed and hanging our home office. We have a young daughter and it's meant to be subtle reminder for what she can (is expected to) accomplish.
hornedcorner@reddit
Mine has never been on a wall. My buddy got his and put a thumb tack through the middle of it to hang his up.
BizarroMax@reddit
No. It’s at work I think. My law school diploma is in a box somewhere.
PsychologyFlat2741@reddit
Pre-pandemic my academic department was framing the faculty members' degrees for no cost so there would be a consistent look (they were encouraged to hang every degree starting with Bachelor's degree). I'm not faculty but have a PhD and asked if they would frame my 'terminal degree'. Because they would show off the research area to prospective hires, they agreed to have it framed, but I'd have to pay their cost. Got a very nice frame and mat for minimal cost. It now hangs in home office, because 20+ years later I still like looking at it from time to time and thinking 'go me!' (My other degrees are in the envelope of 'important documents' in the safe. I never look at them. And no one other than my dogs see this one, but it makes me happy.)
micfost@reddit
It was up in my home office. Now it is in the closet. We moved, downsized, and now there is not enough wall space for everything. Old family photos are taking priority.
Kattzoo@reddit
I knew hung either of my degrees. I couldn't even tell your where my Masters degree is.
Legal-Hair-7095@reddit
My college diploma disappeared years ago.
Think my mother threw it away because it was in a brown envelope because it had to be mailed to me. I couldn't make graduation due to military school. She threw lots of stuff away from us kids without asking. Really made us mad.
MissMurderpants@reddit
It’s nbd if you g do hang it. It’s a trophy or testament of those years of your life.
If you had a good time I’d keep it up.
InebriousBarman@reddit
I have a home office, so it's hung there.

WinnerAwkward480@reddit
LOL , OMG , I feel ya . We have a "few" plastic tubs from our last move 3 yrs ago that haven't gotten unpacked.
As we packed up the tubs got labeled as to Room , contents , then a number for priory 1-4 . Like ie - Kitchen / coffee pot & coffee / (1) . 🤣 honestly the coffee pot & coffee traveled in the Wife's car .As I was driving the 26' u-haul with 2nd car in tow .

DiligerentJewl@reddit
Yes after I got divorced I said to myself why the heck should I not hang up my college and grad school diploma.
pemart22@reddit
Yeah, neither of my parents and none of my grandparents had a bachelor’s degree, so it meant something to me. Especially since I paid for it mostly by myself.
cruisereg@reddit
Same, but even being the first generation in my family to get a 4 year degree isn’t enough for me to want to display it. I have displayed a patent plaque on and off over the years because it feels like a rarer achievement.

mudshark698@reddit
It's in my garage. It's been mistreated and it has a big slice in the middle of it. I went to school for an education, not a piece of paper (vellum). I wouldn't have even gone to graduation if my wife didn't make me.
drifter3026@reddit
Had a less-than-great time in college and my degree didn't really help me at all. I finished my degree requirements after fall semester so didn't even walk my graduation and just had them mail my degree to me. I did eventually hang it up about 20 years later. Not sure why. I think I just had an empty spot on my home office wall. I still look at it and shrug.

I did, then I moved and re-hung it. Then I moved again, the frame was smashed and I took it out and placed it in one of those cardboard mailer things to keep it safe, filed it away in a box. It’s somewhere in the basement, but I’m retired and have no interest in re-hanging it at this point.

My diploma got wet with all my other papers in 2004 when a hurricane took my roof, it got moldy before I could rescue it so I dried it out and bagged it up in a ziploc, it sit in its moldy glory in the bottom of a file drawer. Did you know insurance won’t pay for the reprinting of a diploma and the only value they will give is the value of the sheet of paper?
infinite_awkward@reddit
Insurance never fails to disappoint.
Did you explain the reason to the university? A very kind soul reprinted and shipped my Master’s diploma in my maiden name for $25 when I had my name legally changed two years after graduation (I’d been divorced for 10). She asked why I wanted the revised diploma and I said “(this name) is the family that walked this journey with me, not my ex husband; he only thwarted my growth.”

Yep. They are fancily framed and hung in our upstairs hallway, along with my black belt certificate. My husband was ridiculously proud of me for earning my bachelor’s degree at 37, black belt at 38, masters at 51. I’m contemplating a doctorate now, and if I earn it, I’ll be 60 by the time I get it.

I had mine on a wall until we moved in my 40s. For the last 18 years, it’s sitting in the office. I know I got it, I used it and now that I’m retired…it has no importance to me.

My mom had it framed with a picture of me at graduation and the tassel as a gift. I convinced her that it’s something she should have on her wall instead. It’s still there. aWesterner014@reddit
No. Neither mine nor my significant other's (multiple) diplomas are hung in the house.
Illustrious_Concern5@reddit
No, never have
molleensmrs@reddit
No. Nor do I still wear my high school class ring.

My diploma is in a box somewhere. I haven’t laid eyes on it for at least 15 years
Midlevelluxurylife@reddit
I have both my BA and Masters framed on the wall in my office. I’m the first in my family to finish college and I worked damn hard to get there. They will stay on the wall.
GenXenProud@reddit
I had both of mine (BS & MBA) framed. Recently threw them away. Purging and downsizing feels good!
mtfg96@reddit
I cleaned out the closet recently and threw it away. And my sister's since she didn't take it with her 32 years ago. I've already retired. I don't see any reason I would need the paper diploma.
Mammoth_Ad_483@reddit
I have my Bachelor's and Master's hanging over my desk at home. My wife has two Bachelor's from two different schools and they're both up there too. They've been there for a long time now, don't have a reason to take them down. But if I were to move, I would probably question whether I should put them back up or not.
Comedywriter1@reddit
No, but in my home office I have pennants on my wall for the schools where I did my Bachelor’s and Master’s. That and the movie posters kinda make it look like a dorm room. 😂
Ok-Lingonberry-8261@reddit
Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate in my office.
GroovyGmaIvy@reddit
Nope…in a box in the closet.
Mental_Ad_906@reddit
Never displayed mine. Was lucky to even locate my master’s diploma the first (and only) time I was asked to produce it…some 30 years after graduation!
Worth-Artist-6962@reddit
No it sits in a box in the basement
chimpyjnuts@reddit
Mine's in my home office. It was freakin expensive (thanks, Mom and Dad!) so I figured I might as well put it up.
iammostlylurking13@reddit
I have my college diploma and university degree hanging up. I went back to school in my mid-thirties and I’m really proud of them.
Secret_Computer4891@reddit
Nope. I never even bothered to pick mine up from the university when I graduated.
Pitapenguin@reddit
My BA & MS are hanging in my office at work. When I didn't or no longer have an office at work, they go in a file cabinet at home.
jaxbravesfan@reddit
I have no idea where mine is. I assume it’s in a box in the attic.
1996Tomb_Raider@reddit
My BA and MA are in their holders on a bookshelf
angelaelle@reddit
Mine is in a box somewhere. I saw it last when we moved last year but no idea where it is now.
cheweduptoothpick@reddit
I’ve actually lost mine. I have no idea where I put it. I know I out it somewhere safe but wherever it is, is super safe.
WhisperedSoul@reddit
I had my undergrad diploma framed upon graduation and it’s been hung ever since, 38 years and counting.
FoundationBrave9434@reddit
I’ve worked from home my entire career, so have that as well as the other things I’ve earned or been awarded on 2 walls. When I was younger it was a self-encouragement thing (woman in engineering, and imposter syndrome used to hit a lot more often than it does now). If you don’t care, don’t bother - but if you do, no harm in being proud of it.
MSB218@reddit
No; I have BA and master's diplomas in boxes somewhere; I know the BA is framed, but I think the other one is just rolled up. I have a tendency to not display stuff like that because I'm not in my 'forever home' (as my wife calls it), but we're planning to move in the next couple of years and I want to change that mindset; I've acquired a ton of nice things over the years (paintings, antiques, family photos, etc.) and I need to enjoy them more.
Familiar-Seat-1690@reddit
Not typical where I live. Mine are in a paper towel tube in my safe.
NegScenePts@reddit
No. I have no idea where it is.
Epicassion@reddit
I have mine stashed away, somewhere. Didn’t really care as it’s just a piece of paper. The knowledge gained to work in my position is what’s important.
Sweet_Passenger_6869@reddit
Ya it’s been moved to a file folder….. sadly. We should hang them and be proud!
