Do you work from home at this weather?

I am sure here are superhumans among us, but do you really work in this weather at home? Most houses in Uk have no aircondition and the electric one is not useful for whole day. I have Dyson very strong one but still, my house gets very hot after about 6-7pm thats when i need to get shower often and my brain is just off. I can manage to do simple tasks, but i cant manage to do more complex ones. I am supposed to handle in work tomorrow and i still didnt start.
In my opinion, Uk should introduce siesta times or days off, which would be compensated for longer woring hours when its not hot, so it does not hurt economy, but weather is changing, in 10 years time we can face 40’s and if you look at latino hot countries, they have this system for reasons.
People just should have days off because many are much less productive anyway, ( unless living in new appartments with aircondition) , and have no health issues. Many of us have, which makes it difficult. My neighbour has heart condition, i have allergies and take antihistamines, my roommate as well, plus she is underroof so its roasting there.

I WFH and don’t have AC. What I do have is the coldest corner of the house - it is awful for 8 months of the year, but pays dividends in the summer.
FuzzyPalpitation-16@reddit
ugh… i’m top floor flat and it’s 25-26 inside….
Rubberfootman@reddit
That doesn’t sound like fun.
FuzzyPalpitation-16@reddit
i’m trying to cool it down by closing curtains etc in the day with a fan running but yeah…..

Yes. We do have a noisy, portable air-con unit, but we haven't deployed it yet.
Iced drinks, a fan and a south-facing home office are generally fine. If it goes above 28C at 50% humidity for any length of time I'll get the air-con set up.
It is fully my intention to get a decent split-system air-con install sorted out for next year.

I bought a fan from Tesco last year that you fill up with cold water and it blows through that until the tank is empty. it works pretty well.
QuestionTalkerUK@reddit
Its either work from home or do a two hour commute in a car with broken air con. I choose to suffer at home.
Prefect_99@reddit
You could fix the car...
BrillsonHawk@reddit
If its a choice between suffering at home and suffering at work i always choose home

Yes. I don’t have air con but I feel very grateful to not have a commute in the heat or e.g. to work as a manual labourer. So I’m happy enough to be a bit hot and still do my job.

It's been too hot for 2 days, and in another 2 it won't be too hot anymore. A great deal of people who work from home can work under a tree in their garden; it's very pleasant.
Nobody's going to go through the massive disruption of introducing broken up working days, with all the related impacts on people's lives, for the few days a year here it's too hot.
How do you suggest we should deal with the impacts? Would you suggest that we have a siesta every day or just on the hot days, and how would that work? It's really not as simple as 'Oh, let's all just have a couple of extra hours for lunch and stay until 7pm... everybody's ok with that yeah?'

I'm a gardener so that isn't an option for me. I've been working outside all of today. Suffice to say, I'm shagged.

I WFH 100% of the time and it’s best in the summer. I have a big fan, can wear what you like, sometimes I work in the garden and I can go on walks on the canal on my lunch. Also get all the washing done and dried super quick during the day. Yes office has air con but you also have to suffer public transport in the heat
Ok-Middle8656@reddit
You don’t have to wear clothes when you work from home!

Just remember not to put your camera on during Teams call.
Unless maybe ….

kifflington@reddit
Depends what your job is, I suppose.
No-Relief4861@reddit
My office doesn't have Aircon either lol. At least I have windows at home
Unnegative@reddit
Work has a coldstore. I'd probably work for free on days like this.
Mysterious-Sock39@reddit
I have air conditioning nice and cool
FuzzyPalpitation-16@reddit
i used to live in southeast asia where most places and homes have AC and ceiling fans and i miss it so much when we hit heatwaves in the UK cause the homes here aren’t made to withstand this heat
Visible_Pipe4716@reddit
Butt nekkid
h_424@reddit
Yes downstairs is extremely cooler part of my house. Our downstairs is all laminate so In summer staying downstairs is the place to be. Plus my manager told us not to come in because of the heat.
FuzzyPalpitation-16@reddit
my office has AC so i’d rather be there (i only wfh 2x a week) than my flat (i live on top floor so get the worst of the heat lol) even with fans and closing curtains to stop the heat
Proud_Ad_8915@reddit
It's cool here and as a full time carer I can't just have a siesta or not work just because it's slightly hotter than normal.
nonoanddefinitelyno@reddit
I bought a ProBreeze air conditioner at Christmas.
After this week it has proven to be beyond doubt the greatest purchase I have made in my entire life.
I only wish I could afforded two because lugging it up and downstairs is a paid (but worth it).
Great-Ad-632@reddit
My house is nice and cool usually in the day as it’s an old Victorian building and the room is north facing. It’s only at night that I get hot! It’s not that uncomfortable that it’s worth the commute for me
Greedy-Nature-826@reddit
If you WFH then you save a lot anyway, but air con?
