RTX 5070 TI or RX 7900 XT for the next 10 years?

I will build a new PC from scratch and I want this PC to last for the next decade. I want to play AAA games on 2K or 4K settings. RX 7900 XT is 350$ cheaper in where I live. I don’t care about ray tracing, I think it’s a good quality but not something extraordinary. Which of these GPU suffice my needs?
MadFonzi@reddit
I don't think either of these cards will let you play 4k for the next decade tbh, but if your options are between these two cards then I would go with the 5070ti.
canbozan@reddit (OP)
What I meant for 10 years is a PC that will allow me to play today’s games at 4K but at 1080p for 10 years later game or something like that.
MoWePhoto@reddit
Thank you for the clearance. That should be doable with the 5070ti and to a lesser extent with 7900XT.
In today’s market, I would personally skip the future proofing of the 5070ti and save money on the 7900XT to be used for an upgrade five years down the line for example..
MoWePhoto@reddit
I would second this! AAA at max settings in 4K 10 years in the future will be impossible most likely for any card sold today. Even today, neither the 5070ti, nor the 7900XT are 4K ultra cards!
1600p/1440p for the next two years maybe and at last then, you will most likely reduce settings!
Wonderful_Trick_4251@reddit
Surely it depends on the OPs FPS target. I can get 450 FPS with my 5070ti in some games using framegen. I cap it at 155. So my games are running max graphics with framegen and my GPU is only utilised at 60-70%.
It has plenty of space for improved furure games under those conditions. I'm not chasing mad FPS.
silentstealth1@reddit
It’ll last a lot longer than 2 years
Iam_just-me2@reddit
Contando la 2070 super, direi 4 anni Max. 1440p, altri 2-3 medie, gli altri 3 bassissime/1080p medie

9070xt??
Cheap and munch most games currently
ggRavingGamer@reddit
That's if any DIY cards even come out during the next decade.
RandomStranger73@reddit
10 years is a long time for tech
xJustOni@reddit
I wouldn't get the 7900 XT unless you plan on running something that needs tons of VRAM, the 9070 XT is non-debebatably a better choice with FSR4 and slightly better performance.
George_Mallory@reddit
I got a 7900XT because I can’t stand Nvidia’s ideology and market manipulations. It’s a pretty good card. I wish I could have gotten a 9070XT. They are 10% faster and have better ray-tracing, which could be important, in the future. I don’t think I’ve ever used all 20GB of VRAM on the 7900XT before the processor maxes out, even with heavily modded Skyrim.
I want my computer to last at least 7 years, but I don’t intend on having the same graphics card for that duration. GPUs are easy to upgrade, even if they are the most expensive individual part.
PermissionJaded5510@reddit
next 10 years? do you know how long that is in the pc world ? by the time 10 years pass you will upgrade your card twice already from the ones you mentioned in the title.
(UNLESS you plan on buying the 5070ti for 1080p lol, that would be a fun challenge)
Zarathustra_d@reddit
In 10 years we will be paying for cloud compute to run LLM based "AI" npc scripts and like it.
5 tokens for a simulation of friendship from your sidekick, 10 if you want to reconcile with the big boss in the alternate ending.
LiliaBlossom@reddit
There are barely any cards that had this long of a relevance, the closest must have been the 1080 Ti, due to the oversized VRAM - I can see the 5090 lasting long if the connector doesn’t fry but its a different priceclass than the 1080 Ti was back then. I retired the 1080 Ti this year after 8 years. I would go with the 9070XT for your budget. The 7900 XTX is interesting, I kinda wanted it bcs VRAM, but the featureset is a lot worse than that of the 9070 XT and the 5070 Ti. Imo, 5070 Ti if there’s less than 100€/$ difference to a 9070 XT, otherwise 9070 XT.
TioHerman@reddit
My old pc survived from 2013 to 2024, changing only the r9 280x to an gtx 1060, everything here is insanely expensive, so its the bare MINIMUM to expect it to last.
jbshell@reddit
How much 9070 XT?
canbozan@reddit (OP)
1100$
jbshell@reddit
Dang was hoping for savings. What about RX 9070 non XT?
prank_mark@reddit
And how much are the other two?
canbozan@reddit (OP)
RX 7900 XT is also 1100$, RTX 5070 TI is 1450$.
prank_mark@reddit
Then Id definitely get the 9070 XT
Tree_Dude@reddit
You’re looking for the 1080 of GPUs today. I love AMD, but in this case I’d go 5070ti. While you may not care about RT, the AAA games coming out in the next few years are going to ONLY have RT. So best get a card that can handle it.
Is a 9070xt not an option? As that would be my overall pick as it can handle RT well enough and has better Linux support with is key for me.
bloke_pusher@reddit
My 5070ti is just good enough for WQHD not even 4k. Sure I have higher expectations, but there's no card good for 4k for 10 years, not even a 5090. Mine will be good for 5 - 6 years but then I will likely need to upgrade unless I want to play on medium-low with low fps. Sure DLSS framegeneration helps a lot to stretch that further, but you still need decent base fps to make this fun to play.
Gutter_Flies@reddit
10 years ago, the titan X was a flagship for 4k. Today, it is good for 1080p and some 1440p. Choose whatever you want, but that is approximately the timeline you’re looking at for high end performance. Each same-tier card released at a given time will generally last approximately the same amount of time in terms of performance as long as it doesn’t die of old age first.
Trencycle@reddit
Get a 5090 if you want something that will last 10years.
canbozan@reddit (OP)
I would if I could
JohnLovesGaming@reddit
10 years? Nah. 5-7 can be done at 1440p. 7 is pretty generous, and will probably have to lower settings by a metric ton. 4K for 10 years is a pipe dream.
canbozan@reddit (OP)
I will downgrade my settings as the years go by, what I want to know is which of these cards can get me longer.
lazyhustlermusic@reddit
Why does it have to be 10 years
canbozan@reddit (OP)
Figurative speech, can work with 7-8 years as well. What I wanted to know was which of these GPU can last longer and open games for me even tho the settings downgrade over the years.
Dwarf-Eater@reddit
Go 5070ti, you'll be able to play 4k for a while then later on it'll be only a 1440p card, 10 years is a stretch for aaa games, those last few years it might end up being a 1080p card depending on the leap in graphics from now til then
canbozan@reddit (OP)
That’s what I meant by 10 years. I will downgrade my settings as the years go by essentially, since RX7900XT has 20GB VRAM I thought it can go longer than 5070TI.
Wokkawokka123@reddit
What about 5070ti or 7900xtx?
GARGEAN@reddit
Who gonna tell them?
Worker_Salty@reddit
Do you mean the 7900 XT 20gb or the 9070 XT? At the rate the PC market is going neither will be viable in 10 years
canbozan@reddit (OP)
7900XT. I know that I won’t be able to play games at 4K in 10 years time, what I meant was a PC that will get me by and will allow me to play most of the games in low settings 10 years later.
kemicalkontact@reddit
Not even the 1080 TI lasted a decade
LiliaBlossom@reddit
it came pretty close tho
Lucario-Mega@reddit
IMO… 9070XT.

SavedMartha@reddit
5070 Ti or 9070 XT
jaxikami@reddit
Long term wise 5070ti. Dlss has much better long term support by Nvidia. Who knows if amd will completely ditch rDNA once they release the udna structure. Also nvda card has a much better resale value which also helps make up for the price difference.
AwkwardLibrarian7585@reddit
I wouldn’t recommend 4k for either card. Its possible but its not great, and as the years go on it will only get worse. Depending on the prices you can find, you may as well go with the 7900xtx over the 7900xt if its still cheaper than a 5070ti. 5070ti is better in raw performance and will handle newer games for longer most likely. If you want performance: 5070ti. If you want value: 7900xt/7900xtx. Personally id go 5070ti, you’re probably not going to regret spending a bit extra when you think back to this in a few years
neverspeakawordagain@reddit
An important thing to keep in mind is that "I want this PC to last for the next decade playing AAA games" and "I don't care about ray tracing" are two irreconcilable thoughts. There are already games that require ray tracing (Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, for one), and within 5 years it's probably that most games will require ray tracing.
SauronOfRings@reddit
You may not care about ray tracing but developers do. Most newer games will need mandatory RT card to run. I’m pretty sure both GTA 6 and Witcher 4 will have mandatory RT. Better go with 5070 Ti or 9070 XT.
Also, 10 years is a lot. By that time even 5090 cant run most games. 5 years is a sane amount of time for hardware.
No_Entertainer_3052@reddit
Over the next 10 years ray tracing will be standard lighting in games so id uh rethink that line of thought
Id do a 5070ti but if $ is a factor then do the 9070xt
9okm@reddit
The 5070 ti has a much better chance of having driver support. So that's what I'd get.
Potential-Instance-1@reddit
Definetely 7900 XT, for 350 usd difference yeah, but, go see benchmark videos in youtube to see if it meets the fps u are expecting too
