super_scary_ferry@reddit
Friend bear was my favorite too!
Nicolas_yo@reddit
No Clifford?
super_scary_ferry@reddit
I wanted a real dog to name Clifford. So in 1987 (I was 7) my parents got me a Westie dog who I named Clifford! He ended up living to be 18! We were besties. Miss you Cliff, you were the best dog!
RyeValleyOpinions@reddit
Anyone remember Popples? I was obsessed with the one I had. Took it in the front basket on every bike ride.
xcarex@reddit
I’ve slowly been building out my Popple collection as a childless adult haha. I had two as a kid, and now I’ve got ten in varying sizes and styles (one sports, one baby Bibsy, and both rockstar Popples!)
honeybee7997@reddit
My mom still has mine.
So-Good-It-Hurts@reddit
I was just gonna say “mine was a Popple”
almondbuttered@reddit
I still have mine!
So-Good-It-Hurts@reddit
I did for so long, but I’ve moved so many times and no idea where it ended up 😔
almondbuttered@reddit
I’m so sorry.
RyeValleyOpinions@reddit
This was the one I had! I bought it with money I earned selling toys at a garage sale.
jaime_riri@reddit
Go look up how much a Popple is today
DaughterOfTheKing87@reddit
I did have this same Popple!! I tried to talk my kid into wanting one when she was little after I found an “unused” one on eBay. Now my kid is a teen, I’m kinda glad I didn’t get it because I can remember also hiding little liquor bottles in my Popple when I got to be a teen. Perfect hiding spot.
Welldonegoodshow@reddit
I had this popple too!
SLyndon4@reddit
I had that one too! No idea what happened to it.

Mauimoomoo@reddit
I had the same one!
urgonneedabiggerboat@reddit
I had the white Popple! I also had Teddy Ruxpin, Cabbage Patch Dolls, Care Bears, and even a Glowworm! The one I always wanted and never got was a Pet Monster. I swear I wasn’t spoiled, just a child of divorce lol
shitsu13master@reddit
I had the white one!!! And note how everyone here is saying which one they had… nobody is saying “I had 3”… that was part of the value as well: you only got to have the one and you loved it to bits
Subject-Direction628@reddit
Don’t even get me going on cabbage patch lol. I got the one with short hair. My mother got herself a long haired braid one.
I couldn’t play with it. wtf?
We don’t talk now. Needless to say
KelRen@reddit

davosknuckles@reddit
Yes! No one ever mentions or remembers these. Mine was yellow.
oblivious_nebula@reddit
I had a big blue popple. I loved that thing. And weirdly a regular ol goose puppet. That had a lil tab on its tongue that when you opened it it would honk and, ya know, make goose noises. When we moved a few states over my mother didn’t know that I loved the weird honking goose noises that puppet would make every time she turned out the lights. When we moved I looked for it. Box after box unpacked, and no goose. I only learned later she had gotten rid of it before the move. I’m still kinda sad. lol.
PlatypusDependent271@reddit
I had the football one and the basketball one.
0-spacecowboy-0@reddit

amberlicious35@reddit
I had Popples and loved mine. And then my mom and stepdad started rolling them down the hallway to my room at night after the movies Critters freaked me out.

Me and my friend were obsessed with troll dolls and had built elaborate houses for them and we would meet up after school to play with them. But by this point we were 13 and it was embarrassing, so it was a huge secret and we didn't tell anyone! I also gave all my trolls a bunch of tattoos with colored pens.
Available-Maize5837@reddit
I had allllllll the troll dolls. Still have a rainbow haired troll pencil topper I use.

volumesmiley@reddit
Whaatttt? There was a movie?
I may have seen it as a kid, but I have no recollection. My grandma bought me a Wrinkle and she had one for herself. Every time I went over to her house, I was so excited so that they could 'play' together.
OkCable8746@reddit
Yes!🤣 there was a movie! I had a flashback to it and decided to type it up yesterday to see if it was on the net and it is! Its on dailymotion .Its called Wrinkles:In Need of Cuddles from 86. When I was little I remember renting it at the local video store and watching it with my parents. so cute! Its only around 30 minutes long so its not a full length movie as my kid brain rememberd 😂 I want to say too that that is such a sweet and adorable memory with your Grandma!🥰
kteerin@reddit
Yes!! I would love to find a Wrinkles today!
StabbyMcStabsauce@reddit
I got these two on ebay. This was my brother's favorite stuffy when we were kids and I was SO JELAOUS.
When he was about to become a dad for the first time I went on ebay and found the same one he had as a child. I gifted it to him in a carseat at his baby shower. It was a good surprise.
Since I was already on ebay I grabbed one for myself finally! They're so cool!

kateastrophic@reddit

YeahBruhhhh@reddit
I came here to say GloWorm ❤️
rarepinkhippo@reddit
Oh man, this thread is taking me back. I definitely cherished my Pound Puppies, Care Bears (and Care Bear Cousins — the green lamb was my favorite along with Bedtime Bear), Popple (I had the white one with yellow hair and a blue stomach), Rainbow Brite horse and sprite dolls, Glo Worm, etc.
I also loooved a niche toy named LeMutt, a plush dog who wore train-conductor overalls and looked remarkably like a Labradoodle or Goldendoodle years before they took over suburban America lol.
I desperately wanted a Teddy Ruxpin but never got one — those must have been $$$, or else hard to find, because I DID get the ridiculous knockoff version called A.G. Bear, who didn’t speak and didn’t accept tapes, and his mouth didn’t move, but he DID have some sort of rudimentary technology that let him repeat back some metallic-robot version of the syllables you were saying. So if you said “hi A.G. Bear,” he’d go “rrr-rrr-rrr-rrr!” In retrospect, I love him more because he’s infinitely more absurd and could ONLY have happened in the ‘80s.
ohmeursault@reddit
We were too poor for a pound puppy so my mom made me one. i still have it
ohmeursault@reddit
rarepinkhippo@reddit
Honestly, that is way more special than the real thing!
ohmeursault@reddit
100% I didn't think it was when I was a kid because it wasn't the real thing but it's one of the only stuffies I kept from childhood. And now that I'm a mom I understand how special it really was/is
Key-Shift5076@reddit
Oh so sweet!! Your mom is talented, I couldn’t even attempt something like this. My mom got fabric paints and painted me a Little Mermaid shirt, it was the first movie I saw in theaters. Five kids so money was tight.
Expensive_Air965@reddit
I was obsessed with cabbage patch kids so much so that my aunt took me to Manhattan to go to the cabbage patch kids store to watch them be born. I also had Koosas. That was creepy. But I was also obsessed with my pound puppies But my real obsession when I was a kid were action figures. I had every Shira doll every He-Man doll, all of the My Little ponies. Any little person I could get my hands on because I would make storylines for all of them. It was like my own little soap opera all the time
meowwwza143@reddit
I was obsessed with Teddy Ruxpin and Cricket

detourne@reddit
Gonga Gorilla for me! But I just called him monkey.
ShinadaOtter@reddit
I've just started collecting these!
LatherRinseRage@reddit
They have these at Target!
saison257@reddit
Magic Nursery dolls. Kinda like Cabbage Patch kids but different. You couldn't tell if you were getting a boy or a girl - there was a card wrapped in dissolvable paper that would tell you if it was a boy or a girl after you dissolved it. You could also put a warm washcloth over their eyes and the eyes would "close", and if you kissed their cheek, a little heart appeared - it was a thermal thing kinda like the coffee mugs we have now that have messages that show up when the mug heats up.
Anyway, I had 2 of these and loved them!
spanishpeanut@reddit
Yes!!! I remember I was desperate to get a boy but wound up with girls. There was also a thing where a card could say “twins” and you’d mail it in for a second doll.
Wendy-Windbag@reddit
I had a friend spend $300 for one off of eBay a few years back so she could re-live this with her daughter. OF COURSE the inside card said "TWINS" which 30 years later was good for nothing. Apparently the odds for twins was 1 in 36.
spanishpeanut@reddit
That’s insanely low. Ha. Funny that it said twins, though. I’d be contacting the seller asking for the sibling.
ShinadaOtter@reddit
Aww I had one of these dolls!
Fragrant-Arm8601@reddit
Cabbage patch kids freaked me out! I had a My Child doll instead.
rarepinkhippo@reddit

Key-Shift5076@reddit

no_winkles@reddit
My grandma sold him in a garage sale when I was in college. 😭 I loved him so much.
rarepinkhippo@reddit
Oh man, I’m so sorry! I didn’t have this particular guy (he’s super cute though), but definitely have been confused as to where some of my favorite toys went, and my partner definitely had almost all of his favorite childhood things yard-saled. In my case, my mom gradually produced some boxes of stuffed animals, some of which I was really attached to and some I barely remembered, but my Rainbow Brite toys, Cabbage Patch doll, etc., seem to have mysteriously vanished (maybe my mom gave them for someone else’s yard sale or something, I know she never held her own).
I know it wouldn’t be the same, but have you considered finding one on eBay?
OmegaRainicorn@reddit
I have mine as well, I can still hear him say “Mm I love you too,” in my memories.
Itiswhatitis2009@reddit
I had this!!! When you pressed two different ones at the same time it made a funny noise. I still remember the sayings. “Hee hee heee heee that tickles” “mmmmmmm this feels good” “I love you” “ouch! That hurts”

I have taken old beat up ones and made customs with new paint & new hair, some custom wings and costumes too. I love bringing the sad ponies back to life!

In the early 80’s my great aunt at 75 had a thriving business sewing custom clothing for cabbage patch dolls . It’s funny looking back but 75 is like 95 now. Grandmas were old and used up at 65 then and now they can be sex symbols.

Alvin the Chipmunk. Was a gift for my first Christmas. I slept with that thing well into high school.
The very first sign people missed that I was autistic was the Alvin Alerts: any time I misplaced Alvin before bed became a goddamn emergency. I could not go to bed without him, period. Everyone in the house had to be involved.
This probably happened at least once a week.

Yup. It was picking up wireless phone calls. I remember so clearly this man was badgering my neighbors to sell their house to him because they were lesbians and “didn’t belong in the neighborhood”. It was the first time I realized how hateful people could be.
My Mom came in and was shocked that it was picking up the call. I was 6, my sister 4, and she left us home alone for the first time to go check on Terri and Diane. They were great neighbors and I regularly played with their daughter.

I wasn’t allowed to have these even though I asked REPEATEDLY after seeing the commercials and in the Penny’s catalog. Dad didn’t wanna explain “the facts of life” to his young daughter at the time, but what he didn’t know was I watched all episodes of “The Facts Of Life”, “Kate And Allie”, “The Kids In The Hall”, “Moonlighting”, “Magnum” and “In The Heat Of The Night” and granny let me watch “Days”, “Another World”, “Bold And Beautiful”, my aunt let me watch “A Different World” but we also watched “Father Dowling”, “Matlock”, “Mama’s Family” and “Designing Women”.

I had ALL of those except the My Buddy’s but I wanted them SO badly and my fam of assholes never got them for me. (Idk what that monster looking thing was, guess I don’t remember it?) I actually still had my Teddy Ruxpin and my Pound Puppy dolls, basically the only two things from my childhood that survived, up until last year when I took my kid and escaped my abusive soon-to-be-ex-husband, leaving all my belongings behind and I’ve yet to been able to retrieve anything. So, I doubt seriously if I still have my Teddy or Puppy. I did learn later in adulthood Dad’d refused to buy me a My Buddy or Little Sister doll because it reminded him too much of the Chucky dolls. Yeah, my dad’s a bit of a prick but he also knew I’d try to replace my actual younger brother with the doll. Funny tho, neither of us acknowledge or have spoken to the brother in more than a decade. He could’ve saved us both some trouble years ago just getting me the doll.

wooq@reddit
My favorite was a Cabbage Patch "Koosa" which were animal Cabbage Patch Kids, and you could send away for a label to put on their collar with the name of your choice. My mom got it for me when my dad was in the hospital with gallstones. I also loved my Popples, which were stuffed animals you could turn into a ball. One time I was playing catch with my grandma with my big white Popple and we broke a piece of their chandelier in the living room. Grandma glued it back together and we promised to not tell grandpa so he wouldn't get mad. When I was afraid of the dark, I'd set up my stuffed animals around the edge of my bed to protect me while I slept.

I also remember when I was really little getting a lady lovely locks doll where you snap the animals into her hair and I swear I lost it the same day I got it and I never got over that…
Also PJ Sparkles!
devour_feculence___@reddit
My mom was into sewing and she refused to buy me any brand name dolls, so she made me homemade Pound Puppies, Cabbage Patch, and Rainbow Bright dolls. Complete with elaborate clothing and hair.
They were really good. I appreciated them, took them everywhere with me, but in the back of my mind, I wondered if we were poor. Years later I realized we were NOT poor, and she just enjoyed doing homemade things.
minaretcrew@reddit
I still have a homemade Grams Bear from Care Bears. I just wish I could remember who made it!
junko_kv626@reddit
That’s so cool! I wish we could see the homemade dolls.
Also, love the name! My favorite Milchick quote!
SailorDeath@reddit
Pound Puppies all the way. They had so many different sizes too. I wanted the newborn ones because they were tiny. I loved the cartoon. Both the original 30 minute one-shot pilot and then later the syndicated TV series and even the movie. My parents were lucky I like those instead of the gigantic ones.
tasukiko@reddit
Glo Worm.
Ourobius@reddit
I had a weathered old Winnie the Pooh that came with a red vest but I tore it off early. For reasons obscured to everyone, I named him Isaac. From the ages of three to six, I refused to sleep without him.
OkEgg9334@reddit
Anyone remember SnuggleBums..
it_swims@reddit
I do now! The little shaky laugh thing. I enjoyed mine a lot!
OkEgg9334@reddit
Aww yes and they smelled lovely.. I'm sure they glowed when you gave them a squeeze.. I loved mine 💗
sravll@reddit
Oh my god. Seeing this gave me a visceral memory. I loved this thing
Realistic-Panda1005@reddit
Omg, I forgot about these!!!! We had a purple one!
it_swims@reddit
I don't remember mine glowing. Something about that texture of plastic still brings me tons of joy.
CaTz_EyE@reddit
I had a Teddy Ruxpin when I was little. When I was in kindergarten, I ended up in the hospital with a concussion from playing Duck Duck Goose, and I brought Teddy with me.
While I was sleeping, the nurses took him. I woke up and panicked when he wasn’t there, then went to the nurse’s station in tears and found them playing with him. They laughed and told me he was lonely and walked out to see them.
I know they probably thought it was cute, but I was so upset. It took me a while to trust nurses after that.
The concussion happened because a kid named Charlie cheated and changed directions while chasing me after I tapped his head and said “goose.” He slammed into me, and I hit my head on the tile floor.
SinnerSpawn@reddit
Mine was Patooty, a Huggabunch doll which came with her own baby Cushy. She was my sidekick for many years until my lil bro kicked her head off.
sravll@reddit
Aw, I had one. Forgot about these
ShinadaOtter@reddit
This looks so familiar, I think I had one!

I’d forgotten these!! They were cute!
spanishpeanut@reddit
I still have my American Girl doll. I got Samantha when i turned 10 because she had dark brown hair and eyes like me. Shes in my cedar chest along with most of her collection. My grandma was the one who gave me the big stuff every holiday — her bedroom set, her birthday set, etc. Everything is in good shape for the day i can pass her on to my own kids.
tyomax@reddit
Care Bears, Popoles, then a Troll!

None of those; I had a Glow Worm, and a Snuggle Fabric Softener bear.

I had a Wuzzle that was half seal/half moose. I called it Mooselini bc there was a miniseries on TV about Muselini the week I got it and I was a bit dumb.
Ryanookami@reddit
Ooh! I had a Pound Puppy, A Cabbage Patch Kid and a Care Bear. I also had a Popple, a Wuzzle, and a Gummi Bear.

RachelDesha@reddit
Teddy Ruxpin!

NaturalSpecialist5@reddit
I loved Pound Puppies! I had the little ones too that I believe Hardee's sold at Christmas? And pound Kitties.
Cabbage Patch Kids, I had around 10. My little pony, Strawberry Shortcake, Rose Petal and Friends, Holly Hobby, that little mermaid doll with her baby and they came with a floating sponge. Care Bears, Rainbow Bright, Polly Pocket, matchbox cars, my brother's Star War action figures from the 70s. Jem, Skipper was my favorite Barbie... I had about 5 different types.
Key-Shift5076@reddit
I was looking for a Rose Petal and Friends reference!! I just bought the daffodil one on eBay last month!

Rainbow Brite was my hero. I have grapheme synesthesia and chromesthesia and I couldn’t talk about those things without someone calling me crazy. But, in a way, Rainbow Brite understood colors were my world.
Also liked Jem. And the She-Ra horses.

I had that exact grey pound puppy on the left in the picture, and a kid sister too. I loved the show Teddy Ruxpin, but I never had the doll.
KBO_Winston@reddit
I want to post what I had (some of which I still have) but I think the real takeaway here is we really lucked out with quality hug-ables. Cheap enough to be pervasive but well-made enough that they still last, today.
Those poor other generations. I'll go observe a minute of silence under the Rainbow Brite clock in my bathroom for what they never knew they lost.

JoshSidekick@reddit
I had a Pound Puppy. It was the same kind as the cartoon so I named him Cooler. I also had 2 of the Pound Puppy Babies and named them Brownie and Peanut. I had them in a bag in storage for when I had my own kids someday, but there was a tear in the bag or something and they got infested in bugs so I had to throw them all out. That incinerator scene in Toy Story 3 really hits hard.

No contest for me, it's care bears. I still have the sunshine bear stuffed animal my mom got me back when they first came out and is one of my most deeply cherished possessions.
AquariusRising1983@reddit
I still have a huge collection of old school c.1980s/early 90s Care Bears, Pound Puppies, Rainbow Bright (stuffies not action figures), ShirtTales (if anyone else remembers the ShirtTales, I'd love to commiserate, most the time I bring them up people think I'm crazy!).
Also loved Strawberry Shortcake, My Little Pony (the OG ones, not the goofy big eyed reboot ones), Voltron, and He-man/She-ra. The Real Ghostbusters cartoon (the REAL ones, with Peter, Egon, Ray, Winston, Janine, etc, as opposed to that rip off Ghostbusters show that was forever showing up at the same time).
Man, I played with a ton of dolls and built entire worlds in my parents' basement so I could pickup my epic plot line later. I was an only child til I was 11, so I had a ton of imaginary friends, too. I wish my imagination was still that incredible..I could use an imaginary world that was less fucked than this one!

AurynW@reddit
Cabbage Patch Kids, 100%.
BabySlothDrivingFast@reddit
Yay! Definitely loved my Cabbage Patch kid. I gave mine 'braces' with a blue pen because I desperately wanted braces (never got them) and my mom was so mad at me.
AurynW@reddit
As someone who had braces (complete with rubber bands, an expander, and overnight head gear) from ages 12-16 count yourself lucky lol.
BabySlothDrivingFast@reddit
I do count myself lucky now- but I thought they were so cool back then. My 13yr old daughter is in the middle of a 3yr estimate of having braces (started the bands about 6 months ago) and absolutely hates them, so the universe got me on that one.
lexi_prop@reddit
Pound puppies all the way (before they got really cheap).

I had a Cooler/pound puppy theme for my 5th birthday in 1987 🐾

Subject-Direction628@reddit
Pound puppies for sure. The clothes has a tail hole to dress up my cats. And my purple popple
ali2911gator@reddit
I still have my care Bear! The second one in this picture with the rainbow. This and a very soft elephant that is rainbow like rainbow horizontal stripes. My kids use them now and know how much they mean to mean and they are so gentle and caring with them. It warms my heart.
littleyellowbike@reddit
No Care Bears in our house, but we did have a few Care Bear Cousins. Mine was Bright Heart Raccoon, my sister had Lotsa Heart Elephant, and my brother had Brave Heart Lion.
My sister and I also each had a Popple, and my brother had a set of Shirt Tales characters.

PickledPixie83@reddit
I had a pound puppy and a care bear: my doll of choice was “baby doll” some doll that was old when I got it, you pulled a string and she cried, her hair was all crazy plastic matted. She was kind of horrifying now that I think about it. I loved that horrifying thing.
olduglysweater@reddit
None because I was poor. Best I got was a hand made cabbage patch doll from the flea market.

I had an AG Bear. It was like an off-brand Teddy Ruxpin, but in a more classic teddy bear style, with a very lackluster name. It came with a voice box and would “talk” back to you in conversation, but the voice sounded more like adults in Peanuts cartoons

Popples…for a little while.
MissMomomi@reddit
Awww I had Teddy Ruxpin and Grubby! They connected with a cord so Grubby would speak, too. Teddy’s mouth was permanently stained because I tried to feed him a banana once.
I spent the most time with my My Little Ponies, favorite Lickety Split, and with any Ariel doll. I was actually banned from singing the “aaaAhh” from when her voice is taken in my dad’s presence because I did it nonstop.

Can't remember his name (and didn't want to get him out of storage) but it was a dog that had a squeeze activated mechanical voice box who would say his name and a few other phrases. Went from edc as a kid to pure nostalgia as I "agreed out" of it being cool to log around a stuffed animal everywhere.
SteveEcks@reddit
I had a Hush Puppy.
I had a Care Bear but my aunt made it, so it was a combination of worse and better.
I remember I knew someone with a Teddy Ruxpin, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't me?
I had the Glo Worm.
My waffle knit yellow blankie with the silky edges... I snuggled that thing for almost a decade.
codeprimate@reddit
Memory unlocked, crying because somebody gave me the care bear on the far left on my 5th or 6th birthday. I didn’t like dolls of any kind, not even teddy bears or GI Joe’s.
I was frustrated because I didn’t understand how to play with “people. I was a hot wheels and lego kid.

I had Care Bears. These days, I have a Stitch, a Scrump, and a Squirtle. I also still hold onto a toy triceratops that my in-laws got me during a hospital stay in 2019. I named him Turvy, because he's triceratopsy-turvy. My kid got me a stegosaurus toy about a year ago because it's our favorite dinosaur.
I think it's important not to give up all of the wonder of childhood.
