Retired UK woman considering settling in one of the '7% tax towns' in Italy. Ideally I would like to buy a small rural house with pool. Would rent initially. Any advice or suggestions welcomed.

You realize that those are a complete waste of money time and effort, right? You will spend an absolute fortune to get a dump. Meanwhile, the so-called 7% magically becomes 30 or even 50% overnight when the local authorities jump in. Are you just seeing things online and thinking oh yes I can do that or have you actually done any research?

If you don't speak it already, start learning Italian.

You have to be careful where you locate to. Southern Italy is in major parts still ruled by the mafia. There shouldn't be an issue as you are a retired woman but better be informed how the situation is around those villages
