An announcement was made today involving plans to build a walkway connecting all concourses. Currently, only the A gates can be directly accessed without a train.

"Currently, only the A gates can be directly accessed without a train."
Bro, >!A-Train is dead.!< Actually I guess that might why they're building the new walkway.
Gastroid@reddit
Have they asked the lizard people how they feel about that?
Fitch9392@reddit
I feel like they would be for this, as it will allow them to get from their underground lair’s to their respective gates quicker.
shit-shit-shit-shit-@reddit
However, they won’t get to listen to this banger
Kongbuck@reddit
YOU are delaying the departure of this train!
Ryan1869@reddit
Maybe they can come out a bit more, there really nice
daface@reddit
I suspect this will never be utilized to the level that will feel worth it - it'll be a LONG walk out there (probably 20-30 minutes from terminal to concourse C), and the issue with the trains is wildly overblown.
But there's no question that the trains are a PR mess. It's probably worth it to the airport to at least be able to say they did what everyone has been asking for.

There's always moving walkways.
daface@reddit
It's possible, but it doesn't seem like $300-$700 million would cover over two miles of moving walkways (one each direction). My guess is they're basically just putting up walls and running electrical to turn it into a secured area.
imapilotaz@reddit
Um. What?
At industry average $5,000 a foot, that $300m is... checks math...60,000 linear feet... both directions is 30,000 ft... or a tad under 6 miles.
Its 1 mile from headhouse to C... so yeah it definitely would cover it.
daface@reddit
Maybe I'm wrong. It's just that they previously have said the tunnels weren't an option because it would cost over a billion to build it, so I'm having trouble figuring out how they're suddenly doing it for half that unless they're making it extremely basic.
warrenslo@reddit
They not building new tunnels. They are using the old automated bag system tunnels. They should just put people on the old automated baggage carts!
Ziegler517@reddit
A long walk before or after a flight isn’t a bad thing.
NyxAither@reddit
At this point it seems like that money may be better spent just improving the train.
abstract_concept@reddit
Maybe the solution is mobile lounges.
faster_tomcat@reddit
I like you, you're pretty funny!
Not that it couldn't work...
f0urtyfive@reddit
How many 10s of millions are people willing to pay for a walkway? I'd bet it'd be about as expensive as replacing the trams, probably ~$100M, since planes need to be able to pass UNDER all the walkways.
asphaltaddict33@reddit
Someone has never been to ATL I see
midsprat123@reddit
The walkways are underground
polyploid_coded@reddit
Good... I was just past security when the train was wonky and there were tons of people waiting to go onto their terminals. It sounds insignificant, but you have a bunch of escalators streaming people into that station and no visible exits. Someone told me that they made a call to security upstairs to stop people until it got figured out.
cincinn_audi@reddit (OP)
I'll have to keep an eye out for the emergency stop button on the escalator next time I'm there. For all I know, I might have to be the one to press it if something happens like you're describing and I'm right there.

Are we sure the Free Masons and Bigfoot are cool with this?
TheOriginalJBones@reddit
If you’re hearing about it, the Freemasons are down with it. I’ve got nothing but respect for the way those guys have been running everything in the world the past few years.
Remote-Letterhead844@reddit
Someone should probably inform the Etsy witches.....
Admirable_Site_8337@reddit
So the lizard people have finally given their consent…..cool.
