slavery is illegal unless you committed a crime. Make homelessness a crime. take away everyone's ability to afford shelter. Slavery is now basically legal again!

The end goal would be universal basic income for everybody while AI does all the work. That's the best case scenario I guess, or AI kills everyone
nedovolnoe_sopenie@reddit
>he genuinely thinks he is going to be paid
azraelxii@reddit
This is why it won't happen. At some point tech brings costs of goods down and service jobs pay enough, or else AI worker costs raise to meet human employee costs
brainmydamage@reddit
Their plan is to let everyone except the rich die, and run their own economy for the rich. Basically exactly what they do now. Look into the k-shaped economy.
baz4k6z@reddit
Does anon believe any of these billionaires that are sleeping on immense wealth think long term ? Of course not, it's all about the next quarter results.
doodle0o0o0@reddit
That’s why all these companies are showing massive losses every quarter? Of course it’s for long term. They think if you’re the first to make AGI there are massive gains to be made
mach1alfa@reddit
they can’t make AGI with LLM, it’s like trying to make a space shuttle when you are developing very expensive kites
TheOleicOracle@reddit
Are you an AI expert?
mach1alfa@reddit
no, but if you have done any basic research of LLM fundamentals, then you would understand that an "AI" model that predicts text will not and cannot be truly intelligent no matter how much money you throw at it, which the industry as a whole seems to be hellbent on trying
CursedPoetry@reddit
I’m curious what you’ve read? I work in this field and am curious to hear your thoughts
N1ghtshade3@reddit
No, Yann LeCun is, though, having headed Meta's AI division for the last decade, and has spoken extensively about the limitations of LLMs.
TheOleicOracle@reddit
Good to know, I'll read more about them.
Doddsey372@reddit
You do realise that billionaires don't 'sleep on immense wealth'. They are continously putting that wealth to use. Its that which keeps them ahead of others and their own wealth accumulating. They also force the events that gives them opportunities.
As for the short term thinking, I'd at least call it medium term like the rest of us at worst, they probably out plan us all which is why they are rich and we are not. Short term thinking would just get exploited by other rich people who think a step ahead, people who stay rich are not short term thinkers.
Reducing billionaires to evil charactures just misses the point that they are smart, ruthless, opportunists who managed to play their hand at the right time to their own advantage.
CatBroiler@reddit
So, when AI and robotics get good enough to replace basically everyone, the people who own the AI/robots can just trade with each other. Pretty simple, really
drdicerchio@reddit
And then we can trade amongst ourselves I guess
CloudySpace@reddit
I mean damn, we must find a way yo reduce poplation then, or something like that hmhmhmmm how would we do thattt
CatBroiler@reddit
I mean, we're doing that already in most of the west at least

Thoughtful_Mouse@reddit
People having less than two kids is already doing too good of a job.
We probably need to reduce global population if we're going to live the lifestyle we want to live and not destroy the planet, but we also seem to need to grow the population to sustain the economy.
Kind of a catch 22.
commentsandopinions@reddit
yeah not enough people to grow the economy is the problem
Thoughtful_Mouse@reddit
That issue at the forefront of your mind is a big problem, and we need to address it as a society. It is not the only problem, though, and there is some risk in viewing everything in terms of a problem you are focused on.
If you behead all the billionaires French revolution style and redistribute their wealth, the problems in our economic system created by a falling population would still exist, but with bigger numbers on the price tags because of inflation.
There can be two things wrong with a complex system at one time.
Gheredin@reddit
Almost like an economic system based on infinite growth is not sustainable

CatBroiler@reddit
Kind of, but instead of a King having many subjects, it's just one or two people and their immediate family and social circle.
Alaykitty@reddit
Everyone else would become their subject. Much like the kings and lords of feudalism, they'd own everything and "rent" it out to everyone else. E.g. you use my land to grow plants, in exchange for 90% of your yield. You get to live off that 10% yield. Congratulations!

Sounds more like a game at that point.
Buttfranklin2000@reddit
There's a german SciFi-satire that mentions this concept in a fluff/offhanded comment in one chapter. There's robots that specifically exist to circle money in the economy, i.E. they just go around shopping centers and buy luxury articles to uselessly circle money and make numbers go up for companies, no added value to society.
Maybe this will actually happen, oh boy.

LeopoldFriedrich@reddit
Social media only works with electricity, a good that (at least in the USA) will become very scarce in competition with data centers and when people have to decide between Instagram and food, what will they choose?
Buttfranklin2000@reddit
As long as the meaningless shit is coming. But the problem is, the elites are tightening the clamps more and more, willingly or unwillingly as a sideeffect of their greed.
Maybe nothing will happen. Maybe people will be fed up one day, who knows. As it stands, it feels like it's like with a wifebeater. Dude slaps that woman giving him lip every time, and she stays with him. But one day, may it be the one slap too much, or the slap too hard, or in the wrong moment and he'll find out that she packed her bags and fled the household, maybe even going to the police and fucking his cozy wifebeating life up.
We'll see. But in any case, the future is going to get interesting.

emil836k@reddit
Paywalled News article?
Probably the least reliable source there is
Think of it like this the majority of money is owned by a smaller number of people, so the major population of poor people obviously can’t be spending and equally large part of money
Maybe it isn’t exactly 10-50 ratio, but the classic 20/80 ratio is a pretty decent estimation
In any case, a smaller amount of people is owns and runs a larger amount of the economy, regardless of the exact number
_noahitall_@reddit

Buttfranklin2000@reddit
>Fun fact 10% of American consumers are responsible for over 50% of all consumption
Isn't that a bit "purely by numbers"? This probably just means that they consume the most in moneys worth, not actual consumption. If one dude buys a super yacht or a sports car he probably weighted my whole 10 year consumption 1:1 - but that doesn't actually creates as much worth in form of workplaces as all the small consumption normal people do, i.E. food, hygiene products and all that. Way more companies and logistic lines held up by that than by one yacht.
Sounds like a not so feasible economy for the mid- to long run, only short term...oh wait, shit...

Two things:
AI Feudalism: AI companies own everything, people are now at their mercy. This is the goal of people like Elon and Peter Thiel who believe people are dangerous without a ruler at the top.
AI Socialism: With AI replacing workers, the government takes control of the companies and uses the technology to distribute goods to people. The goal is to create a post scarcity world by allocating resources efficiently.
There is a third route with ubi, but it eventually collapses to feudalism since the capital becomes allocated to the ai companies and the rich can drive all the consumption with their excess wealth.
