My mom just gave me these, found in the attic.

That Samantha worth big money.
Consistent-Ease6070@reddit
What are we talking? I may have one…
Green_Conclusion3443@reddit
I just sold my white body Samantha with meet outfit for $400.
zenigmatic@reddit
Wait really? My Molly kicking around somewhere
Green_Conclusion3443@reddit
That's nothing. My Kirsten was super rare and got me $2000.
thechosenfur@reddit
I have her. Was it just that she is rare in general or did yours have something particular about her that is rare?
Green_Conclusion3443@reddit
Mine was a first year release with a rare eye color. I had no idea until I posted a picture in a collectors group.
Significant-Boss-216@reddit
Say what now? How do we learn the rareness?
blessitspointedlil@reddit
I don’t know, they don’t look like they sell for more than a few hundred on eBay.
valleysally@reddit
Did you see Molly on antique roadshow?
SailNW@reddit
My pre-Mattel Felicity remains on display in my old bedroom!
MelpomeneAndCalliope@reddit
Felicity was my favorite American Girl. So jealous you got the doll.
PatchworkGirl82@reddit
Ooh, I always wanted Samantha! I think those early American Girl dolls are real collector's items now though
Expert_B4229@reddit
Samantha was the one I wanted 🥹
MaddyKet@reddit
Me too! Never got any :(
MelpomeneAndCalliope@reddit
Same. We were too poor. I got to look through the catalog when they sent it and pretend I could order stuff.
bokatan778@reddit
Same. I always wanted Molly, but the dolls were too expensive. I got the books though!
yayoffbalance@reddit
She was the best one
spanishpeanut@reddit
I have her, too!!!!
lazyrainydaze@reddit
Samantha Parkington was the exact doll I wanted as a kid! Never got her, of course way too expensive. I don’t know if my memory serves me correctly but doesn’t she have a wild backstory compared to the other American Girl Dolls?!
soomprimal@reddit
My sister had Samantha and maybe another one. Those were like $150 in the mid-90s, right? My sister played with them but always knew to take good care of them as well.
Plumeria9798@reddit
Yeah, they were about that. I would pore over the catalog and daydream. My family was fairly well off but my parents would never agree to spend that on a doll, especially since I was already almost a teenager, but I daydreamed about the whole catalog anyway.
Significant-Boss-216@reddit
My mom just gave me all my Samantha stuff ✋ I am not sharing with my children at this point 😅
SpookySchatzi@reddit
You’re lucky. My Mom gave away my Popple collection like the moment I left for college. 💔
dewihafta@reddit
Thought about buying one as an adult, just because i never got one as a kid.
Never did that, but i did purchase all of the original book series when i realized they were taking them out of circulation.
Only ones i dont have are Julie or the New Orleans girls. And the friends books.
Astrazigniferi@reddit
I didn’t realize they stopped selling the books! That makes me sad. Now I’ll have to keep an eye out for them at used bookshops.
jdsmith575@reddit
Check your public library if you just want to read them. Our system has most of the classic girls.
dlh412pt@reddit
I just donated all of mine to our local library. Probably could have sold them, but it makes me happy thinking that someone else will read them.
Extreme_Shop_4958@reddit
Wow. I had her & loved her. Thank you for this!! 😍
Ynot2_day@reddit
I have the same cabbage patch doll as the one in the pink! My aunt had to fight some lady at the store to get it, lol.
1877KlownsForKids@reddit
I found out years later my beloved cabbage patch doll Bob was just a knock off head.
nelmski@reddit
My grandma made mine, it had the funkiest not cabbage patch hair and weird eyes that were red in low light. I named her Christmas Day! And I was none the wiser!
Tia_Baggs@reddit
I loved Samantha! I remember my grandma taking me to the library so I could borrow American Girl Doll books and Samantha was my favorite. I begged my parents for a Samantha doll but no luck, my mom said she’d consider Kirsten but my heart was set on Samantha (should’ve taken her up on Kirsten though).
MaddyKet@reddit
And then traded her for a Samantha on the child black market 😹
CorgiMonsoon@reddit
Sometimes the clothes at the GapKids are just too flashy. So, I am forced to go to American Girl store and order clothes for large colonial dolls
MaddyKet@reddit
PilotC150@reddit
My wife has Samantha and loved them as a kid. She so badly wanted our girls to get into American Girl dolls, so we ended up buying a bunch of stuff. Fortunately it was the cheaper Target-brand “Out Generation”. My girls didn’t care about them though so we’ve just recently been starting to get rid of it all.
cafeteriastyle@reddit (OP)
I have boys and my 9 year old picked her up and immediately started trying to twist hurt foot around. I was like give me that
MaddyKet@reddit
😱 you must protect Samantha at all costs! 😹😹😹
ShamaLamaDingDong74@reddit
Okay money bags mcgee!
Beanz4ever@reddit
Samantha was my favorite too! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Complete_Bird1843@reddit
So you were a rich kid. Lucky, I’m glad you had those! I wanted them so bad. Samantha was my favorite.
cafeteriastyle@reddit (OP)
Not at all lol. Just an only child. I got these as gifts on Christmas and birthdays
Complete_Bird1843@reddit
Bro, I got shit on Christmas and birthdays. You just don’t know what a rich kid is bcz you were one.
cafeteriastyle@reddit (OP)
Sorry didn’t mean to be offensive. We lived on one income, with one beat up car, in an apartment in bumfuck Mississippi. My parents went out of their way not to spend money on themselves. I really wasn’t trying to be insensitive, I apologize. I never felt like a rich kid.
PaisleyParker@reddit
You weren’t being insensitive at all! That commenter is just being a jackass…and may be yanking your chain about her childhood poverty, to boot. Reddit is a weird place.
soomprimal@reddit
You don't need to apologize to a stranger who is trading much needed therapy for lashing out at you for daring to have a nostalgic moment, which is like half the point of this sub.
itcamefromspace42@reddit
Welp. TIL I'm old enough to be your mom. 🤣😭
MapleChimes@reddit
I had 1 American girl doll, Molly McIntire. I liked that she wore glasses.
theatredork@reddit
That’s why I wanted her! Glasses girl representation was limited then. I never got her, though. :(
Serialseb@reddit
Oh shit... Someone is going to die tonight.
dundeegimpgirl@reddit
I wanted a cabbage patch kid in the worst way but they too expensive. I do have a circa 1985 care bear that I won at an Easter egg hunt.
CrawlingKangaroo@reddit
I just passed an American Girl store today and the girls with their dolls were insane. I totally thought thank god they didn’t exist when I was into the books. I was have been insufferable wanting to get all styled and dressed up like my doll as my poor mom was just trying to make ends meet. I loved those books
Larry_the_scary_rex@reddit
Ahh I wanted this one soooo bad! I used to daydream about buying that winter outfit with the fur hand muff too!
NSAinATL@reddit
"found" "in the attic" like they're some sort of long lost antiques................/waterfall crying emoji
Miz_momo82@reddit
I had Samantha and all her outfits. They're all still in my old room
HAYYme@reddit
I had this one and I cut her hair 🙈
Gogogadgetarms79@reddit
My heart skipped a beat!!
shrimpcreole@reddit
Samantha was definitely the cool girl. I had the Molly set minus the doll because my mom saw the price in the catalog and had a good laugh. The Cabbage Patch dolls look pristine.
echochilde@reddit
Ha! I had Molly (… and Felicia? Red head. Can’t remember her name. Pretty sure it started with an “F”). Despite the fact that I very vocally stated my hatred of dolls. But my mom loved them, so I had to too.
Mindless_Flower_2639@reddit
Hi OP I work very hard to not have feelings and these pictures just gave me feelings.
folksongcat@reddit
I never got an American doll when I was younger and I always wanted Samantha. I bought Kirsten a couple of years ago and was going to get Samantha next but ended up buying Felicity this year.
PCWW22@reddit
Gold mine.
Munchkin531@reddit
Oh I'm jealous! Samantha was my favorite American girl doll. I read all her books but sadly couldn't afford a doll. She looks great!
the-cookie-momster@reddit
Has to be haunted right? Dolls from the attic generally. You been dreaming about living in the early 1900s New York City by any chance?
fattycatty6@reddit
Somewhere I have a Felicity and Addy from wjen they first came out. They are well loved. I always wanted Kristen though.
cafeteriastyle@reddit (OP)
All of my dolls are in pretty good shape bc I didn’t really play hard with them. Idk even as a child I wanted to keep them nice. I have a lot of porcelain dolls too that are in really good shape even though I handled them a lot
Cozy_Minty@reddit
I begged and begged for an American Girl doll when I was little and my mom never got me one. I think she felt guilty about it though and bought dozens for my little niece
Deep-Interest9947@reddit
Same. I had a million madame Alexander dolls and collector Barbies (all of which I wasn’t allowed to play with), but no American girl dolls. Maybe my mom was afraid I would play with it.
Cozy_Minty@reddit
I had a lot of Barbies too. Maybe my mom thought I would be too hard on an expensive doll because I used to chew on the Barbie's feet! They were so rubbery
Deep-Interest9947@reddit
I wasn’t allowed to touch the dolls I mentioned or take them out of the package.
I did have plenty of cheaper Barbies and cabbage patch kids to destroy.
Astrazigniferi@reddit
Are you me? These are almost identical to the ones my dad cleaned out of his garage and passed to me!
gentron1224@reddit
I can smell these books 😍
erinhannon321@reddit
Love this! I have Samantha and she is still in almost perfect condition in her original box along with some accessories and books. I wish I still had my original cabbage patch doll.
BlacksmithThink9494@reddit
This was my favorite one. Her hat was so cool
Puglet_7@reddit
My daughter (25) would drool over that American Girl!
It would say Pleasant Company on her neck. Pre Mattel take over.
She has a few of those ones. She is quite the collector-she tells no one. Lol.
