Omega Air KDC-10 (N264DE) on ramp

Caught Omega Tanker's KDC-10 (N264DE) while waiting to depart. I mis-assumed every refueling boom was USAF/Guard but turns out these guys use converted 707s and DC-10s to support training exercises and drag fighters across the pond so the USAF and Navy don't tie up their own active-duty fleets.

So are these purely for air refueling training, or can they actually pass gas?
Yeah, sorry about that; I couldn't resist. BUT I'd still like to know the answer.

These are Ex-Royal Netherlands Air Force tankers, link here. They are the real deal and Omega has the example of taking F/A-18s from the US to Australia with fewer stops on their site.

Wow, thanks for sending the link. Pretty amazing.
So the Netherlands switched to Airbus aircraft for this role; interesting.

Not bad for a couple of Irish lads from Co. Mayo :):)

I can hear their KC-707 from miles away when it comes in to my local airport; it is by far the loudest plane that we ever get.

Those older tanker conversions definitely have a presence. You usually hear them before you spot them 😄 Cool catch seeing a KDC-10 on the ramp too.

Thanks for sharing the picture. I saw it on the taxi in and didnt know what in the heck I was looking at. Opened reddit to troll and flame as you do, and low and behold you've posted a photo of what I just saw. Â
