I’d get sleepy with the lights turned off to use this.

my current job (when I go into the office) still has one of these. I work remotely now, but they had one in there and nobody knew what it was, so I had to tell them.
LyranTaurus@reddit
Yup
Adept_External6531@reddit
My school district either had the 3M brand or the Elmo. My computer teacher in MS has a glass transparency unit that hooked up to his Apple. He would use it to show us how to use Claris Works. It was kept in a special pelican case. My 8th grade math teacher had a scientific calc for the overhead as well.
grandchester@reddit
Everyone brings the overhead projector up. What I remember are the slide shows or filmstrips that play with an audio cassette that beeped to go to the next slide. I can still hear the sound of the changing slides in my head.
WHRocks@reddit
You forgot the ditto worksheets. I can still smell them.
crazyk4952@reddit
Why was the ink always purple?
WHRocks@reddit
Not sure, but my kiddo asked me if that's why the Pokemon, Ditto, is purple. My mind was blown lol.
blacktrufflesheep@reddit
Sometimes, the kid selected to be in charge of changing slides at the beep would get confused and turn the dial the wrong way.

That is AI. Don’t fall into this trap of losing vigilance. AI is going to make all media soulless. Corporations want this to happen so they don’t have to pay actual artists. Also, don’t post obvious AI slop.
user08182019@reddit
What is AI?

And the CRT and VHS in a rollable cabinet..
meatsaballz@reddit
My classes had the version with the seemingly infinite scroll attachment so that teachers could rewind to last Wednesday and be like, “See, we covered this.”
Kinetic_Silverwolf@reddit
My high school chemistry teacher had one of those so that he could write out long equations.
During prank week we borrowed the spray water bottle he used for cleaning that infinite scroll and replaced half the water with flat Sprite.
detourne@reddit
I've even taught using one.
Rubik842@reddit
I used one of these back in the day with a VGA device sitting on top to VJ at parties. I still have the PC I did it with.
guiltypleasures82@reddit
Lol when I worked as a teacher in 2005 I still had one of these.
One-Earth9294@reddit
Yeah people overestimate school budgets if they think old tech gets phased out that quickly.
ES_Legman@reddit
We had them in uni as well and I hated when lectures used them because it made them so boring and dull
Weirdingyeoman@reddit
I don't know what it was but these things would put me to sleep within minutes.
djsynrgy@reddit
Anything that dimmed the room lights. These, film projectors, TV carts; all used to knock me TF out.
I mean, they still do, but they used to, too.

I had a pre calc teacher that used this every single day. 5th period, right after lunch. Not good when you typically got high during lunch
reannuh@reddit
Also had a pre calc teacher that used this but our class was first period… and the room was always really warm. Also not a good scenario 🙃
Professional-Car9621@reddit
To me this reminds me of the late 80s- early 90s
Crazydiamond450@reddit
I hated sitting by them, they were so hot
Any_Stress_5987@reddit
Yes this was in use while I was in highschool.
kimchiman85@reddit
Same
Derp35712@reddit
I remember when some guy pull out his dick and put it on it.
mareimbrium53@reddit
I actually now own one of these! I won an old one in a raffle. It's great for drawing something small you want to trace onto something bigger like a banner.
Urbanmech1@reddit
I remember misspelling again as agian in front of the entire class. Still traumatized
mattchewy43@reddit
My first job was with McDonald's. I started in January 1997. Eventually I got into management and as late as 2009 our operations director would use these in meetings. I remember one time I had to give a presentation and got to make my own "slides".
Smokeythemagickamodo@reddit
I always liked those precious few moments when the teacher had to align the transparency card thing.
makeshift101@reddit
Was always fun when you got to go up and mark on it instead of the teacher
GravyPainter@reddit
One of the halogen lightbulbs in these blow up when i was sitting right next it. I ducked under my desk because it so loud.
CorkFado@reddit
cries in film strip
I also remember the anthem being played on a 45 RPM every morning over the intercom in elementary school.
59apache01@reddit
I was the one who had to change the bulbs in those things. I had one teacher who would use this instead of the chalkboard.
smellmyfingerplz@reddit
Even in college we still had a those in math classes
hayekd@reddit
This reminds me how annoying it was to copy down everything for notes to study. I could never write quickly and neatly enough! When I returned to school a few years ago and you could download presentations my grades went up. Finally I could focus on the presentation and not on copying every little bit of info.
RanklesTheOtter@reddit
High School and even college we had these. Only the newly built building in college had marker boards.
emergency_salad_fox@reddit
I’m old enough to have used these as a teacher.
Moonskaraos@reddit
Back in high school, I’d watch the teacher set this up at the beginning of class and think shit, we’re taking notes all class.
olduvai_man@reddit
Jesus Christ I'm getting old.
epidemicsaints@reddit
I had a math teacher that would try to explain operations with negative numbers using two different colors of tiddlywinks on these and to this day I have no idea what she was on about.
