How far are we from self driving cars being on the road?

What are you talking about? Around 400 people get killed by human-driven cars every year in Britain. That's 400 more graves *every single year*. We could reduce the number, sure, but it's never going to be zero per year; the death count will only ever go up. The number of cars on the road is also increasing, so human-driven cars are *right now* 'expanding and killing more people in the long run'. Why is it better that the death count goes up thanks to human drivers rather than automated ones? If 400 people died in plane crashes every year, no one would fly anywhere, but we tolerate road deaths. Why do you think that would be worse with more driverless cars and fewer traditional cars? You talk about not wanting corporations to profit from killing 'under a certain number of people', but that's literally not how the world works I'm afraid. I think you fundamentally misunderstand, or are not aware of, the concept of risk management. I also think that you're so desperate to stick to your 'corporations bad' preconception that you've tied yourself in knots.
