Dude, I’m not going to lie, I’ve been driving for 2 years, I have a restriction on my license. Manuals are being phased out, mom and pop shops may still use them, heavy haul, etc. but if you want to get into fuel, LTL, food/beverage, most other companies, it honestly won’t effect you.
I’m not saying getting it is bad, I’m saying having the restriction isn’t end all be all.

Wait until your second day when they teach algebra.

I got mine with no restrictions. First harvest season I drove hopper for a farmer, 10 speed. First real job was TMC(an auto fleet). Couple months in they say they have some manuals from specialized hitting the linehaul fleet. Thank god I got no restrictions, the trucks longer with bigger boxes, and 3.55s and a 13 instead of the linehaul 2.98 and Eaton endurant. Backing up is so much easier with the manual

Backing is night and day easier

I don't know what "cooked" means, but yeah, learn manual. Even if you don't end up using it, it is way harder to get an auto restriction off your license, and sometimes knowing manual can really come in handy. Plus you'll understand how your truck shifts way better.

I learned manual knowing I was getting a job that only used automatics.
If the options there I don’t see why you wouldn’t take it. One less restriction is only ever beneficial.

Go for it. If you are paying for it you should get the license you want. I went through Wilson Logistics 1 year contract program. I originally had an manual restriction. When I changed state license the restriction did not carry over. 🙊 Wish I had the option to learn manual in my CDL training.
