I'm currently looking to replace my 2007 Chevy Equinox (155k), but I don't know what is good or what to look for in used cars. My budget is pretty low (roughly $10-12k and ideally under or near 100k mileage), so my selection will be limited. My biggest priority is backseat space for 2 giant breed senior dogs (125lbs each - a newfie and a pyr) and low enough for them to get in and out with comfort. Other than that I'm pretty open. I know I'm going to end up in a SUV, minivan, maybe a wagon or hatchback, due to that need.

What makes/models are worth looking at?

Which ones should I avoid?

And what are the common problems/and mileage those issues usually pop up?
