Get more storage and it's perfect
BalTheProtogenFox@reddit
I’d go for a 12 gb of vram on top of other suggestions too
ShinyJaker@reddit
This is mental. You're suggesting he upgrade from a 5050 to a 5070. At that point just tell him to get a 5090 and 9800X3D.
An entry level build is absolutely fine with a 5050. That's literally why the 5050 exists.
ShinyJaker@reddit
That's a solid entry level build for a teenager. Are you building yourself or getting pre built?
QuadSplit@reddit (OP)
Its pre-built on sale right now. 700 Euro
ShinyJaker@reddit
That's a good price to be honest. You might want to upgrade storage down the line depending on the games to be played.
MountainWoodpecker55@reddit
Not a bad price, the storage is low, I'll go with 1tb instead of 512gb
PINEAPPLECURDS3@reddit
700 euro??? That sounds suspiciously cheap
No_Guarantee7841@reddit
512gb storage is too low nowadays, get at least 1tb. Also dont need ddr5, just get ddr4 which is also cheaper.
Karkinosu@reddit
You can’t just “get ddr4” though, you have the change the whole motherboard and chip don’t you? It’s like that with am motherboards
No_Guarantee7841@reddit
Just need motherboard change, not cpu. 14400 supports both ddr4 and ddr5.
Karkinosu@reddit
That’s like building a whole new pc, though. It’s basically changing the skeleton on a prebuilt. Definitely not worth it, and if you’re buying those parts anyway, why not keep the significantly faster ram? 32GB DDR5 > 64GB DDR4
No_Guarantee7841@reddit
Not when using just a 5050, thats for sure. And swapping to a same chipset different ram type board certainly doesnt feel like building a new pc. In fact its probably gonna cost cheaper compared to a ddr5 board.
Karkinosu@reddit
But it’s a prebuilt. There’s already a DDR5 board. You’re just buying another motherboard and then you’re stuck with that (and good ddr5 ram too) that no one will likely want because it’s from a prebuilt. That’s literally a waste of money if you’re already getting the superior DDR5 ram in the prebuilt. Who buys something and then makes it worse intentionally? The price of the prebuilt does not change because you want to put another part set into it.
No_Guarantee7841@reddit
Well, he didn't mention it was a prebuilt and whether he already bought it, at the time of my original message...

Literally a reply to like the second comment I saw on the post lol
No_Guarantee7841@reddit
That's 1h after my original message.
Karkinosu@reddit
So just downvote everything I said as if that still invalidated my original points. Ok 👍
misteryk@reddit
*and change mobo to the one supporting DDR4

The 5050 is pretty weak. If you spend a little more you can get a much better 5060 or even a 9060 XT
Far_Telephone_8655@reddit
I still got a 3rd gen i5 😭 it'll be good
puchi2701@reddit
https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/ it seems like you are from germany https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/47KNck
QuadSplit@reddit (OP)
I got you link to work now! It's for half the price on sale now pre-built compared to the cost stated by the link.
Riipp3r@reddit
Yeah no. That pc is not worth 1400 euro.
Weekly-Bluebird-4768@reddit
I will say one thing to be careful with when buying pre-builts, depending upon the company, they tend to cheap out on side components which may result in needing to replacing or upgrading those parts earlier. The main two I usually see cheaper out on are SSDs and PSUs, which failure of such can be catastrophic.
QuadSplit@reddit (OP)
Okey. I've never changed a PSU. Is it hard?
I can handle an SSD upgrade and I want to give him 1-2 TB extra storage anyways
Weekly-Bluebird-4768@reddit
It can be, especially a non modular, PSU, but if you have a modular one it’s should be pretty easy to remove and getting a modular PSU to replace makes the install pretty easy. With modular PSUs it might be on of the easiest component swaps, but if it isn’t it becomes quite a bit harder, because then you hav to unplug the power cables from all you components and snake them out with your PSU. But if it’s modular all you do is unscrew the PSU from the case unplug the cables from it, remember which cables were plugged into which spots and then plug them in the same spots on the new one, and screw it in.
QuadSplit@reddit (OP)
Nope.
puchi2701@reddit
you are from usa?
QuadSplit@reddit (OP)
Europe
puchi2701@reddit
austria?
Mravac_Kid@reddit
Depends on what he wants to use it for, but it's a decent computer especially for that price.
However, the 5050 is a pretty weak GPU, and will likely need upgrading pretty soon so keep that in mind.
giveUcancer@reddit
Ja, ist genuegend fuer 1080p aka. Full HD.
Possible-Peace2086@reddit
don’t need ddr5 and also don’t get fooled it’s not because it’s a 50 series that it will be better you can get one in the 40 or even 30 series who’s gonna be better and with more vram or just go to amd
TraditionalCut2044@reddit
firstly it depends on what games you would play rather than age , and i feel 5050 is ok bcz it can run modern games(although not at max or high settings) but yeah 5050 is good but if you could stretch you can go for 5060 or 9060xt
ButchLord@reddit
If it was my kid I would go with a 5800x, 16GB DDR4, 1TB ssd at least and 5060 8GB. I hope this will be useful to you.
Zealousideal_Side987@reddit
try to get 1 tb Storage minimum.
C0deC4tto@reddit
Get ddr4 ram and a ddr4 motherboard instead
Imaginary-Bench9824@reddit
for playing CS2 and fortnite, or any other competitve game, low/mid settings it is enough.
If the 14yo wants to play single player games with ray tracing, then you would need to upgrade, at least, to a 5060TI 16GB.
