Trip to the Middle East

Flew in and spent 16 days with a 4x4 and our ground tents. We slept in ground tents and ate cheaply or cooked our own food on camping stoves.
Just wanted to share that you do not need to own a big truck and have a giant budget to do fun stuff like this. Of course, we had the rental in some risky situations at some points, but we were always careful. No visible damages made to the car :)
Total cost (with flights and rental) per. person about 1300 Euro (1500 USD).
All photos are mine, and you can see more photos and trips on my instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mariuskphoto/
We ended up experiencing a CRAZY amount of stuff in such a small time frame. For example: Big wedding, dromedary racing, dune racing, snorkling and lots of beatiful hikes. We also drove 5500 Km, woke up at 6 in the morning and only stopped when the sun went down, so we did ours to see stuff.
If I could, I would upload 100 photos, but there is a limit :(

I did a 4x4 trip in Oman last year. It honestly top tier so many varying landscapes. The absolute kick is you can drive literally anywhere. As a self contained 4x4 trip it's probably one of the best!

The wild camping is also very nice!

It's cheap to do 4*4 and overlanding in GCC(Oman, Saudi, and other small gulf countries). Zoman, and Saudi offers the best spots because they have vast areas with amazing terrains.
Gas is 0.58-0.70 for 91 octane. There's service likely every 400km or less. No conflicts or internal war, safest when it comes to cimes in general. Most of the local habitants are themselves travellers, and they respect those who do stuff like above.
I have done , 3k, 5k, 9k trips. No hotels. Just tents, and fuel station for freshening up. None kf my trips cost more than 500USD per person including fuel. I am a resident of Saudi.

Nice, it is really nice and cheap. And you meet a lot of friendly people when traveling like this!

Thanks, and yes it was very value for money :D

How do you go there and not be terrified every second of violence etc
Marius_dragon_slayer@reddit (OP)
It was a very safe country :) Except maybe when we went just on the border with Yemen, but other than that it was safe! Except we actually had some pretty crazy drivers when we were far out in the desert. One time, we had a guy drive on the wrong side of the highway, which was pretty scary.

OP chose a missleading title, he just went to Oman and picked up a rental at the airport...Oman is the safest country in the world, they dont have enemies nor crime inside the country.

Don’t believe everything on the news.. There are tons of nice places that are super peaceful and safe. OP photos look like Oman which is very safe and has beautiful mountains and nice people. UAE is worth a trip as well - there is more to it than glitz and glamour. There are good overlanding communities in the region as well - they love cars and camping.

Pajeros are the best, love my gen 3. Looks like a great trip

This looks scenic! Can you drop some pins / locations?
Tribalecho@reddit
this is just Oman, a very touristy gulf country, not really middle east...
GgPVP420@reddit
So Mexico i snot really north America. Or what exactly do you mean? Can’t really argue a fact.
Tribalecho@reddit
first of all, middle east is a anglo/european term from their geopgraphic standpoint. Oman is part of a region called the GCC, OP made it sound like he went to Iraq, Lebanon or anything cool and badass. Oman is the safest country on the planet.
GgPVP420@reddit
Your are on a western media, in a western sub. GCC is just more specific, like saying Western Europe… OP just did not share the location, literally nothing in the description make it sound like he went to Iraq… Some people just have to be jealous
Tribalecho@reddit
It's called clickbait and it worked: One of the comments here reads: "How do you go there and not be terrified every second of violence etc"
The middle east are many exciting regions and countries, OP just went to Oman in a rental...again, this is the safest country I have ever been, so no, not jealous.
GgPVP420@reddit
That is just one person who thinks every country in the Middle East is unsafe. Does not make the title clickbait, that one person in the comments does not know the region well. But how about you just share your own trips instead of bashing other people for not sharing the exact location details. Usually you do this to protect places from over tourism.

why are you commenting with an alt account?

Brother I’m just commenting from my phone… 🫠

Unreal! This is what overlanding is all about!
