Convince me I don’t need to upgrade rx6800 (non XT)-> 9070xt

Accompanied by a 13700k and 32GB ram, targeting 1440p.
9070xt on Amazon for $669USD rn. I don’t have many issues with the rx6800, besides that it’s showing some age and newer games I’m struggling to get over high 50’s, 60’s FPs, running highish graphics at 1440p. Examples like Nioh 3, borderlands 4, FF16. Card still runs a majority of games very well, as I play a pretty big mix of newer and older games.
Generally I’m just running native as I don’t really think the card is new enough for reliable upscaling I think? I haven’t seen many threads on it for the 6800 specifically
My bigger concern is whether or not it’s enough going forward. I’d like to pick up FH6, and I’m very excited for AC4 resynced, and I just want to ensure I can play these at a decent FPS without losing too much graphically. Second concern I have with the card is that it’s constantly running hot. Most games I’m easily hitting 80c +. I’ve been bouncing around the idea of upgrading for a while and that price USD sounds really good. Someone talk me out of it so I can put that money somewhere else lol (it’d just go to hobby car parts otherwise)

Maybe wait till FSR4 is a thing for the rx 6800 and see then?

Is that gonna happen? I figured that was exclusively a new card feature. I don’t trust devs to continue support for their tech indefinitely
cremvursti@reddit
Yeah, but the update for the 6000 will only be available starting next year, so it's up to you I guess...
DrSauron@reddit
But...the 6000 has hardware missing that 7000 onwards has...it isn't probably going to be the same effectively...

FSR4.1 is scheduled to come to RDNA2 (6000 series) in Q1 2027
AdnarimYdeth@reddit
They’re releasing FS4 for 6000 and 7000 series cards. 6000 series will get it in early 2027.
droideka_bot69@reddit
Yeah 7000 series is getting it June/July. 6000 will be early 2027

Had no idea, crazy
9okm@reddit
Don't buy until you have a problem.
HonchosRevenge@reddit (OP)
Cleaned yes. I’m not confident in repasting a GPU. I try to to leave things as is as much as possible, as I have a tendency to fuck shit up.
9okm@reddit
Fair enough. Undervolt then.

I would probably be waiting for next gen, but I'm also very patient when it comes to my upgrade cadence. I wouldn't be surprised if within 2.5 years, you're looking at your 9070XT and wishing it was an RDNA 5 card instead. Unless the value of having something better than your 6800 until then is there, I wouldn't bother.
HonchosRevenge@reddit (OP)
Ehh I really don’t get fomo too bad with this kind of stuff. Not too worried about that. Usually the new gen prices are enough to tell me “I’m good lol.” Again, goal is just moderate FPS at 1440p. If I was striving for anything better then maybe. From what I understand the 9070xt is already very new in my eyes, considering I bought my 6800 in 2024…
ThankGodImBipolar@reddit
New gen prices don't really matter too much if you keep the money and hold off on upgrading until then. Imagine all the 4090s that Nvidia sold to 1080Ti owners/etc., who decided to hold off on a 3080Ti because it wasn't a big enough upgrade for the price... that's the kind of thing that would make me wish I had held off for a little longer.
That's just me though - if you don't think that way, then my viewpoint should be ignored. That's just my opinion though.
HonchosRevenge@reddit (OP)
I kinda agree with you, my counterargument is always gonna be what exactly is a “worth it” Upgrade though. If I wait around for the next gen, how long am I waiting? And is that enough of an upgrade for me then? Then I just keep waiting and waiting and it’s an endless cycle
Expert_Conflict6374@reddit
You do need to upgrade, 6800 is low end obsolete card in 2026
You are just cheap, and you want people to agree with you
HonchosRevenge@reddit (OP)
I’m definitely cheap, but I also don’t keep Up with tech enough to say I need to swap parts every so often. I just built my current pc in early 2024 so in my eyes I was hoping to get more mileage out of it by now. A lot of recent titles have unfortunately convinced me I should look at something newer since so many games are relying on Ray tracing and Ai to pick up the slack.
Not trying to get people to agree with me though lol, I’m hoping folks will have actually helpful input because I always end up missing someone on the research side that makes me regret my decision later.

What you need is to forget Intel...
Commercial_Fix6812@reddit
I'd do it. I feel it's a worthwhile upgrade. Esp since it's the non-XT model.
