My greatest find in the junkyard today: a Babybus!

I believe its tail number was PR-ONR and it used to fly for Avianca Brasil. By the size of the aircraft, I believe it flew from Congonhas (SBSP/CGH) to Santos Dumont (SBRJ/SDU).
Known_Support5820@reddit
That’s such a cool find honestly
nodspine@reddit
I miss when she flew for Avianca. Inloved the babybuses on the domestic ramp at El Dorado

Where is this? What junkyard has random aircraft, don't most commercial aircraft go to graveyards? Pretty uncommon for a modern airliner to be sent to a random junkyard.
Nurburger1@reddit (OP)
Sadly there are no boneyards here in Brazil so most airliners just rot away in some distant field on main airports. This specific junkyard buy planes from bankrupt airlines and scraps them
Negative-Mirror5949@reddit
Ahhh I understand, do you have the name of this junkyard?
jhl_x@reddit
I remember seeing Avianca Brasil use these flights to very specific locations like Passo Fundo (PFB) and Juazeiro do Norte (JDO) here in Brazil. I don't know if it's because of its size or to adjust to demand. I flew on PR-AVJ between CGH and SDU, and it was due to luck, because these specific A318s were very problematic, with a lot of down time for maintenance.

All beautiful birds are flawed :(
Joao_Jr@reddit
Avianca operated in Brazil? When? I didn't know
Nurburger1@reddit (OP)
I believe it was an independent operation from Colombia. But they went bankrupt in 2022
adamlaceless@reddit
I’d be too tempted to take this home
Nurburger1@reddit (OP)
God knew I couldn't be trusted with a yard and a forklift
Puzzled-Formal-7957@reddit
Is this a crash site or scrapped?
Nurburger1@reddit (OP)
Just scrapped. There were tons of planes there ATR72, B727, B737, Cessna 150/172...
viniciosxs@reddit
TIL that A318 existed

You look so happy! It was such a cool afternoon with you (:

It was a special afternoon with you sz
Lower-Pace-2089@reddit
Holy crap, I actually flew on that plane at least a couple of times.
Avianca Brasil actually used the A318 on all sorts of routes, not just the Ponte Aérea. I flew it from Recife to Rio in one occasion (actually in the jumpseat too and we got an Insufficient Fuel message but that's a long story lol).
Nurburger1@reddit (OP)
Thanks for sharing that story! What an incredible little aircraft, I'd loved to see this tiny little baby cruising the Brazilian skies
badbatch@reddit
What kind of junkyard has planes?
Boundish91@reddit
Lots of Junkyards for planes around the world.
Melonary@reddit
I love how happy you look! As should anyone who encounters a wild Babybus, I'm jealous.
Nurburger1@reddit (OP)
Hahaha it's not weird at all. It was a really special day for me to get to see such a cool plane
Major-Ant4600@reddit
Guessing plane? this
Ecoservice@reddit
Seems inefficient to transport it, they could have just landed in the backyard.
noncongruent@reddit
Not likely. Different paint job, plus the house-converted plane is on a slab foundation and OP's is laying in the dirt.
Nurburger1@reddit (OP)
Im really not sure. The article's plane is from a different state from mine, but it's a neighbouring state so I might as well be the same plane.
Crazy__Donkey@reddit
here you go
i'd seriously suggest the owner of the yard to cut some of if to key chains. .

I can’t believe they’re already retiring A220s

What?
That1nobodydude@reddit
Basically, there was a post in the sub that was explaining how the OP was about to board an A318, but it was in fact an A220.
since then people are using that for jokes.
peterpanic32@reddit
Isn't the double irony that airlines actually are retiring A220s?
gsmitheidw1@reddit
I'm persevering with my belief that the A318 was a murderer of the Avro RJX.
Bluemikami@reddit
On the bright side, the 318 doesnt have the same kill count as the Avro
gsmitheidw1@reddit
The Avro had some issues with fumes in the cabin and some other random pilot error issues but I don't recall it being particularly unsafe?
Bluemikami@reddit
Unfortunately it wasnt due aircraft issues but one was a deliberate action, and the other was a massive pilot miscalculation/mistake Lamia 2933

LMFAO
I would have 100% done that exact mistake
gsmitheidw1@reddit
Wish I could find it, there was an article which explained that BAe Systems were ordered to cancel the Avro RJX because of potential internal competition from the then soon to be launched A318.

Please give me the link of that post

My first ever international flight was on one of Air France’s A318s… I have a soft spot for these tiny guys. A318s and A340s have gotta be my faves
kkania@reddit
The only time I flew an A318 was on AF! What a dopey little plane - I remember it seemed to go vertical on takeoff.

How bad does the interiors of planes get when they are left out in the tropics like this? How is the mold situation inside?

Daily trivia: the Congonhas/Santos Dumont route between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro is so busy and frequently travelled that is affectionately known as "Ponte Aérea", or Air Bridge.
