Boomer in laws are exhausting

We are at the lake house most weekends with my hubbies parents and this is my FIL list to do. He can literally never sit down and he just turned 80. do they think they will die if they stop moving? It’s great they are both in good health and can do this all but this Gen X’er is exhausted from work and taking care of my mother. With they could just sit and relax here because once I arrive I am in the recliner and on socials unplugging from the week. Puts a lot of work on my hubbie and we enjoy there weekends we are here alone. We do nothing lol. Had to vent. They are great people but could you just sit and play cards?

The work needs to be done. You could pay someone to do it, or one of you can do it. That's the choice.
If you pay someone to do it, you may as well have just rented a house instead.
You cannot just go there and kick your feet up, you have to do this work first.
This is a reason to not have a lake house, IMO.

My aunt and uncle have a really nice lake house. A couple years ago they were at the point of considering selling it due to exactly that, the cost of upkeep and the fact that their grand kids were getting to be older teens and extended family get togethers weren't as possible anymore.
Then hurricane Helene hit. Still planning on selling, but there is much work to be done first.

Gets to hang out for free at their own private lake house.
Proceeds to complain about chores that need to be done.

Yeah, you use their lake house, you need to step up and help on the maintenance. Sit around your own house. Lazy kids.

lol you out of touch fuckin boomers. Still demanding things from others after they spend their entire lives taking everything and pulling the ladder up behind them every step of the way. If someone invites you to their house for a fun time, there is zero obligation to do their fucking yard work. Only boomers think inviting people over gives them every right to force guests to be a servant. Then they say stupid shit like ‘lazy kids’. The world will be a better place when the last boomer finally dies.

Whose lake house is it? The in-laws? Sounds like the price of having a lake house is having to do some maintenance and upkeep. Or do you expect your 80 year old FIL to do it all while his son scrolls? Doesn't sound like they want to sit and play cards. Sounds like you and your husband are able to use the house alone to do nothing while you're there. Maybe I'm taking your post differently than intended but you aren't coming off very well in this scenario. You do you, but I'd be embarrassed to watch my in laws work to keep up a lake house that you benefit from their owning it.

One reason they’re in their 80s is because they don’t just sit around. You have to stay active if you want to age well.
jfdonohoe@reddit
Don’t know if this applies to them but for many if you’re moving you don’t have to sit still with your own thoughts

One of the biggest concerns for aging people is that once you stop moving voluntarily, you may lose the ability to move much at all. Agree with the others, help lighten the load!

This reads for the most part like a list for getting the lake house you visit. The work obviously needs to be done. You want someone to do the work so you can sit and stare at your phone. Maybe offer to hire a handyman to do the maintenance work.

So the complaint is that your in laws are taking care of your vacation home while you get to sit on your ass and doom scroll? I'm not sure I understand the frustration.

I make lists like this for myself as well. I have to so that I dont forget to do something between chores while taking a break. Its also nice to write things down and check things off instead of using a digital device to track action items.
I think you may also be looking at this a little bit one sided. One of the reasons you can go here and relax, kick your feet up, etc.. is that your FIL already cleaned up and fixed a lot of things for you to do so. That list may not include all the things that have to be maintained so that others can enjoy the place your staying with ease.
