Title: AM4 upgrade dilemma: 5700X3D vs moving to AM5 for Tarkov / future 1440p

Hey, I’m currently unsure what upgrade path makes the most sense.
My current build:
Ryzen 5 3600XT
ASUS PRIME B550M-A WIFI II
32 GB DDR4-3200 CL16
RTX 4060 8 GB
be quiet! System Power 9 700W
I mostly play games like Tarkov at 1080p, but I might switch to 1440p in the next 1 to 2 years.
I was thinking about upgrading to a 5700X3D first and then maybe upgrading the GPU later. Problem is, the 5700X3D is really hard to find where I live, and if I find one it’s usually used or overpriced.
So now I’m wondering: should I still try to get a 5700X3D, get another AM4 CPU, or just sell my CPU/mobo/RAM and move to AM5 with something like a 7600/7600X?
What would you do?

They are doing a 10th anniversary 5800x3d so id 100% wait for that,
I have a 5800x (non 3d) 32gb 3600mts and a 9070xt and play virtually everything at 4k 60fps+ with a few newer/more intensive games requiring fsr4 quality so its definitely enough,
I was saving for an am5 build myself but with 1 year of ram prices being absurd I bit the bullet and bought a 9070xt to replace my 6900xt and i couldnt be happier......
I am now saving again to upgrade to am5 hoping that prices will be better in another 12-18 months.
In my opinion am4 is still enough for a good experience even at 4k for me not to be too worried about a whole platform upgrade,
32gb of ddr5 6000 is about $500+ a 9070xt is only $600 so it isnt really a choice.

So long as your CPU isn't giving you issues as is, I'd upgrade GPU first. Just my humble uneducated resdit opinion though lol 🙏

I agree with this. But that said, OP I have a lightly used RTX 3080 if you want it. I just got a 5080 slim so do not need my 3080 anymore. Let me know! And good luck either way w your decision.

Shoot, how much you looking to get? lol im building my new rig and currently sitting on a RX580 for it until I can afford something a little better.

Make me a fair offer. $300 range is what I’m seeing. Around $350 give or take. But again make me an offer I’m not concerned about $20 up or down.

I am in europe so shipping would be a pain
mshab356@reddit
Oh yeah it would lol. Sorry I wish I could help!

For reference, I sold my 10gb 3080 for $330. FB marketplace and eBay hover around the $300 mark.

You have no indication of pricing in your area.
It's always if you're already on am4, go 5700x3d if it's much cheaper than going new am5 build.
There are always exceptions
PogTuber@reddit
Find a used 5600X they're hovering around $100. It's a substantial improvement over the 3600

AMD is about to re-release the 5800X3D (source).
Or you can switch to Intel (12600KF + Z790 board) to keep your RAM.
Either option gives you more CPU cores & should cost ~$310.
But if you can afford DDR5, Intel Core Ultra 5 245KF is actually a better value than a Ryzen 7600 build.
I doubt your GPU is holding you back in Tarkov, AFAIK the game is very CPU/RAM-dependant.

X3D chips on am4 made sense 1 or 2 years ago when they were cheap, no idea why would someone put 300-400 bucks a dead platform.

Yeah, that’s probably the annoying part I’m starting to realize. I might just have to bite the bullet, sell the CPU, RAM, motherboard and probably the GPU too, and move to a newer setup properly.
It just hurts because the GPU was bought in July 2024 and the system still feels pretty recent to me. So it feels like a full reset even though nothing is actually broken.

Or sell the cpu and get a 5600x or 5700x till the prices normalize. Should be a 20-30% boost, not sure how much on Tarkov.

5700x3D is as good as the 7600/7600x, you will see zero improvements and in some games even less fps where the x3D chip matters. You want to spend all that money for zero gains? The only worth upgrades are 7800x3D or rather a 9800x3D but not with that GPU.
Get a proper GPU man, a 9070/9070xt will give you double the performance of any CPU upgrade in the world, even in 1080p. That CPU is good enough for the next 4-5 years specially if you swap to 1440p.
