What job should a bored software engineer switch to?

I am a software engineer, however, after being in the industry some time I am bored. I want to switch to another job where I still can use my skills and preferably I am not looking at a screen all day. Please share your recommendations, I don't mind if the job is completely random. I am based in the west home counties, for a location point of reference.

Punch cards, paper tape, hand assembler on Intel 4004 and UV EPROMS. Core memory. And now AI and machine learning. Worked down mines and up radio towers, machines sorting diamond and gold ore, military in tanks and helicopters and banks and insurance companies. It's been a hell of a ride.

>NCA are always on the lookout for people with digital skills. That's because the public sector massively underpays. I'm a not particularly highly paid software engineer and if I wanted to work for GCHQ (I couldn't find any equivalent jobs for the NCA), I would have to take a 70% pay cut.

Do you have to switch careers or can you not just accept that jobs there to allow for more fun outside of work? A large number of people posting these questions often later admit to having no hobbies or social life and all they have going on is work. No wonder it seems like the issue in those circumstances. So it’s prob worth asking yourself, is work the actual issue?

It's currently pretty hard for qualified people to secure a job in their preferred field even if they have all the qualifications, so I'd recommend staying put and admitting that work is often miserable - or if you really do want to work somewhere else, apply for jobs without telling your boss. You're not required to tell them you're looking for something else, and if you are genuinely valuable to them then your current employer will offer you a pay rise if you say you've been offered a better role elsewhere. Be a customer, not a serf.
