When I worked as a cashier I would do this constantly. The joy in seeing those kids go into panic mode and then asking them if they will be paying by card or cash.
AmaterasuWolf21@reddit
Boredom can make you evil...
itmillerboy@reddit
Hearing cash or card just might have made me faint
Time-Mix3963@reddit (OP)
You're a menace ๐
SyntheticDuckFlavour@reddit
my kind of menace
Nadiadain@reddit
I hate when this happens. I donโt think Iโve ever felt a stronger feeling of anxiety than watching the employee up front speed blitz that scanner the moment my dad left the line โfor just a minuteโ
Time-Mix3963@reddit (OP)
Anxiety level : ๐๐๐
Boris7939@reddit
Certainly you meant ๐ instead of ๐?
616659@reddit
Why is the rising graph blue and falling one red, that bothers me
Icefox119@reddit
gay bears
Time-Mix3963@reddit (OP)
Yes, dang i clicked the wrong one. Imma edit it ๐
barwhalis@reddit
The employees do that shit intentionally lol.
Nadiadain@reddit
Oh I fully believe they do. With such a boring job I imagine watching a kid shit bricks would be the highlight of their day
WintersbaneGDX@reddit
That was the 90s grocery meta. Mom would "leave the line", the employee would stop chit chatting with the elderly and start hustling. Mom returns "just in time" from her hiding spot around the corner.
Check mate, Kroger.
Funneduck102@reddit
I've been on both sides of this, it's equally as awkward when you're the cashier lol

This is something that everyone in their lives have faced atleast once lmaoo
Electr0bear@reddit
I'm a grown ass adult and still felt that ting of anxiety from those distant memories.
Wack_photgraphy@reddit
The fact that there are adults that describe themselves as "grown ass adults" bothers me
Electr0bear@reddit
Why would it bother you, my sensitive friend?
Wack_photgraphy@reddit
Because I'm a transgender prostitute living with an underage child that I've groomed, outside of wedlock. One must always look over ones shoulder.
peepeeinmypajts@reddit
Esl, plz explain in this case is the child biologically yours and if so what gender were you at the time of conception or constipation or whatever the word I'm looking for
thr33beggars@reddit
I got so much satisfaction doing this to my kid so I can pass the trauma down to the next generation.
It was a little bit different though, as I left him at the fire station instead of the check out line and he was two months old instead of ten years, but the idea is the same.
_BlANK19_@reddit
A villain was born that day

waltuh

And then every single time cashier goes scanning everything even faster. Either they can sense and enjoy the fear or are instructed to go fast as fuck if kids are by themselves
timmyx2times@reddit
Cashier: โTime to lock in ๐โ
crispymk2@reddit
Got this + trauma from my mum needing to abandon half the food at the checkout or even leave the trolley entirely if the child support hadn't come through and card declined.
Makes me avoid any confrontation at the checkout, I'll just pay whatever is rung up.
MarthUTilt@reddit
This shit still happens to me and I'm in my mid thirties. I live in my wife's country and I don't speak the language.
She does this shit all the time and every single time feels exactly like when I was 10. Please save me.
bushhooker@reddit
Unironically worrying that the cashiers going to look at you and say โOk big man pay upโ lmao
goodfighten@reddit
Be waiting in line knowing full well they won't come back in time
