No GenX Prezzies

There will never be a GenX president and I feel some kind of way about it. Isn't that something? We've never had our collective interests broadly recognized at the national level and I think it shows.
Congress is still filled with both Silent and Boomer gens, who just won't get out of the way.
Millennials and Zs will have the conch. Here's hoping they know what to do with it.

Well. DeSantis is GenX so….maybe we dodged a bullet?

I think it's unlikely, but you never know. I'd like to see a female president in my lifetime, but that seems even more unlikely.
ONROSREPUS@reddit
I would too. If a good qualified one would run.
beaushaw@reddit
Two have ran who were immensely more qualified than the person they ran against.
ONROSREPUS@reddit
I disagree. I feel that Hillary was/is just as bad as anyone elected since 2018.

I'm with you on wanting to see a female president. I think it's more likely than you may think. We've been around long enough to see and learn from our education that the pendulum swings both ways. At some point (I think within our lifetime) the pendulum will swing back. I am hopeful.

Late boomer. Boomers were born 1946-1964, he was born in 1961

Technically a Boomer, but more specifically Generation Jones—a transitional micro-generation of people born between 1954 and 1965 who straddle the end of the Boomers and the start of Generation X, at least if Wikipedia is to be trusted

I'll still die on the hill that Barack Obama is GenX.
Sociologists moved the goalposts literally before he ran for President (likely not because of him though). GenX was 1961-1981 up until about 2008. Now it's 1965-1980.
On top of every other disrespect they give us, we lost six years worth of GenXers!

I’m a bit miffed we lack representation. Now, GenX will be at the mercy of Millennials and GenZ during our retirement age.
We should have given more of a shit.
mr_mxyzptlk21@reddit
The kids are alright. As long as we don't become "Boomers Lite", we won't earn their ire.
Looking at you older GenXers and Generation Jones that gave into fear...
PeptoBismark@reddit
We’re just going to slide into being young boomers and old millennials.
ShookMyHeadAndSmiled@reddit
I'll take them over boomers
music-fan-2025@reddit
I would take them over boomers but for.a lot of.younger generations, X is same as boomers!
OliveBadger1037@reddit
Well, not quite. There are a lot of Gen X politicians out there. Nonetheless, I work with a lot of Millennials and Gen Z people, and honestly, I have no problem skipping our generation and handing the torch to them. The kids are alright.
Chemical_Author7880@reddit
The years of GenX usually quoted are based on the demographic pig-in-the-python birth rates.
Traditional generational theory is 20 year cohorts, and shared cultural event impacts.
Stauss and Howe, and other academics, place GenX as 1961-1980, the 13th American generation or Gen13.
Obama is ours.
Generation Jones is actually early GenX. I will die on this hill.
guitarsean@reddit
Gotta wait until one of us turns at least 75. That's how it works in "Murica.
I'm cool with handing the whole thing over to Gen Z now, they'll do better than any of the gerontocracy.
jrobski96@reddit
People born in the 60's, often act like boomers.
YouDear9720@reddit
It'll happen but then prezzy Gen X will be labeled a boomer anyway as we are now becoming the old people

Neat_Point1061@reddit

hankenator1@reddit
Gem jones is just a term for the younger side of the boomer generation just like xennials. Still technically born in the baby boomer generation.
The term gen jones wasn’t even coined until 1999.
AaronTheElite007@reddit
He is a late boomer (aka Gen Jones)
raisinghellions@reddit
He was born in 61. A little early.
Dogzillas_Mom@reddit
I am absolutely furious at anyone over 70 who is still working. It’s not fair. Retire already. You aren’t contributing or building, you are taking. Grabbing as much as you can for yourself.
YouDear9720@reddit
Some of these folks can't afford to retire.
Longjumping-Goose3@reddit
I hear and acknowledge your anger. There are many older citizens holding into control without considering the cost.
While I agree that some elders need to step aside in politics, some are valuable contributors to society. This, like most anything, would be need to be decided on a case by case basis.
If you mean in general those older than 70 need to retire, I know many who cannot afford to retire and need to work to survive.
damnfoolbumpkin@reddit
This is such a weird take. Are you working? Why don't you quit YOUR job and open up a slot for a Gen Z? Such audacity to think that people should make their life decisions based on your opinion.
ItsRedditThyme@reddit
I'm raising my gen Z kids to believe that voting is a responsibility, because the number of people who can vote, but don't, is unconscionable. It's a large contributing factor to why things are so bad.
ilikecats415@reddit
We sit down as a family and discuss every single candidate as we fill out our ballots. Judges on the ballot? Let's look up their records. Local utilities commissioner? Look 'em up. My kids haven't missed an election yet and understand how important the local elections are in addition to the statewide and nationals. We need young people to vote.
viking12344@reddit
Yeah, you mean because they don't vote like you. You think when more people vote, like you vote, things will get better?

Gen X starts in 65, he was born in 61 - but yeah he’s much more Gen X in the greater pop culture sense.

SavoirFaire2Middling@reddit
Newsom, if elected, would be a GenX president.
Harris, too, by this sub's definition, along with Shapiro, Rubio, Mark Kelly . . . .
TacoDeliDonaSauce@reddit
Harris for all intents and purposes is Gen X, but on a literal basis she is like six months from the cutoff iirc.
JuJu_Wirehead@reddit
Let's be honest, nothing would get done.
DOD Secretary: Sir! XYZ is making nuclear weapons!
President: Yeah, okay, whatever.
Pristine_Frame_2066@reddit
I feel like genx got deep into local and state politics. They do things small and have impacts.
I think our generation cared once we made it past age 30. Once we got over the mind blow
ranchoparksteve@reddit
Actually, I believe the next president will almost certainly be GenX. The most competitive candidates are GenX governors.
Roland-Of-Eld-19@reddit
Our last two prime ministers were Gen X and they were both kinda garbage 🇨🇦
ONROSREPUS@reddit
I am fine with them skipping our generation. I do wish we could change out all the people that are over 65 though. Also in before the lock.
disastrous_affect163@reddit
I agree👍 our politicians are to old and out of touch to be effective.
Honest-Layer9318@reddit
Same here. I could care less about our generation being skipped. I want young people in there who have a real stake in the future not a bunch of olds at the end of their lives who won’t have to face the consequences of their actions.
AZPeakBagger@reddit
Same thing happened at work. Our CEO’s for the past dozen years went Boomer, Boomer and then straight to a Millennial who isn’t even 40 yet.
state_your_name31415@reddit
I'm not plugging for them but Josh Shapiro, Cory Booker, and Gavin Newsome are all Gen X
Ithiaca@reddit

wallnumber8675309@reddit

Unhappy_Permit2571@reddit
Way too early to say never. But I think we can all agree that we need less Prezzies born in 1946
uncirculated_luster@reddit
Our time is coming... we have to get a bit older and more fed up, and then we will step in and fix everything... probably in a few weeks or months, because then it will get old and we will want a new task. I recently read this book called "the fourth turning" essentially talking about how the generational cycles have been working in the past... the book clearly puts us on deck for fixing all the stuff that is about to break. in the author's narrative, we are the "managers"
NatashaMuse@reddit
It's funny how it dovetails with the whole "forgotten generation" thing. But we still have time! Even if Millennials get there's first, we still might get one of us elected down the line
Ilfor@reddit
Not sure America could handle a Gen X President.
Playful-Park4095@reddit
The youngest Gen X is in their mid 40s. It's a little premature to decide one of us slackers is never going to get in.
That said, I also feel a certain way about it: Whatever.
