Instead of fighting wars with civilians, make the leaders fight each other like knights or kings used to.

This way we hire competent, smart, fit leaders... Not old ass men with ego issues in the position that's basically just for a celebrity, not our leader. We make better polling decisions. And we save lives of countless individuals from going to war.

There's at least one Emperor of Rome who personally engaged in a duel, Heraclius. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HeracliusI think there were some generals who did it as well. Point being that at the time personal achievements in battle were expected by those who led enemy forces.
Tbh, I could probably bring up some better historical examples, but I really can't care enough about this to.
