Worst thing about being in 50s

Mine is never-ending battle with nose hairs. I keep pulling them out, and that often leads to nasal infection.
StillHotPants9@reddit
The fact that I need to keep adding more exercise, more supplements to feel sort of close to how I felt 15 years ago, just rolling out of bed. And that I pay for it if I stay up as late as I used to! The maintenance is definitely a thing.
Luggage-of-Rincewind@reddit
At 42 I was in the best shape of my life, now in my mid 50s, I’m just a shape (pear).
StillHotPants9@reddit
It is never too late to get back on the exercise horse! 🐎 I have fallen off, gotten back on, repeat, still worth it. It is frustrating that it isn’t as easy as it was at age 42, though, right?? My goal is to never ever have to ask for someone to help me put my own clothes on for me because I can’t! Or not get stuck when bending over to pick something up, just a big nope .
Luggage-of-Rincewind@reddit
You’re right. I must get back to it. At 43, I was benching 315lbs - 3 sets of 12. Last time I was there I struggled with 135lbs with the same sets.
My knees won’t let me run like I did even a year ago (10k a day on a running machine). Slippers and one of those zip up body blankets is next for me! 🤣
There’s always next summer right! 😉
StillHotPants9@reddit
Ha ha, don’t you hate that? Strange creaky noises that come from normal movements?
Charming-Insurance@reddit
This is a whole other level post menopause. I take so many medications just to be able to sleep again. Estrogen, progesterone, testosterone… I feel like a pharmacy lately.
WolfPacker01@reddit
But to me it’s been worth it. Until last year I’d forgotten what it was like to sleep soundly or for more than four hours a night.
Charming-Insurance@reddit
100% worth it! I just started progesterone, after realizing no one had a good reason for not prescribing it me when I started estrogen a decade ago (hysterectomy). It’s only been a month but I just increased it last night. It’s kicking in! I’m hopeful my 3 am rituals will be a thing of the past.
ConversationOk470@reddit
My arm cracked when I reached for the phone to “like” your comment. Sigh
StillHotPants9@reddit
Ha ha, don’t you hate that? Strange creaky noises that come from normal movements?
Snarky-Spanky@reddit
Lately I find myself REALLY missing the 80’s and 90’s. I miss the simplicity and the fun I had in my prime. It’s depressing to reminisce. Like they say… “Those were the days.”
Oh, and menopause is so much worse than I ever imagined.

Karenmdragon@reddit
My kidneys failed. I need a dialysis and now have a transplant.
valiumblue@reddit
Same. Starting dialysis soon. Hooray.
Karenmdragon@reddit
Life support. Not fun. Dialyze to live, don’t live to dialyze. It’s really hard because it kind of takes over your life, but there’s still things to enjoy while being alive. Family, pets, a really good movie or book. Get on a transplant list if you can. You are eligible for transplant once your GFR is 20 or below you do not have to wait to be on dialysis to get a transplant. If the waiting list is long near you, you can go to another location. Keep in mind you have to stay there about two months post transplant. You can usually be listed at more than one transplant center to increase your chances of getting a kidney sooner.
Hot-Macaron-9984@reddit
Right there with ya. Did 10 years of peritoneal dialysis and finally got a kidney last October.
On a lighter note, ear hair drives me crazy!
Karenmdragon@reddit
I was on in-center dialysis for 11 months and three weeks. I went to the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, and therefore waited less than a year for my new kidney.
RealityBus@reddit
This is terrible, good luck with everything

Comfortable_Sea634@reddit
I was a candidate for a total knee in my mid 40s, but the doc said I was too young. I finally had it done in '23 (55yo) and WOW! Wish I'd pushed for it sooner, for sure

beek7425@reddit
Yup. Can’t sit comfortably on the floor or kneel comfortably either. Although it’s my back more than my knees. We had mandatory CPR training at work and being on the floor killed my back and knees.
Bob_12_Pack@reddit
I was getting to where I couldn’t squat for more than a few seconds. I started taking turmeric with my daily vitamins and my knees seem to be getting better.

Chin hairs or goat hairs as my mom would call them. I don't go anywhere without tweezers ugh.
One_Hour_Poop@reddit
"Pull"? That's fkn bizarre. Why don't you just trim them? Either with tiny grooming scissors or battery-powered nose hair trimmers? Painless and no infections.
PS: I've had a nose hair problem since i was 14, but back then I'd only have to do it every few months. Now it's every few weeks.
F-stop_Fitzgerald@reddit
More boomer like talk. Gen X in name only.
This is the worst sub ever. This sub and AI will single-handedly change the description of Gen X by being a source. You whiny, antiquated out of touch boomers were never cool nor liked and have decided to keep it up now that you’re 50.
KrofftSurvivor@reddit
Tell us you're terrified of aging without telling us you're terrified of aging... Suck it up buttercup we all get there
InterestingHippo7524@reddit
I don't think he sounds like he's terrified at all. You sound like a whiny boomer with the "suck it up buttercup" crap. How original.
KrofftSurvivor@reddit
Sure, you keep telling yourself that.
F-stop_Fitzgerald@reddit
You've really got the zingers. One might say that you have the gift of gab. Did you study insult comments in college? I'm putting together a Roast next month, maybe you'd like to participate, maybe host?
Tell me you're 87 and retired from insurance sales without telling me that you're wearing Sketcher slip-ins while you wax your Oldsmobile.
KrofftSurvivor@reddit
You're never going to make the comedy circuit like that kiddo.
F-stop_Fitzgerald@reddit
I'm only replying to you because I think you really enjoy the attention that you're getting here and not getting from your wife.
This is a pity comment so you can get that little notification bell here. Think of it like an elderly parent in an old folks home complaining about their kids never visiting - your bucket list item.
KrofftSurvivor@reddit
Yes, I'm sure it's pity that keeps you droning on...
InterestingHippo7524@reddit
Another great boomer comeback
F-stop_Fitzgerald@reddit
Absolutely not at all terrified, but you all sure are. I don’t give any fucks. You were 52 at 23.
InterestingHippo7524@reddit
Agree with you there. This sub can be insufferable at times. I have my complaints at times but I swear some people here just revel in growing old unhappy. I am 51 but feel 30, honestly. Physically, emotionally, mentally.
F-stop_Fitzgerald@reddit
It's very perplexing. This sub comes up for me all the time and just shows me old people yelling at clouds and it's very off brand. I'm with you 100%. I'm fitter than I was in my 20s, and I was fit then. I never got fat. I refuse(d) to get stuck in my ways or of my "time". You only live once. I don't understand this road map of Boomerism as the way. People in their 50s were old, but that's not the case for 50 somethings now. It's old person thinking and were just not. Nobody but the people in this sub think that way.
SaveDMusician@reddit
I am with you! I do not feel this old, what are so many GenX just allowing this?
I just can't figure out if no one exercises?
F-stop_Fitzgerald@reddit
I think it's the contingent who not matter when they were born will always be a Boomer. Remember those guys in high school who looked and acted like your dad? Went to college, gained 47 pounds, got married and had 3-4 kids and at 25 took on the old person's "I don't care what anyone thinks i want to be comfortable" attitude while imbibing copious amounts of alcohol and red meat.
SwissTanuki@reddit

Right now.it's my stiff hips. I'm beginning to think it's from years at an office job. I have a sit-stand desk, and decided today to keep it in the standing position.
FortheloveofSuki@reddit
Bad knees; trying to get a job after losing the one you had for 15 years; getting fat for doing nothing different than you've done your whole life; reduced libido; worrying about colon cancer, shingles, and a variety of other ailments; losing parents and other loved ones... just to name a few. One answer wasn't enough.
Mariacakes99@reddit
Shingles sucks soooooo bad!!! The fuckin vaccine didn't do squat for me at all.
FortheloveofSuki@reddit
I heard the vaccine is a rough one. But I still need to get it.
Mariacakes99@reddit
It triggered a shingles outbreak for me. I started having outbreak in my mid 30's. Prolonged stressful situations trigger it for me. I don't know if that has something to do with why the vaccine doesn't appear to have worked for me.
Good luck!
FortheloveofSuki@reddit
I had chicken pox twice (yes, I'm one of those rare people who had a light case of chicken pox when I was 4 yrs old and then a major case when I was 12.) I also had a "no take" reaction to the smallpox vaccine when I was a toddler. I don't know if any of these odd reactions (or lack thereof) would have on the shingles vaccine. Curious if anyone here has any thoughts.
HRLawyer2006@reddit
The vaccine did nothing for me as well. Shingles truly sucks!!!

I was going to post my own, but this basically covers it.
Nothing is super wrong. But I can feel the aging for the first time. I'm not quite as fast. Not quite as quick mentally. I can feel my knees - they don't hurt, but I never even noticed them in the past. Now I do. I can feel how I process foods and drinks changing.
I know where this is ultimately going.

I’m sure you’re getting the best of care and support. But just in case…. I watched an interesting show the other day called Spotlight on Ch7 in Australia. About women’s health. It said that lifting heavy weights for 30 mins twice a week can make a massive difference to bone density. Maybe have a chat to your medical professional about it.
MsPrpl@reddit
SO MUCH THIS!
And don’t think heavy weights mean those big metal plates you see guys loading on a bar. Start with what’s reasonably heavy for you, whatever that means, 5, 10 lbs, doesn’t matter. Just do it 3 times a week.
Look into it, you will not regret it. < 3
7GrenciaMars@reddit
Thank you! I was just diagnosed recently, and since my most recent injury (broken hip) was in February, I am still working with a physical therapist who told me that using weights will help, and fortunately I have some. But I appreciate the help. I'm still at my exercises and improving. I just hate that I have 2 breaks and a knee in a horrible state of disrepair from this nonsense. 😁

Okay, I just recently got a full hormone check and found out that my cortisol is very low. I've started on an adrenal cortex supplement and it's helped so much! That and progesterone at night (I'm 54F and in PERIMENOPAUSE, sorry my phone only knows how to yell that word). Anyway I recommend getting it checked if you can!!
warrior-flock@reddit
What adrenal supplement are you taking?
MrsHorrible@reddit
Adrenal Cortex from One Peak Medical. I think it was $16 for a 60 day supply. My doctor's practice sells it, but she also told me if I need to get it elsewhere that the Thorne brand Adrenal Cortex is also one that's known to be made to rigorous standards.
The goal by taking it (first thing in the morning, which is when your cortisol should be the highest) is to help my body remember how to make it, and then hopefully it'll regulate itself after a while. Apparently, this reduction in cortisol is really common for anyone who dealt with a lot of stress - you can kind of burn out your adrenal system to where it just doesn't respond the same anymore. Fingers crossed that it works - but even if it's something I take long term, I'm still happy with feeling better.
sffood@reddit
That word ought to always be yelled.

Where do I start.. being invisible to men (I'm a woman). I used to get stared at everywhere I when I was young(er) and beautiful. Longing for the past and dreading the future. That's just the start of a long list.
this_kitty68@reddit
I feel this. I don’t mind too much because most of that attention is unwanted anyway, but now I’m just a ghost. Totally invisible to other people. Of any sex. It’s so weird.
No_Letterhead6883@reddit
I especially feel this at work. I have a couple of other women my age that are busy acting like mean girls, but to the younger ones Im invisible. I do t have too many men at work except the surgeons. Parents/In-Law parents reverting to children. So far this year I have two fall and break hips - which requires 2-3 weeks of personal care , one new hip for pain relief, + 2 new knee last winter, one dementia, eye surgery, endless appointments, minor car crashes. It seems like every weekend is sitting in hostiptals, attending appointments, washing cleaning, transporting. All with the added pleasure of bad tempered, grumpy, 80 year old children lecturing me about what I should be doing better and how Reform are great, whilst worrying who is going to do all this for me in the future (no kids) .
This while taking a few cancerous hits as I run 'snipers alley' myself. (That period from 55-65 where heart disease, cancer, strokes are highest risk)

My dad had his first heart attack at 44. He had bipass surgery at the time. He lived another 20 years, passing when I was almost 26.
My husband had a heart attack three years ago. He was 56. He had blockage in three arteries. We are super lucky he's still here. He and I have family friends who were our age and passed due to heart attacks.
My brother had spent all his adult life working to protect his heart health. He didn't eat red meat. He ate lots of vegetables. He ran every day and biked all the time. He was the picture of health. But last August he was diagnosed with bile duct cancer. He passed this January.
My takeaway from all this is that the only certainty I have is my eventual death, and I don't know when that will be. I'd like to think I'm going to live another 40 years, but I could be gone today. I need to live accordingly. There are no guarantees

To the OP, get it waxed. Hurts like a bitch, but a nasal Brazilian is a beautiful thing
ThatMichaelsEmployee@reddit
I wax out the nostrils and ears (maybe 1/4" inside) every 10-14 days. Everyone believes ripping out one single nostril hair will instantly lead to a fatal brain infection because that's what they were told when they were young (the TRIANGLE OF DEATH!) but I've been doing it for over three decades and I'm fine. "Nasal Brazilian" is very good.

The loneliness because dating is hard at this age.
UltimateDonny@reddit
I split from my wife of 20+ years. I tried dating it was really hard. I went after women in their 30’s at first . Was not comfortable at all. A woman I had been friends with online who I grew up with wound being the best match in the world. For a long time we had been friends on facebook. We always commented over the years about each others stuff. Turns out we knew a lot about each other and it just fit perfectly. She’s a few months younger than me. She was always part of my friend group as kids. We both moved away at the same time. Facebook was the connection. Look for someone like that in your life. I raised a family with a woman who made my life painful. Now I have what is the closest thing I could have as a soulmate.
Dixieland_Insanity@reddit
I appreciate the suggestion. I left my home state shortly before I turned 20. I don't have those kinds of connections. I was always working and didn't have a social life.

I give up, have a relaxing smoke and spend the evening nodding at my husband as he moans and groans about his aches and pains and what specialist appointment is next.

My wife and I went to a concert a couple months ago. Long show with the third act being who I wanted to see. My wife's first concert in years. I spoke with the band before the concert (I'd met them before, but not my wife) and then stayed after to chat again. From start to finish our nite was almost six hours. My wife was miserable and furious which made me furious and miserable.

G_Town_Co@reddit
Maybe I’m just lucky, but after the year of 2017 (a year of hard, intense therapy to address some painful childhood issues) my fifties are fucking fantastic. I’ll be 58 in less than one week & I’m really looking forward to my sixties. Giving up the heavy boozing, drugging & running around of my early 20’s gave me a bit of a physical one-up. Having a very small close group of friends who have my back & who have mine - being needed & appreciated is a real reward - is the gift that gives back. Still being with the one person who I still truly love for 30 years is the greatest thing I’ve ever known. Sure, a few aches & pains. Stretching every day, staying off the sofa & getting at least some walking and light lifting keeps me in decent shape. Getting away from the obsession of “old” is crucial for me. I don’t think I have ever felt as good mentally, emotionally, physically & socially as good as I do now. I am comfortable with myself, my wrinkles, my somewhat faded eye sight & the drug store readers I rely on, the white hair I have in my beard, etc. I don’t even mind the once every two year colonoscopies (don’t love the prostate exam though, I wish that could be combined with the colonoscopy while I’m knocked out 😳). Every day I wake up feeling good is another day I’m thankful for. And that positivity is what keeps me on the right track.
According_Check_1740@reddit

LPT , go get your nostrils waxed
G_Town_Co@reddit
Again, dermatologists will tell you not to pull the hairs out of your nose. Waxing does exactly that. It pulls the hair and the follicle out of your skin inside your nose and it is very easy for that to turn into an ingrown, infected hair follicle. Trim the hair if it is a bother.
Yorbayuul81@reddit
If that’s the worst thing you’re experiencing by being in your 50s, you’re crushing it
qriousqestioner@reddit
True. Which is the point. The baseline is you're starting to notice signs of it going lower.
G_Town_Co@reddit
Any dermatologist (or any doctor for that matter) will tell you to NEVER pull hairs out of your nose because they can very easily become ingrown and then, yes, infected. There are scissors designed with soft edges to trim those hairs with ease. There are also those tiny round razor devices designed to go into the nose to shave those pesky hairs close enough so as not to not be seen but not grow back under the skin of your nose. Dude, DON’T PULL YOUR NOSE HAIRS OUT!
youngkpepper@reddit

I think for me, (or it’s a guy thing) is getting distracted by something else.
If I’m in the house doing chores, I’ll start something…but I’ll turn around and see something else, judge in my head that it has more severity and should get my attention/priority. I’ll move to that. I used to not do that.
Also video games…I used to be so focused on finishing the game I started. Now? I’ll have a long run, but then I’ll drop it and maybe play something else. Sometimes it takes months to maybe a year before I’m back to the game I was playing. I feel like the last game I really went and gone through it non-stop was Horizon Zero Dawn.
I still have:
- Silent Hill 2 Remake
- Fatal Frame 2 Remake
- Persona 3 Remake
- Persona 5 Royal (I got stuck on the Okumura boss battle and I can’t seem to get past it so I’m feeling like I have to start over)
Also in gaming, my right thumb can’t handle long gaming sessions anymore. If I keep playing, I’ll get Gamers thumb severely to the point that I’ll need a shot in the wrist.

I've only done 2 myself. Viking appeals to older people. They don't allow anyone under 21 and I'd say the average age is in the 60s. There were a number of people on my cruises with serious mobility issues, although my first post was an exaggeration. They have excursions that cater to different activity levels, so I think everyone gets off the boat at least a few times. They go pretty much everywhere in Europe and they have a big presence in Asia now too. I've been satisfied with the cruises I've done, but I don't think I'll do another. My sister has a friend with a long, sad medical history. He would call every 3 days, days divisible by 3 3, 6, 9, etc.) just to check in that he was ok. He missed a call, she called him repeatedly for 24 hours. I convinced her on the 2nd day to call the police for a welfare check. He was ok; his phone died and he'd had a cold and was napping on and off.
It happened again a year later and he...wasn't ok. But because of the calls it didn't take long to find him.
So what I'm saying is make a plan with a friend, stick to the plan. Even if it's just a text every few days saying good morning, make a plan.

If your insurance will cover Zepbound, talk to your doctor. I started taking it for weight loss but it’s a freaking miracle drug. No more arthritis pain. No more swollen joints. No more high blood pressure. No more inflammation. No more sleep apnea. No asthma attacks. I went from needing 14 prescriptions to taking 2. And one of those is for cholesterol- which has been steadily decreasing.
I’m telling you that this drug is a life saver for me. It’s worth it even if you have to pay out of pocket or get a compounded version online.
Just look into it
Appropriate-Issue-73@reddit
Thanks! Dr and I are in 3 weeks to talk about weight loss. I'll do my research and have questions ready. Had surgery last week and actually feel better (even tho I'm early stage). I have infusions for gout, and it's helped the arthritis some. Neuropathy hides some of the pain - probably why I had zero pain or discomfort, even the day of surgery. I sleep great, and my labs/vitals are perfect.

Capital_Pea@reddit
COLONOSCOPIES!!!! Can’t stress this one enough. My mom died of colon cancer at 48 in the 80’s when they weren’t a routine test you could get. She likely would have been saved by one when she had symptoms (was given pain killers and told it was ‘early menopause). And don’t do the mail in test, get an actual colonoscopy, it’s really not that bad.
cherrylpk@reddit
Second this. The mail in test wouldn’t have caught my cancer. Had I had the colonoscopy at 45, it would have been easily removed as a polup. But at 50, it was a 12 cm tumor and I had to have a section of my colon removed. I’m ok, in remission. But please, I’m begging you, get the colonoscopy as early as they will let you. Colon cancer is preventable.

But I do have a perspective because I have a slowly progressive disease / disability and last year moved into a supported independent living community that is mainly senior citizens with apartments for younger disabled people. The average age here is 80 so at 50 I am one of the youngest residents. One of my neighbors told me I am a “young chickie.” I have come to appreciate my “youth” but also recognize the benefits of my older neighbors’ life experience. Being reminded of my age. I don't look or feel like I'm 50. Shhh... I'll continue.....
caligirllovewesterns@reddit
My husband is turning 50 the end of July. Thankfully I’m still young and fall under the Millennial age group and I’m in good health. I will say, in the past year my husband has physically aged and time and his work has taken a toll on his body and mental health. He’s worked construction jobs his whole life and has depended on physical labor for his income for the majority of his life now. He is finding out the hard way that being in construction and depending on one’s physical capabilities to survive these days will NOT cut it in the job market. I keep telling him physical labor (mixed with some small health problems of his) will only cause him bigger problems in the future. His work is aging him and he needs to consider a different career path at this point. He is smart and has every ability to get his own Construction License in a lot of different categories due to his work experience. He could then run his own business and have the younger generation do the physical labor while he manages from behind. He is stubborn and refuses to do so because he “doesn’t want to be stuck behind a desk all day and “hates doing paperwork”.
I gave him the ultimatum as “do you want to be in your 50’s and on government disability, sitting on the couch all alone (because I will NOT be around for that) all due to your body being wrecked and injured and no place can hire you OR do you want to bow out of your physical labor career with dignity, get your licensing, run your company and stay healthy making your OWN money behind a desk! At 50 age can ONLY be a number for so long, and that all depends on keeping up ones health and knowing when to be careful with ones physical health. When one ages it takes longer for one’s body to heal.
Junior_Lavishness_96@reddit
I feel him lol. I’ve been a mechanic for 30 years and yeah I’m really over it. I’m trying not to regret it but I need something lighter and more indoors. I don’t mind computer work or paper pushing but I just don’t want to be in charge of people lol
Fluid-Tip-5964@reddit
Hit him with "work smarter, not harder". That means 50/50 office/field position. 100% desk job might kill him (seriously) but using his experience to bridge the gap between office and site is the key. Inspector, project manager/coordinator, health & safety officer, sales...all of those positions benefit from real experience, can pay better, and should have much less physical demand.

Not being able to eat spicy foods without having a fucked up stomach 30 minutes later.
PRC_Spy@reddit
Don't pull them. You already found out why.
Use some beard clippers and clip them short just inside the nostrils. That way they don't poke out in an unsightly fashion, but don't ingrow and get infected.
I get stupid long fuzz on my earlobes as well. I reckon the hair that stops growing on our heads just migrates elsewhere. And particularly to where it isn't wanted.
Team503@reddit
You can buy dedicated nose/ear hair trimmers for like $10. Works MUCH better than clippers for this kind of thing, and you can't cut yourself.
https://www.amazon.com/Nose-Hair-Trimmer-Clipper-Battery-Operated/dp/B098NSHBQK/ref=sr_1_6?crid=1ELXDHP2OH17Y&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Zsp65mQGf5BGpc38vNcrhjDVJH5Ub3ioCPHQQOHSCQf5OuG76EOCRMBZGVLMRa85449Qmm16I2kfMIvoCEa8DLj2hX0XbhpnyZEpi0028f5s_kOpA1MeK8cJHM8tLurVgdtaXwJCQEYHUu_NtDQ8eDKQxwQVWtGSei7EaxMoMITI6LG9u2ST-pmUVVSxP_N4CjIBLtnuJeLhB86yjcB8199IM7u8w3rbn5UcuvqqNzlOaQVqkgvI2Z9116J4MITJ2Yl2-toa4kB7KlleJNMAGiEUpho47IjiADefeNmmUd8.kzyHSMu-bSRVcp6I9o6ePzks1x9-b4Mag-9Jlr18aZM&dib_tag=se&keywords=nose%2Bhair%2Btrimmer&qid=1779674399&sprefix=nose%2Bhair%2Btrimm%2Caps%2C349&sr=8-6&th=1
I do not recommend that specific product, it's just an example of the type of product.
PRC_Spy@reddit
When I tried that kind of clipper, I got infected ingrown hairs. Shearing them off at nostril level with a beard trimmer doesn't cause that. For me.
YMMV, but it makes me hesitant to recommend that kind of clipper.
Team503@reddit
I don't understand how it caused ingrown hairs. Those are trimmers that cut the nose hairs, not pull them out of your nostril. Were you literally taking the trimmer and rubbing it against your nose on the inside? You're not supposed to do that - just put it in and move it around a bit.
I guess the only way I can imagine that happening is if you had one so old that the blades inside it had dulled and it was yanking them out instead of cutting them?

Doctors fucking suck!
regular_gonzalez@reddit
I'm no doctor and there's a million types of arthritis, but the two things that have helped most (other than aspirin / ben-gay) are a glucosamine + chondroitin+ msm supplement (takes a month to really start working but it basically halted the progression and even reverted it a bit) and testosterone therapy. Worth checking your test levels (free and total, not just total. Go to a men's health specialist if possible) and doing injections if your levels are low.
E: assuming you're male, ofc
Apart_Pineapple2392@reddit
Wow, in addition to being anti inflammatory it also looks like it lowers risk of colorectal cancer (CRC).

I've had the pillbox for a couple of years - it's actually not so bad because you don't have to think too hard about it. It does suck when you wake up and realize "oh yeah, I was supposed to refill the pillbox yesterday."
MisterFlyer2019@reddit
That the worse things that will ever happen to you are coming (unless you had a massive tragedy earlier - I mean no disrespect) and the time scale is getting shorter until they arrive.
Blaaamo@reddit
Getting dizzy after bending down isn’t very pleasant.
Igmuhota@reddit
Really, REALLY not enjoying that one. I had no idea how many times I bend over in an average day until blood pressure meds. My wife is a saint, but I swear she thinks I’m exaggerating. I wish I was.
tasata@reddit
Not a popular take probably, but I (56F) live in an area that is VERY family-oriented. When I was younger it was the norm to be single and not have kids...now it seems I can't have a conversation without it revolving around grandkids, kids, etc. I know I chose my lifestyle and I have no regrets, although losing my husband to cancer at 46 wasn't a choice...choosing not to repartner was/is though. Still, I don't feel old enough to join in senior single society and am too young to hang out with the 20-year-olds. Age is just a number and yet this is the first time in my life where I've really felt like I don't belong anywhere.
Elegant-Lemon126@reddit
I hear this. No kids here either. Thankfully, i hang out with people who have kids in college and don’t talk about them nonstop.
youngkpepper@reddit
Also no kids; I'm the last of the line on both sides of my family.
Everyone I hang out with is also childless or their kids are young singles, with the exception of one woman who decided she wanted a baby at 44. Fortunately she's pretty grounded and is well aware that the world does not revolve around her kid.

There's just more chores and busywork in general just to maintain everything. Housework yardwork paperwork maintenance of work certifications looking after retirement accounts and medical maintenance. There's just a lot more STUFF that needs to keep happening on a daily basis than I recall from my more simple life in my 20s. The more I do and the more i have, the more I need to keep track of.

Nose Picking Could Increase Risk for Alzheimer’s and Dementia - Neuroscience News
Plucking nose hairs can increase the risk of developing Alzheimer's by damaging the delicate nasal lining. This damage allows harmful bacteria to travel up the olfactory nerve directly to the brain, triggering inflammation and the buildup of amyloid-beta plaques, which are hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease.
Grasshopper_pie@reddit
My husband pulls out his nose hairs and I always tell him he shouldn't. I sent him your article. His mom has dementia so he's terrified of getting it.
I have a rechargeable trimmer that works well for my nose hairs without hurting the skin.
