Romania and western balkan countries (Slovenia and Croatia?) might join Visegrád Group soon. What do you think?

Honestly, these are pretty great news for us. We were rejected by Hungary back in 1990 and now we might have a chance to join V4.

Of course, but Slovenia isn’t. Like already said, Slovenia is culturally, historically, genetically and geographically Slavic country in Central Europe. And there’s nothing wrong with that. It doesn’t affect you and doesn’t make Balkan any lesser.

No. Slovenia is not North Balkan.

West Balkan is a geopolitical region so not comparable to what you’re trying to do here.

Slovenia is geographically above rivers Kupa, Sava and Danube which form the northern border of Balkan, and therefore isn’t part of this region.

If Slovenia never was in Yugoslavia no one would even consider placing it in Balkan in whatever sense.

You do know what peninsula is, Slovenia is literally on Balkan peninsula, there is nothing central about Slovenia. Slovenia has like 5% of Alps therefore it's not quite right saying that Alps are fully in Balkan, it just ends there.

First of all Balkan is not a real peninsula.
Second of all Slovenia is literally not in Balkan. The most northern border are rivers Kupa, Sava and Danube. So it is geographically impossible that Slovenia is in Balkan.

The original Visegrád pact dates back to 1335. Castle Visegrád is where the kings of Hungary, Czechia and Poland met to discuss a new trade agreement that'd circumvent Vienna and get around the Austrians's meddling with trade routes.

It was used as the inspiration for the new V4 group to revive closer trade cooperation, with the addition of Slovakia as the 4th member (because they exist now).

Would be quite ironic if Austria ended up joining.

You have Bucharest 9 for that. There are dozens of inter-country associations like that that may or not may work out, what would a bigger V4 do better that other formats don’t do at the moment? Regardless, it is just populism for hungarians. Romania tried to enter V4 back when the format actually had a purpose and was more viable, and we were rejected from what i remember. No reason to join now when V4s reputation has gone through the mud.

Agreed. The Three Seas Initiative has been more fruitful over all, it makes more sense, its reputation is clean and from the Croatian perspective at least, it is in our strategic interest. In fact Croatia co-founded the initiative with Poland.

The previous incarnation of the Visegrad Group turned into a group that was intended to prop up the power of Poland in conflict with Germany. This is something Slovenia and Croatia were not interested in joining. Croatian and Slovenian governments forged strong ties with France, so they had no interest in these moves. The new Slovenian PM was an Orban ally, so it is even more questionable what interest he might have in joining Magyar in this initiative.

Like, maybe, dunno, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Macedonia could form a union of some sort.
