What are the "yellow boxes" that this song lyrics refer to (and what does 160 quid have to do with it)?

I love the song Full Circle by Good Health Good Wealth, but don't understand part of the lyrics in bold: >Answers on a postcard When is it okay to drive in a bus lane? **And what about those yellow boxes?** **'Cause I'm a hundred and sixty quid down and I can't work out if there's any consistency there** Initially i thought they were talking about men's boxers before realising he says boxes lol. What does it mean and what does 160 quid have to do with it? When is it ok to drive in a bus lane - there's signs with the times on. They're regularly random and different lane to lane. And what about the yellow boxes - yellow box junction no stopping in the yellow box, apart from you do actually have to go in the box whilst moving through/right turn. Quid means pounds (money), £160 either was a nice rhyme or maybe the real charge where they live. Fine costs for traffic offences vary. I assume the song is about uncertainty in a changing world, unless they've decided to appeal a PCN (penalty charge notice) via the medium of poetry. Which would be funny.

Couldn’t it be cameras to catch people driving in the bus lane? They exist in a lot of places- much more likely to get a fine from one of those than to be ticketed for pausing in a yellow box junction.

Yes, speed cameras or other kinds of traffic enforcement cameras. Google "gatso" and you'll see some examples. I don't know what's so difficult about it though. Don't speed, don't drive in bus lanes, unless there's a sign giving the times you can.

It’s 2x80 quid fines. One for the Box and one for the Bus lane.

We have yellow box markings painted on some junctions and you get fined for stopping on them. Councils use them as a cash cow. Look up yellowboxguru for more info.

**Yellox box junction.** Google image search it as I cant post images here I dont think, but it is essentially a yellow box junction is marked by criss cross yellow lines on the road to prevent gridlock at busy intersections. You must not enter the box unless your exit road or lane is clear, allowing your vehicle to clear the yellow area completely without stopping. And if ya do? Well they stick a camera on top watching, and if you stop... a little fine comes through the post.

I'm guessing it refers to box junctions. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/using-the-road-159-to-203 Rule 174 is the rule there. In London I think it's £160 as they're camera enforced. Yellow boxes are areas around road junctions where the tarmac is painted yellow. You're not allowed to stop your car in one or you can be fined. £160 sounds steep but the fines probably vary, or he's had several fines.

A lot of traffic cameras in the UK are yellow boxes. Could be referring to those. Alternatively could be a yellow hatched box on the road which is a no stopping zone. In either case the 160 pounds probably refers to a £160 fine for a traffic violation.
