Remember when rap music got mainstream enough to be used in awkward commercials?

My favorite was Rappin’ Barney done up like Run/DMC. The cringe was real.

I remember when Dee Dee Ramone tried his hand at rapping under Dee Dee King. Went as well as could be expected from a white, heroin addicted military brat born in the 50's.
Then there's this absolute gem

In the 80’s, those jingle writers didn’t know the style and the music they made proved it. Today, when popular styles are imitated they are usually done well.

NEVER understood the "cereal thief" trope. Like WHY does the Barney need to "trick Fred out of his Pebbles"? Why can't he just go to the store and BUY cereal for himself?
SWO6@reddit (OP)
I voted for the Trix rabbit to finally get some cereal.

Why do I still remember every bar of rap. Forever in my brain like a Skyrizzi jingle I guess.

Not yet Skyrizzi jingle 🤣

Its funny that pretty much ONLY Run DMC dressed like Run DMC with the hats but to white executives if you wanted to depict "rap" it needed the Run DMC hat as if all rappers dressed that way

Run DMC was "Safe" Rap to corporate America in the 1990s, they were not controversial, they partnered with Aerosmith, they weren't scary angry rappers from the inner cities. Their style was copied on purpose as the least "Scary" rap style.

Well my name is __, and I'm here to say, That every lame rap song started this way
BMisterGenX@reddit
How many actual raps songs have this line?

I always thought it was weird when Flinstones copied current popular culture. Like if they are in Caveman times how do they know rap?
I thought it was especially weird how the "culture of the original Flinstones was essentially 60s culture but then when they had they show where the Flinstones were kids it was like the 80s with skateboarding and Fred saying radical. Like in in Caveman times the 80s came BEFORE the 60s. Which I guess makes sense because in BCE it goes backwards?

There were a couple versions of the Fruity Pebbles rappity-rap that didn't make the cut. Here's one:
I love Fruity Pebbles in my bowl
I'll eat Fruity Pebbles from your hole
I love Fruity Pebbles from east to west
I'll eat Fruity Pebbles off of your chest
I love Fruity Pebbles from north to south
I'll eat the Fruity Pebbles that are in your mouth
