Do I need to be 18 to buy alcohol-free beer in Sainsburys?

Title. Hope everyone's enjoying the heatwave, my dad's set me out on buying a 4 pack of Heineken 0,0% ABV. Will I get ID'd and refused as checkout?
Well-Known-Elf@reddit
Yes because technically it still has . Something alcohol in it so still needs to be sold as such.

Yoghurt has more alcohol than zero alcohol beer
jimicus@reddit
Yes, but not for the reasons you think.
Legally, anything below a certain percentage (I think it’s 0.5%) can be sold to anyone. They have to do this otherwise bananas would be age restricted.
Practically, the drinks industry has reached a quiet agreement with the government: they ID people for 0% beer; the government won’t interfere with the fact that it’s sold alongside and packaged almost identically to the real thing.

Why would the government interfere?

Shandy bass doesn't fit this criteria or has it changed?
TartanGuppy@reddit
Bad news for you, it hasn't been around since 2018 https://www.reddit.com/r/CasualUK/comments/1581fal/rip_shandy_bass/

Used to like that as a kid. Makes sense I haven't seen it in some time

No, that's not true. Drinks under 0.5% alcohol can legally be sold to children. Otherwise children wouldn't even be able to buy orange juice as most fruit juice has traces of alcohol.
However OP will likely be asked for identification. This is supermarket policy rather than law.
Puzzled-Barnacle-200@reddit
Yes, annoyingly. It's the same in all supermarkets. I got IDed trying to buy 0% ales for my husband a couple of weeks ago. I didn't have ID on me so they were confiscated.
montyrattus@reddit
Yes it needs approval.
Appropriate_Trader@reddit
One way to find out.
grepusman@reddit
Yes. When I buy it, it still requires approval.
