Dog enrichment

My dog is pretty leash reactive after an attack at a dog park a year or so ago. I’d love to take him somewhere to explore/walk/hike without worrying so much about other dogs. Taking him to the dog park at the crack of dawn before others arrive only works about 50% of the time. Any ideas?

honestly sniffspot might be perfect for you. people rent out private yards/land by the hour and a lot of reactive dog owners use it specifically so their dogs can decompress safely

I hope you’re working with a positive reinforcement trainer to help your dog overcome this? Recovery is definitely possible, with cheese or hotdogs usually! Lol. You might also try the app sniff spot where I believe you can rent private places for your dog to run around off leash. If that’s too expensive maybe weekend trips to somewhere more rural?

I don’t have a ton of info to provide but tbh in addition to whatever info anyone can provide, the best thing to do long term is going to be working through his leash issues as well

He’s training! But he’s not good when high energy dogs sprint up to him.

Is he better OFF the leash when encountering other dogs? Or is it the same on or off?
I ask because my previous dog was a nightmare if he was on the leash and we encountered other dogs no matter if the other dogs were on leash or off.
But he was fine and had a great time if he wasn’t on the leash. The issue with him was leash=working and he felt like he had to defend me and himself if he was working. No leash = play time.
Idk if that helps but I thought I’d throw that out there.
Unfortunately anywhere you can go with your dog, other people will probably go with their dogs too. 😅
