Basically, this subreddit is for people to push their vibecoded communities?

I was honestly looking for well established and vetted alternatives.

Tbh any reddit alternatives you find on reddit will just be filled with redditors anyway. You're going to have to go dig around the web to find your place or create your own

Is this accessible for a noob (me) to create a simple forum, very minimalistic and "private" to protect it from data collection/bots/slops etc ?
View on Reddit #86994908

The-Chartreuse-Moose@reddit

Yep there are plenty of PHP forum packages you can host. Set them to private and use Captchas, or vet requests yourself. This doesn't scale very well though, and if you set one up then it'll just be for you and any friends you can persuade to join.

I don't mind redditors, I am trying to escape the dead Internet, LLMs, bots and nefarious techbros.

Then best of luck to you but you're probably better off engaging with your irl community if that's what you're looking for

Eh, kinda hopeful we can have a platform come out that's reddit-like but with reasonable/forward-thinking bot prevention and privacy protections for users.
View on Reddit #86994535

Puzzled_Mention5855@reddit

best of luck then. That's just not what the internet is anymore.

Agree that's not today's reality, but it was at one point. Could be doable, just requires tradeoffs most people aren't willing to make today.

I'm on Reddit since... well I don't care. I don't consider myself a redditor.

I didn't mean it was ridiculous but that not everyone using this forum contibute to the mess or has an "attitude". Like a lot of users who hesitate to leave, I still witness, in the middle of the chaos, great interactions and diversity.

Reddit is deader than dead. There's been a noticeable decrease in "quality" and it's a massive stretch to even use that term. Remember the days when if you didn't check the front page in the last hour you missed something? Now it takes at least 24h for anything to drop off and of you missed it, no worries, at least a dozen other subs will have it cross posted. Comments have gone from engaging and conversational to each "person" saying the same thing with a few different combinations of words. Legit, how many fucking subs needs to have the word 'interesting' in them?! I'm mad at myself for still being here. As sad as it is, absolutely nothing better has come along and I think the glory days of the Internet I knew are dead.
View on Reddit #87048423

The-Chartreuse-Moose@reddit

Same here. Reddit is drowning in AI slop. I yearn for actual interactions with humans. And yet I find myself coming back to Reddit because no other site has the same scale and range of interests represented.
View on Reddit #87362073

whyyoutube@reddit

They don't exist, mainly because of community inertia. No reddit alternative can amass a userbase big enough to make it "well-established" or "vetted". The ones that come closest are in the sub's banner, and they either are way too small/obscure, are created and run by weirdos and assholes (see lemmy), or both.
View on Reddit #86985026

VladimiroPudding@reddit (OP)

Oh, Lemmy is inhabited by assholes? Genuine question, I was pondering joining it.
View on Reddit #86987380

topselection@reddit

I think of them less as assholes and more as complete fucking lunatics who are going to end up in a federal prison if they don't chill out. I subscribe to as many non-political instances as I can. You can't avoid the full blown communists dreaming about the blood of billionaires in the streets, but some places like Technology have normal human beings. Lemmy is pretty nice. It has a filter for Subscribed, Local, and All and you can go to settings it make it more like old Reddit. The style is a cross between and old school forum and Reddit.
View on Reddit #87026881

klevahh@reddit

One persons "normal" is another persons trash.

View on Reddit #87027272

ragtagangel@reddit

Not their blood, just their power. On the streets. Oh wait... Was the real power in our hands since the begining ?
View on Reddit #87137528

whyyoutube@reddit

The main instance is filled with tankies, which includes the creator of lemmy. Although you can block them due to the nature of the fediverse, using lemmy still means you're associated with them in some sense. And who knows, maybe they'll update lemmy so it's impossible to block the main instance. Is that a slippery slope? Sure. Do I care and would rather not risk creating an account with them? Also yes.
View on Reddit #86997638

Die4Ever@reddit

> maybe they'll update lemmy so it's impossible to block the main instance That's not possible because it's open source. It would be forked off the last good version. Also they have no control over PieFed or Mbin, they would also be unaffected by such a code change.

pinkprius@reddit

Lemmy is legit good but a problem with that is that people switch there and then won't be able to hang out here to tell everyone
View on Reddit #86999023

Die4Ever@reddit

Lemmy is good. There are many good servers for it like https://lemmy.zip/
View on Reddit #86989194

HedgeRunner@reddit

Pretty much. Personally, I think maybe I saw 1 or half a project that's considered not vibe coded. Most of these probably won't scale at all, like they'll be fine with 500 users.
View on Reddit #87045644

ragtagangel@reddit

Could you name them ?
View on Reddit #87137882

HedgeRunner@reddit

Can't remember lol, I didn't follow them that closely. But OP is definitely on point.
View on Reddit #87215045

ragtagangel@reddit

View on Reddit #87136926

SmileyBMM@reddit

Yes, mainly because the only sites that are legitimate threats to Reddit have been shadow banned, leaving only the slop.
View on Reddit #87003877

ragtagangel@reddit

Do you recall what are those sites ? Human memory could be so precious in these times.
View on Reddit #87136804

SmileyBMM@reddit

I cannot list them here, Reddit automatically filters out comments that contain their names. If you check one of the pinned posts on this subreddit and see the option without a link, that's one example of a site that Reddit bans all mention of.

> well-established and vetted communities You've already heard of every one of them in existence.  - Digg - Fediverse/Lemmy - That's all. There's no reason to join this sub *unless* you want to be informed if Lemmy finally takes off and becomes useable, or you want to hear about people's vibe coded side projects.

Sounds like you might appreciate the fediverse: Check out Mbin, PieFed, or Lemmy for a forum-like experience.

How long has it been since the API lockdown? The only viably large alternative that has come out is the Fediverse/Threadiverse. Lemmy, Piefed, and Mbin, which are largely the same and mutually compatible. I tried switching back then but obviously didn't stick around. With Reddit ditching All and (I swear I'm not crazy on this, everyone has noticed this right?) a huge influx of bots and LLM posts over the last two months, I tried switching back recently and it's genuinely gotten a lot better. Compared to a few years ago, it's more stable, has more features, has more active communities (admittedly biased more towards tech or political content than other interests), has actively-developed and highly customizable third-party apps, etc. I think we're at the point where the Fediverse's improvements and (mostly) Reddit's increased enshittification has made it genuinely the Fediverse the better user experience for a lot of people. Nothing compares to the userbase of Reddit, but the Fediverse is a distant second and there is no distant third.

Mondai_May@reddit

Yes so many subreddits I am in have either: 1. T shirt scam bot 2. Repost bot (and many of the comments are also reposts, copied from the original post) 3. "I got tired of ___ so I made an app!" (AI 'coded')

It's a strange one. I kind of get that young kids who are into vibe coding think it's totally fine to completely sell out in this way, but will they ever progress to being mature adults with the current state of things? And also surely Reid it doesn't want to certify themselves to within an inch of their own life?
View on Reddit #87006117

VladimiroPudding@reddit (OP)

Reddit is the prime example of Dead Internet Theory. More than half of content here is either astroturfing, bot activity to extract organic data points, or rage profiles acting for an agenda. Until some months ago at least the niche subreddits were somewhat safe. Now I am seeing LLM activity and bot activity even in these random places. Hence why I wanted to quit so bad. I am up to switch to a place with a way lower activity, knowing the critical mass is here still and all that, but with _some_ activity. I would love to go back to 2000s era of boards, for instance.

soratoyuki@reddit

I'm in a lot of self-hosted subreddits, and vibecoded projects are overwhelming a lot of them. I saw in a post here a few weeks ago that Piefed has introduced a feature to automatically flag or hide AI/LLM content, and I made an account immediatly. Admittedly, the community isn't big enough to be worried about bots yet. Consider [piefed.social](https://join.piefed.social/features/). All three options are basically the same, but Piefed supports feeds (like multireddits) and community wikis. If you don't like the idea of defederation (instances blocking other instances for hosting objectionable content), piefed.zip defederates much less.
