Legitimate, non-satire question for the "intellectuals" of r/greentext: How does one ethically deal with this situation? If I somehow found myself dealing with this, I couldn't bring myself to not help her but also wouldn't want to get scammed...

Not really. Do you know what is the most sold contraband in my country ? Cigarrets, you have them being sold legaly at every street corner, and yet, it is still the most sold contraband item, most people buy it illegaly. Do you why ? Because it is fucking cheaper. As there is no quality control or taxes

Same thing with human trafficking, you can either get a willing woman who works normal hours, with decent living wages or traffic a girl, make her work around the clock and give her next to nothing to survive... which one do you think gives the most money ?

But it wont stop a black market growing, not even close. Is completely stopping something the same as making it more difficult? No. Or at least I hope you don't think these are the same. Black markets exist to skirt regulation (of which legality is a form of regulation) which is why cigarettes in your country have a black market because they're probably taxed to hell. In my country there is no black market for cigarettes because they are still relatively affordable.

Therefore, once again, regulation of a product has a direct relationship with how appealing it is on the black market. Jesus.

Prostitution is always unethical, all you'd be doing is trying to assuage your own guilt. Let's assume she's truthful and needs to make $500 that evening. Your 160 doesn't actually guarantee she gets enough anyway, and contributes to human trafficking, and therefore more suffering.

If she's lying, then the scam continues and therefore so does more suffering.

The 'good' thing to do is report it, and if she objects and flees, well, she's responsible for her own choices and you can't control that, but you can offer her the safety of your home while she waits for the authorities to arrive, report her captors, and hopefully resolve the situation entirely and maybe even save other trafficking victims.
