How do I turn this AC back to “cool”?

This is so dumb and I am so embarrassed. I have completely forgotten how to turn my AC back from Hot to Cool. In my defense, it’s my boyfriend’s boat, and I came out here early to clean it up after our long delivery.
It’s a Beneteau 40.7, but more importantly the Rotary Aire Westerbeke. I can’t figure out which combination of buttons makes the cool air turn on.
Dog tax included.

Don’t be embarrassed at all — marine AC controls are notoriously unintuitive, especially the older Westerbeke/Rotary Aire systems. Half of them feel like a 1997 microwave designed by sailors. Your system is almost certainly a reverse-cycle heat pump, meaning there usually is not a separate “heater” and “AC” switch — you toggle the operating mode on the thermostat/control panel. westerbeke.com +1 Here’s the usual sequence on Rotary Aire controls: Turn the system ON Look for a button labeled: MODE COOL/HEAT or sometimes just a snowflake/sun icon Press MODE repeatedly until you see: ❄️ COOL or just “COOL” Lower the set temperature several degrees below cabin temp. Wait about 30–90 seconds. These systems intentionally delay compressor startup to protect the unit. pdf.directindustry.com +1 A couple important clues: If the fan runs but the air is warm, it’s probably still in HEAT mode. If nothing happens immediately after switching modes, that’s normal. You should eventually hear: the seawater pump, then the compressor kick in, then cool air. On many older Rotary Aire panels: Up/down arrows change temp only MODE cycles: Cool Heat Auto Dehumidify/Fan If yours is the really old-school rotary-knob version: One knob = temperature One knob = fan speed One rotary selector = OFF / FAN / COOL / HEAT Yachtaid Marine And one very boat-specific gotcha: If the seawater pump breaker got switched off during cleaning, the unit may refuse to cool. Check for an “A/C Pump” breaker on the electrical panel if you don’t hear water moving. You are very much not the first person to stand in a cabin angrily pressing random buttons while muttering “why is it still hot.”
Copy paste from the stupid robot. Maybe helps though

There’s no mode button. Turn off the ai and turn in your brain.

Okay — this panel actually makes it much easier. You’re very close. Right now: the HEAT light is on the display says 65 the FAN light is also on On this Rotary Aire panel, there’s no dedicated MODE button. The trick is: To switch from HEAT to COOL Press and HOLD the FAN button for a few seconds. Watch the indicator lights. It should toggle between: HEAT COOL sometimes FAN-only When the COOL light comes on: 4. Use the ▲ / ▼ arrows to set the temp LOWER than cabin temp (try 60–65). 5. Wait about a minute for the compressor delay. You should then hear: water pump, compressor hum, cooler air. If holding FAN doesn’t do it: try pressing FAN repeatedly instead of holding. Some of these panels cycle modes with short presses. Also: if the COOL light comes on but air is still warm after a minute or two, check whether the seawater pump breaker is on. And honestly? This exact panel has trapped many intelligent adults in tiny sweaty cabins before you.
More from robot and your picture. He keeps talking to much

If the robot is stupid, why are you keep repeating what it says?

Stop posting wrong AI slop

That does not apply to OP's panel.

looks like it happens on its own.

In that case, I wonder if the thermostat is malfunctioning and reading the wrong temperature, causing it to heat because it’s reading the ambient temperature way below what OP had set.
whosaidmoney@reddit (OP)
I think something is malfunctioning with the temp too if it really is supposed to switch automatically. It was about 75 degrees yesterday. It was making a slightly funky sound, just different than it used to be last season, so I just shut it off.
I’m more concerned with keeping it cool because I need to leave a puppy in here for a 2 hours this afternoon. Probably will start trying to keep the whole thing cool all day with my curtains.

Get it a pack of smokes and a leather jacket

Try long pressing the buttons. Sometimes embedded developers who program these systems tend to hide somethings

Pretty sure it's supposed to choose the correct one on its own based on whether the set temperature is higher or lower than the measured temperature. The manual doesn't mention any way to change it anywhere.
MissingGravitas@reddit
Agree, that’s my take too.
Capacolla@reddit
Take three!
Raneynickelfire@reddit
Turn it down to the temp you want.
whosaidmoney@reddit (OP)
I’ve tried pushing the buttons in different ways too. So far, I’ve only managed to turn the fan to different speeds and turn the fan off.
