do not cheap out on the motherboard. Ever.

Please, whatever you do, do not buy a cheap motherboard. Because of my poor decision making with my first PC I built last year, I have been stuck with an absolute stinker of a mobo. I...
Do not have enough USB slots
Am stuck on gen 3 speeds
Cannot use the second pcie bus because all 2 slot gpus block it off
Cannot use the RGB on my AIO
Only have one m.2 slot
Can't/won't risk upgrading my cpu for fear of total system failure (ryzen 7 5700x)
DO NOT BE LIKE ME
Board is a asrock a520m-hdv, one of if not the worst AM4 boards money can buy. SPEND THE EXTRA

The problem here doesn't seems the cheaped out mobo, but the lack of research before buy.
ImStillExcited@reddit
Knowing what you’re buying, and how the build will fundamentally center around it is important for sure.

That was definitely part of the problem
syunz@reddit
Well buy the mobo for the cpu you're getting. The vrms on the a520s are usually not good enough for the higher end cpus such as the 5800x3d without running really hot.

i wouldnt cheap out on anything, around mid-grade is the sweet spot ..except case . those cheap chinese cases are the shizzle haha ..
Dirtcompactor@reddit
Antec flux pro case or nothing at all.. definitely don't cheap out on case if you care about having good temperatures

Don't buy asrock motherboards
I got one, once, and it was a high end board but it couldn't deliver power correctly and a "downgrade" solved all my problems

I have a B760 with a 13900KS.
Does that count ?
Iabhoryouu@reddit
B760 is fine, as long as you got good VRM heatsinks.
9okm@reddit
Not really.
Salviati_Returns@reddit
I think this is pretty sound advice. I think one of the key things is to make sure that your motherboard can handle an upgrade otherwise you are effectively trapping your system.
9okm@reddit
A 5700X would be totally fine.
immortalanddead@reddit (OP)
Yeah, that's what I'm using right now but I don't think the VRMs of the board would be good for a 5700x3d or 5800x/3d
9okm@reddit
Likely fine. They're not that power hungry for gaming workloads.
priest2705@reddit
Instead of complaining about the issues with the board, why not buy one an AM4 mobo that suits your needs better? Or are you just going to try to roll with this one until you decide to invest in AM5?
Henslykg@reddit
You spend on what you can dude. It took a time till I got tier a psu with 10y warranty and a good mobo. It isnt always easy.

Also had a very poor experience with my asrock b550 years ago. Lots of random bugs. Had to switch which USB port I was using often. Tried adding a Bluetooth receiver which didn’t work. I got a better board with a micro center bundle and haven’t had any problems unlike my asrock.
