This works better than I thought it would.

What’s your end goal? Turn it around and sell for profit? Build and keep it? What levels of difficulty and cost do you have in mind?
An older Miata is great and has lots of forum and aftermarket support. A Corolla is just about the easiest to do. BMW’s offer more challenge and cost. 90’s era F-150’s are pretty cool. I wouldn’t recommend things like WRX’s, Focus ST’s, Mazdaspeeds, GTI’s, Cobalt SS’s, etc., as a good percentage of those will have gone through 8 owners under age 25 who beat the hell out of them.

The most I currently am willing to do is bolt on and a tune atm. Are any of the cars you listed good for learning stick?

Honda Civic for learning stick. Probably the best shifting car available. Second gen Miata (NB) also gets high marks in that regard.

What will be the main purpose of a car.

A Jeep YJ, TJ, or JK Wrangler, or an XJ Cherokee are all cool wrench turners. Absurd amount of bolt on projects in the aftermarket

Something common in your market that runs amd drives. Sit down and pick some end goals for what you want this project car to do. Thatll help pick a chassis to start with.

Mazda MX-5 Miata or Fiat X19.
