any good older pickup trucks?

I've recently been looking for a pickup truck, but I notice everything new seems to basically be a whole family sized van with a truck bed attached. I don't plan on toting people around in this, only stuff... and I'm not the best at parking. I currently drive a kia soul if that tells you anything. I don't expect a truck to be compact, but I remember older trucks being smaller. any good reliable older trucks I should look out for?

Here you go. No problem parking these little guys!

I just ordered from them and mine will be coming in soon.

Holy shit those markups for vehicles you can't even give away in Japan is crazy
ktappe@reddit
I have a friend from Japan who says as soon as these vehicles reach 25 years of age, their prices shoot up because they know they can export them to America for big $.

When I was there yahoo auctions was filled to the brim with Kei trucks for less than $500 USD because nobody wants older models there, it's a huge throwaway culture with cars. Someone I know works at a service station and said the back lot was full of trucks people drop off and abandon
ktappe@reddit
Wow. So if somebody imports them to the US and charges us thousands, they’re making a huge margin?

Some initial thoughts… Pre 2008-ish Ford Rangers, Chevrolet S10, or early Chevrolet Colorados/GMC Cantons. If you get a 90s Ford F-150 (avoid the Triton motor?), those are about the same size as most midsize new trucks.
If price is flexible, the new Ford Maverick is a great option.
reidft@reddit
The 4.6 Triton is a god tier engine, the 5.4 is the one to avoid
DerpMasterPro@reddit
Ah, makes sense. I remembered there was one you wanted to avoid.
reidft@reddit
A lot of people look at the 5.4 and say all Tritons, but the 2v 4.6 is one of the best engines they've ever made. Like up there with the 4.9 i6. Sucks that it gets caught up in the reputation and doesn't get the recognition it deserves

My 2001 GMC Sonoma 4x4 with the 4.3 is still rippin’ hard. It has 148k and I am going to drive that thing into the ground

Own an 06 Ranger, this is the answer.
iamr3d88@reddit
Yea, the newer rangers are like old f150 size. If you want old ranger size, the maverick has filled thst spot.

Ford & GM both still make regular cab short box trucks. Here’s one in red.

It’s been so long since I seen a good clean one. I think they went the way of the 240 and have all been modded and molested.
demon_twink_gockie@reddit
Shit, I see em all the time lol. Look around places with a heavy Mexican population. Popular work trucks for them folks.

Don’t forget the terrible paint.
Brownfletching@reddit
Yeah that too. Also downright terrible fuel mileage, even for a V8.

Anything from before the global financial crisis is a better truck than anything since.
reidft@reddit
Ford Rangers and Chevy S10s are super hardy light duty trucks. You can get them both with a 4 cylinder for light work and fuel economy or a v6 if you need to do more. Either can be 4x4 or manual or both.
annyongggg@reddit
Old tundra or tacoma. Even with 250,000 miles, it still has half of its life left

First Gen Honda Ridgeline. Pretty much indestructible.

Late 90s Toyota T100, Ford Ranger when they were small, or Nissan frontier
ollieottah@reddit
If you're not looking for something massive, Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, old Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado/gmc Canyon. A Toyota will be the most reliable, but also the most expensive.
Resident_Advisor_292@reddit
Toyota pickups from 1979 through 1995 are small and reliable with the 4 cylinder 22r/22re. The first gen toyota Tacoma 1994-1996 are also very reliable.
