Why does using seal kit makes the apartment hotter?

What the hell is that setup? Thatโs more ghetto than mine and I thought mine was bad. I got a wooden board cut to fit the window, with a hole to vent.

How airtight is your apartment? Portable ac units need to push the hot air outside. That means it needs air to come into your apartment to replace the air its trying to pump out. If your apartment is really well sealed then it will create negative air pressure inside and the ac will struggle to pump the hot air outside. That's probably why it's working better without the window seal kit.
Crack open a window in another room and see if that helps it.

Alternatively modify with a second hose and then you wont draw hot air in https://www.woolie.co.uk/article/convert-ac-from-single-hose-to-dual-hose/

@NExtaaa this is the answer you're looking for.
A single hose system will always be dogshit.
Milvusmilvus@reddit
Have you got it on the right setting? I have the same one and the water hose is only needed for dehumidifying.
nikhkin@reddit
If you're using an air conditioner without a hose, you're just pumping the hot air into the room out the back of the unit.
Air conditioners naturally dehumidify the air because they cool it and the water condenses as part of the process.
Milvusmilvus@reddit
It has an air hose which I do use and a water hose which I don't
NExtaaa@reddit (OP)
I don't need a dehumidifier but to cool the room (cool mode โ๏ธ). When I removed the seal, it started to feel much cooler in the room, which doesn't make sense after what I read on Reddit from other people.
Milvusmilvus@reddit
Yes, I know, I was asking if you might have it on the wrong mode as you shouldn't need to drain water when it's in cool mode.
ShadowBannedSkyRu1e@reddit
Mine is on cool and drains water
GetNooted@reddit
It depends where the air is being pulled back in from. With the window kit it's presumably pulling air from the corridor outside. Without it's pulling air back in through the window.
It's sad that the UK doesn't have any dual hose air con units - an air inlet and outlet.
Sevenarth@reddit
You can actually buy the Midea Portasplit in the UK! Which is effectively a tiny portable split conditioner, should be almost as good as a fixed solution
Obscure-Oracle@reddit
I'm not sure why you are having an issue with the window kit, is it causing an obstruction to the exhaust? We use the same one to cool our 10m x 4m sitting room and it works very well with the optional window kit.
NExtaaa@reddit (OP)
I know, but for me, for some reason, it's the opposite.
NExtaaa@reddit (OP)
Well, I opened the sealing a few minutes ago, and it already started to feel much better compared to all day with it on. Most of the time, you cannot sit comfortably near it as it gets too cold, but with the seal, it was just slightly chilly.
Obscure-Oracle@reddit
Very strange, I don't see how with the way you have it set up. Yeah ours gets very cold when it's running, whether or not we use the window kit or not doesn't affect the air temperature coming out the unit. Maybe it's pulling in the slightly cooler air from outside and cooling that making it appear like it's running cooler? They are powerful AC units so I wouldn't have thought that would make much difference. Might be worth testing it on a lower fan speed to see if that makes a difference.
NExtaaa@reddit (OP)
I've tried many setups today ๐ ๐ , but only using it without the kit makes a difference.
Candid-Bike-9165@reddit
What tempiture is the hose air
NExtaaa@reddit (OP)
Very hot
NExtaaa@reddit (OP)
I think you misunderstood. The air coming from the unit is cold all day, but the room stayed basically the same with the AC on or off.
Warburton379@reddit
You probably don't need to drain the water in cool mode, it should use it to help with the cooling. Remove the hose and put the bung back in.
NExtaaa@reddit (OP)
I haven't tried that, but it usually collects about two buckets per day (the one in the photo).
Warburton379@reddit
Yes because you're constantly draining it, which you're not supposed to do in cooling mode.
NExtaaa@reddit (OP)
I don't know if it's a placebo, but it feels like it's blowing colder than before.
Candid-Bike-9165@reddit
Yeh i second this
