Currently running a Ryzen 7 7700 + ASRock RX 9070 XT Monster Hunter Wilds edition on an LG C4 42” OLED (4K), and I’m considering doing a sidegrade to a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 9070 non-XT.
I can sell my current GPU locally for around $620, which is almost enough to buy a brand new Nitro+ 9070 non-XT here in SEA, so financially it’s more of a near-even swap.
The problem is I’m having a hard time deciding because there are barely any reviews for the 9070 non-XT Nitro+ specifically.
Right now, my 9070 XT thermals are kind of mediocre. It reaches 94-96C at stock setting while I managed to keep it down around 84-88C with my current tuning. I also almost never run it fully stock and usually undervolt + power limit it to around 220–245W anyway, so performance ends up closer to stock 9070 XT / heavily OC’d 9070 non-XT territory.
From what I’ve seen, if I OC the non-XT Nitro+, it might end up performing very similarly to my current undervolted setup anyway, while potentially having:
- better cooling
- lower noise
- better aesthetics (subjective, but I really prefer the Nitro+ look/build)
- possibly better overall build quality
For context:
- I mainly play at 4K on the LG C4
- I already have an ATX 3.1 PSU, so the connector setup is not an issue
Pros of switching:
- Better cooler and likely quieter operation
- Prefer the Nitro+ aesthetics/build quality
- Similar real-world performance to my current tuned setup?
- Near-even trade financially
Cons:
- Still technically a downgrade from XT -> non-XT
- Might end up being mostly an expensive “upgrade itch” sidegrade
- Not sure if I might regret the swap later since there are almost no reviews for the exact Nitro+ non-XT model
Would you guys make the swap, or just keep the 9070 XT and wait for a more meaningful future upgrade?

I mean, if u like the look more and u understand that u will likely take a performance hit sure, but Id strongly suggest getting a more meaningful upgrade later

Thanks! It seems like most people here are more focused on the performance side without really factoring in the aesthetics and the fact that I also mentioned I prefer the look of the Nitro+ card more and willing for a little compromise. But I guess I’ll just wait for a more meaningful upgrade later on.

This is 100% a downgrade.

Waste of time and money since you already lowered power limits down to 9070 tier.
The Asrock cards don't have the best cooling but you should not run that hot unless your hardware is getting hotboxed from a lack of airflow. I would guess that it is a combination of poor case selection and/or placement in some crappy TV cabinet that looks pretty but traps all the hot air.

Could it also be possible that your case doesn’t cool itself very well? I say this because I had a similar setup as a buddy but with a different case. My GPU ran 10+ degrees cooler.

Why not just undervolt and underclock your XT a bit? Should still be a fair amount faster than the non XT and no hassle for sales.

No point... wait for a meaningful upgrade.

Are you talking core temps or hotspot? Try these settings -500mhz boost offset , -30% PL and -100mV ,
Slottr@reddit
You're coming out negative in basically any meaningful aspect
