It astonished me how much I watched Bill really practice what he preached as I grew up.

Alanna Ubach always gets my vote. Beakman all the way.

You just helped me learn the Asst. on Beakman’s World was also the angry waitress in Waiting was also the mother in the Ted tv series.
Crazy.
realoctopod@reddit
There was a total of 3 assistants.
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
Correct. Ubach was the first assistant.

I know that, I never claimed otherwise. Some people may not know.

Kind of a toss up between Mr Wizard and Bill Nye, I honestly disliked and found aspects of all of the shows annoying to the point where I could only watch them a little bit before I couldn't stand to watch anymore. The lessons and messages were great but all the annoying stuff they threw in to I guess keep kids entertained was just annoying to me.

I feel like both Cosmos and Nova are missing from this list.

Loved this show. Way more than Bill Nye.

Mr. Wizard and the Beakman. Bill Nye doesn't belong in the same question as them
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
Why exclude Nye?
JamesMattDillon@reddit
Never really liked him or his show
Hootinger@reddit
Who was the physics guy on PBS? Julius Sumner Miller or something?

Mr. Wizard was my first science teacher love! I still know how to cut a piece of paper so that I can fit through it and many other things. Then I really loved Bill Nye when I was in school however his more recent show on Netflix I found very offputting. Kind of tarnished his legacy.
I also enjoyed the learnings, though not the ensemble, of Slim Goodbody.
But it’s Mr. Wizard for the win!

Can you expand upon the Netflix Nye? I haven't seen them (and won't since pay subscriptions aren't in my budget). I'm just curious as I'm picking up that a few folks don't like Nye but I've not heard why.
TinyRandomLady@reddit
It’s been a long time since I watched it. But his whole attitude and demeanor was very different. Perhaps it was different because it was now for an adult audience versus children. But it was very offputting kind of arrogant cocky, rude versus fun, cheeky, and informative.

I hated not voting for Mr Wizard. I had his book and everything (that weird orange or on green cover), but Beakmen's World has a stronger vibe from me.
SweetCosmicPope@reddit
Mr. Wizard. Loved that show as a kid, and got some of my science fair projects from his show. After that Bill Nye.
Beakman wasn't really my thing. My little sister liked watching the show, though. For me, it meant Saturday morning cartoons were over.

Wizard > Beakman >>>>>> Nye

Are those greater thans, or progression arrows?
Complete_Bird1843@reddit
Must be some older folks in this sub. I was born in 1981, and thought Me. Wizard was boooorrriiinnngg. My younger siblings and I liked Bill Nye. But I for one liked how weird Beakman’s Wolrd was.
ken830@reddit
None of those are Xennial... Newton's Apple. 3-2-1 Contact. Even Square One TV (Math).
HopelesslyHuman@reddit
Disagree. They're almost all Xennial, including the PBS shows, and I watched them all. All worthy shows for children in their own ways.
ken830@reddit
I had to look it up... Mr. Wizard was from the 50s? And "Mr. Wizard's World was on Nickelodeon. We didn't have cable/paid TV. And being a high-schooler, Bill Nye and Beakman's World was targeting a younger audience than me.
HopelesslyHuman@reddit
Yeah. I saw Mr. Wizard's World on Nickelodeon. I guess the three years between us was a big factor. I watched all of those shows on PBS but also the first year or two of Beakman. Grew out of it but yeah.
Just older vs. younger members of the microgeneration I guess.
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
Naw, I'm more X than ennial and watched the shit out of Nye. We just didn't get Beakman or Wizard or I'd probably have watched them too.
Britown@reddit
Square One!
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
Can't vote as I've not watched all of them. Locally we only had Nye. But for what they do, they all get my love.

I don't know if it counts or not but The Magic School Bus was funded by The National Science Foundation.

I think the Mr. Wizard/Bill Nye split is very interesting and it demonstrates how much just a few years makes a huge difference when you’re transitioning from kid to adolescent. I see some people commenting that they were a little too old for Bill Nye, and when I notice that those commenters are usually born in the late 70s to about 1980, that makes total sense to me. If you were going into middle/high school in 1992, Bill Nye would have been pretty juvenile. Meanwhile, I was born in 82 and at 10 years old, I thought Bill was totally rad and so did my brother who is only a year older than me. I do remember Mr. Wizard from when I was a little kid, but I thought he was kinda boring. My oldest brother (born in 1980) loved his show, though.
