Is this PC build good for gaming + development (LLMs too)? Any changes you would make?

Hey everyone,
I’m putting together a new PC mainly for gaming and software development, but I also want to do some light LLM work (local inference and experimentation, not training large models).
I’m aware of the limitations of consumer hardware, especially VRAM, so I’m not expecting anything beyond reasonable local use. My goal is simply a strong, balanced high-end system that will stay relevant for a few years.
Here’s my current build plan:
- GPU: Zotac GAMING GeForce RTX 5080 AMP Extreme INFINITY (16GB GDDR7)
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- Motherboard: Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE X3D WIFI7
- RAM: 32GB (2x16) DDR5 6000MHz CL30
- SSD: Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2TB NVMe or WD Black SN8100 2TB Gen5
- PSU: 1000W (undecided, likely Corsair or Seasonic)
- Case: Fractal Design Meshify 2 XL
- CPU cooling: Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420 AIO
- Airflow plan: front + bottom intake, top (AIO) + rear exhaust
My reasoning:
- Gaming is the priority (high FPS, 1440p / 4K)
- Dev work includes Docker, VS Code, Visual Studio, and multiple services running
- LLM usage is light (local inference, testing, experimentation)
- I prefer low noise, good thermals, and stability over aesthetics
Questions:
- Does anything in this build look unbalanced or like a bottleneck?
- Would you change anything (CPU vs GPU balance, cooling)?
- Any PSU recommendations for this kind of setup?
- Which SSD would you pick: Samsung 990 EVO Plus or WD SN8100 Gen5?
- Is the Meshify 2 XL still a good choice for this kind of build?
- Is the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420 a good match or overkill for the case/CPU?
- Do I need additional case fans, or are stock fans enough?

Will you be doing any code compiling? If so I would recommend a cpu with more cores like a 9950x3d, that way you get the x3d for gaming and extra cores to help with code compilation. Same with the ram, based on what you want to run I would recommend 48 or 64gb of ram, it will help with both code and running the services you mentioned.

hi, tnx for commenting. That CPU is out of my budget, i think 9800x3d will work for me. Regarding Ram... Yeah I am very aware of it , but i think I will wait for some better times. Prices are crazyyy.
