Company ignoring hometime

Only been with this company a couple months but they are starting to drive me insane. I do 3 weeks on the road 3 days off. Every time my 70 hr clock is almost out they send me some load that is completely impossible. I have to call them and tell them this won’t work. The way they run me I can’t do recaps. Anyway this week I am near home with about 23 hours on my 70 and get a load where getting to Kansas City and back to Fort Wayne to deliver. Its about 21 hours or more with no traffic. I have hometime scheduled. It already conflicts because I won’t get home until late one of the days I requested if I make it at all. Ran into traffic and now I’m looking at not even making it. Probably should’ve denied the load but I’m just pissed off because they’ve been good about getting me home and I feel like they’re just trying to screw me now and see how hard they can run me before I quit. Expressed my concern on the tight timeline via message and got ignored. Called and get sent to voice mail 3 times before I finally got ahold of someone hours later. He said oh just go home after. If I get hung out I’m just going into violation and driving home screw these people.

I pulled a refer for a company that promised home time every 2 - 3 weeks. After the FIRST 3 weeks and no home time in sight, and being empty in Ft Worth at 8:00 am on a Friday, Sunday morning I texted dispatch and the Operations manager that I was deadheading to the yard in Amarillo. Cleaned my truck out and quit. Future treatment of drivers is absolutely a reflection of past treatment. By the way, the pay was really good, but I value home time greatly. Plus if they don’t keep their word on on thing, they won’t on anything.

That’s sort of what I’m dealing with the miles and money are good but damn I literally work 69 of my 70 hrs every week and and home for like a couple days every 3 weeks and that’s still not enough somehow. I feel like 3 days for 3 weeks out is already bad hometime and they still tried to screw me out of some of it. Starting to think trucking as an industry is just fucked. Gonna just do this to pay off all my debt and go live in the woods in a camper and do some bs seasonal job at a national park lol.

Start driving back when it's time for home. Tell them they can either line you up with a load going back or be out of pocket for the fuel. Don't ask, tell. Even prisoners get outside time on schedule.

I’m at about 10 months experience so I was trying to stick it out a little longer to get a good daily job but I’m just gonna start applying now. Problem is I left my first company for this one at 6 months

Buddy, the worst they can do is say no and you apply back again later. I got my second job to work local with 6 months OTR experience even though they wanted 2 years experience. They needed drivers, and I had a good road test and that was that.

I jumped around a lot my first couple years. Youll be ok. I want to say i had 5 different jobs in my first 2 years and nobody cared. I just told them every move was an improvement. Dont talk bad about past jobs just say you found a better fit

On a trip like that factor in at least 10 hrs of possible delay time. No way 2 hr margin is enough.

That’s what I keep trying to get across. I’m gonna have to have a longer conversation because I’m repeatedly getting these loads with razor thin margins and it’s so annoying. Especially when it’s towards the end of my 70 and I have to do a 34 in the middle of nowhere.

It’s saying, “If for any reason ’m not at such and such point by such and such time I’ll be contacting you with direction where to leave the trailer for someone else to pick up or returning with the trailer. But I won’t be going over my hours or missing days off at straight pay.”

I left The Big Blue Screw because of hometime. I lived in Seattle and was 11 Western, and come time to go home, I'd be in Jacksonville, Mobile, Boston, etc. ; 11 Western became the states west of the Atlantic with hometime when it's convenient for them. After the second time it happened, I took the truck to our Portland terminal and parked it. Lots of other companies to drive for. On the other side of the coin, I drove for Roehl, and they flew me roundtrip from Chicago to LA once and another round trip to Albuquerque from Chicago for my home time. Lots of companies out there that give a shit to drive for.

Had a job like this. I was suppose to go to the beach with family. Had a load taking me to my state with a 2 days to spare and they sent me to a load that sent me back out. Ended up missing it and because dispatch basically closed during the week I was stuck in the truck. The next time they sent me to a yard I quit and took a greyhound back home

Any time my mega starts fucking with me on hometime, I start declining loads. I'll send a message telling them I have upcoming hometime and where I'll accept a load to. Before I started doing this, they played the "we don't have any freight game." Don't let these leeches bully you.

I quit my first driving job on my 3rd day of orientation. Had a job lined up while I was in training. Don't let these rat bastards get the best of you. Start applying to everything in your area. Local hourly with overtime. Or OTR if you can find hourly. That's super rare but they exist. People need to stop working for pennies per mile. Take percentage pay before you take pennies. I'm technically OTR I'm hourly. I don't haul freight anymore though. Look for jobs that use your CDL as a plus. That's where the real money is. Cryogenics is paying real good right now too. But you need a tanker and Hazmat I believe.

What dogshit company is this? Like the other guy said, you let them fuck with you they're absolutely going to keep doing it. When it's a day or so from your scheduled sometime, call them to make sure you're on track. If theyre trying to send you hundreds of miles from home the day before, say something.
