Marijuana Truckers exist?

(Not a trucker btw) I was under the impression that CDL’s mean ZERO tolerance for marijuana no matter what. Random drug tests and such to keep people in line with this rule. Well anyways I was visiting a legal cannabis dispensary in California and the person ordering next to me was a Pepsi driver with his hat and uniform on. I was shocked, it was like seeing a police officer secretly being a pothead haha 😂 so what’s the deal with this? is it taboo or not a big deal in the CDL world? Do some people just get lucky with who they work with?
(Not advocating anything or saying people should drive under the influence)

Some drivers risk it all by falsifying UA's. It's incredibly stupid because if you do it wrong and fail you're basically out of the industry unless you're willing to take a huge paycut and work a lot harder because that shit follows you for life on the clearinghouse, and on top of that it's illegal and can range from being a pretty serious misdemeanor up to a felony if you get caught falsifying a DOT piss test.
Some drivers deliver to dispensaries and there's other shit you can buy in a lot of dispensaries that isn't cannabis. He might have just been buying a coke to chug in the store because he'll get fired if he drinks it in the truck.

It’s not for life. It comes off your record after 2 years if you finish the sap and 5 years if you do nothing.

Yeah. And when your new job calls your old one to ask about you and they say they fired you for pissing hot it doesn't matter what's on your clearinghouse. So you either omit your experience at that job, which will likely get your application denied, or you hope whoever you're trying to get hired on with doesn't give a shit you had a SAP and completed RTD.
Pissing hot follows you for life in this industry. Sure you can get a job afterwards, but it makes it a lot harder to get the good ones and impossible in some cases even if it's not on your clearinghouse. It's just easier to tell people it'll follow you forever just like it's easier to tell people it's illegal to bring a gun on the truck while OTR even if neither is technically true.

Just like it was easier to tell kids that all drugs are bad and will ruin your life back in the 90’s. That way when they realize you were full of shit, they won’t care about anything else you preached

Man I wish. Whenever I drive through the legit states like Colorado, Michigan..I get so tempted to smoke a blunt. It’s just not worth risking your career. I wouldn’t mind if it just risked this one job after a random..but to fuck up all future jobs is too much

Just wait til your in Ontario Oregon, stopping at the loves for the night and see the burnt river farms dispensary sitting basically on the same lot

I know the feeling. I was at the TA in commerce city, co with the dispo steps away. Had to hold myself back from just walking in to window shop

There was one in California like that, had a dispensary across the road but sure enough there were almost always a couple of cops lingering near by. You know there just itching to talk to any truckers who make the journey that way.

I know a few drivers that microdose on their Friday and even if they get pulled in Monday morning, they pass.

Ngl I smell it a lot at truck stops nowadays. Idk what it is but people seem to be okay with gambling their careers over it. There's a time and place for it and this isnt the career for that. Do that shit on vacation and come back clean. I like bud as much as the next person but I hate smelling it at the truck stops. Ive woken up to my whole truck smelling like it. My windows are closed and everything, guess it seeps through the air conditioner vents or something.

Well, let's be real. If people gonna smoke, they gonna smoke. I used to be one of em. On the same hand, Ive been driving almost 2 years and I have only been random tested once, and it was about 2 months after I got hired on
GiantEnemaCrab@reddit
I work for Pepsi, we actually deliver to dispensaries. Was he not delivering, and waiting for a check / printing an invoice? It would be pretty stupid for him to buy while still in uniform.
Most drivers don't smoke because if you get caught you are genuinely fucked, not just out of your current job but any future jobs. On the bright side I can chug vodka until my liver bleeds I guess.

Oooooh that makes sense!

Thank you for posting in /r/Truckers, most questions can be found consulting our wiki. if you're asking about Medical or drug restrictions. New Drug testing rules go through the ClearingHouse where any failure gets reported. Hair follicle testing tends to go back 6 months with the truck companies that use it. FMCSA’s Hutcheson tells senators she wants to close ‘loopholes’ in trucker drug testing Companies that do use hair testing (nearly all of the training companies) have been pushing for it to be the standard.
