Has anyone else discovered the magic of naps?

Afternoon naps are great! Lunchbreak? Quick nap. Got home from work? Power nap. Wife wants to sit together on the couch and watch a show I dont care about? Solid Nap.

I'm an avid 'anti-nap'er, but I get it, we're all different and running our own races.
...god I hate them so much...
RockingInTheCLE@reddit
Nope. I don’t like napping because then I don’t sleep well at night.
rooks1999@reddit
Yeah, naps mess me up!
ryhoyarbie@reddit
I’ll do a 5 to 10 minute power nap to rest my eyes. That’s about it.
GarciaWolf@reddit
I can’t if I go to sleep I’m done for the day

I watched one of those wired "ask the experts" deep dives where they start with a kid, then high school, then college, then a doctor then theoretical experts.
They're always interesting and I love how my brain keeps up and shuts off somewhere around high school/college.
The one on sleep had a line that stood out to me from the experts... if you nap 20-40 minutes can give you like 80% of the benefits of a full night's sleep without the downsides.
More than that your body starts shutting things down preparing for long term sleep and when you wake up it's like 'the fuck you doing?'
I think of it kinda like warming your car up in the winter. Mild inconvenience/effort, not necessary but you will feel quite a bit better if you do it.

My body has never been able to nap, no matter how sleep deprived. It will only do it sometimes if I'm horribly sick, and even then it's a very quick one.
MessageSpecial3696@reddit
I wish I could nap, I wake up nauseous and super groggy if I only sleep for an hour or so. It takes an hour to feel right again.
small___potatoes@reddit
I nap maybe once a year. Typically if I’m sick.

My job has recently shifted my schedule dramatically and I’m now expected to be on my first call at 5am and my last call ends at 10:45pm 4 days a week (Fridays are less bad). So I’ve been trying to take longer midday breaks and napping when able. Unfortunately, it doesn’t happen most days. Yesterday I fell asleep in my car while waiting in my 3rd-graders pick-up queue at school. That was embarrassing, but at least I had it in park.
Atillion@reddit
I love it, but the double edged sword is being unable to go to sleep that night 😞
NoInvestment3870@reddit
Nah, they just leave me feeling groggy. Although I did wake up feeling amazingly well rested after my last colonoscopy, I kept thinking “Is this how other people feel after naps?!?”.

"Siri, set an alarm for 21 minutes"
- me, on my 30 minute lunch break
Crowedsource@reddit
Some time in the past few years I have completely lost the ability to nap unless I am sufficiently sleep deprived. As in, 5 hours of sleep or less the night before. And I try to avoid that situation.
It sucks because naps used to be really enjoyable. Except when it's too late in the day and I would fall asleep during the day and wake up after sunset. That was always extremely disorienting.
thechristoph@reddit
Naps make me feel like shit. I sleep hot, so I wake up feeling greasy and sweaty, and I’ll feel half-asleep for the rest of the day.
New_Stats@reddit
Nope. 15 minute nap makes me feel like shit and a 3 hour nap means I ain't getting to sleep until 3 hours before I need to get up
Moons_of_Moons@reddit
I can't fall asleep quickly anymore. Even on flights I can't sleep. Wish I could cause I'm fukin tired 113% of the time, yo.
RipErRiley@reddit
Love me a good nap but they screw up my sleeping pattern if I get one in on a weekday.
BlankPaperTiger@reddit
I enjoy a good coffee nap on occasion, but am usually too busy to make them a regular thing.
ElPeroTonteria@reddit
Naps?!?!?
Hey, know the worst part of the day, like when ya first get up? Howdya liketa feel that way twice?
elphaba00@reddit
WFH nap? Absolutely
ckglle3lle@reddit
Yeah when I have the time for it. I wake up around 6:30 and by 2 or so I usually feel like I need a refresh. When my schedule allows I'll take 15-20m nap and it's great
swmtchuffer@reddit
I have a mandatory one hour lunch so I take a twenty minute eyes closed/nap every work day.
Plus-Pomegranate8045@reddit
I wish I could take a nap. Aside from when I’ve had the flu or something, I haven’t been able to fall asleep during the daytime since I was a little kid. Just can’t do it.
NoNotAgainOkGo@reddit
Don’t know why but I came bustin in here expecting to read what magical breakthru was made with wet naps only to discover you’re talking about REAL magic… ohhhh, those naps. Yes. Those are magical indeed. Don’t skip nap day 🥱
Aught_To@reddit
Yeah I work from home, i catch a nap every day. Instead of commuting i grab a quick rest these days.
VinylHighway@reddit
Been napping literally every day for the past 6 years and on weekends forever
I WFH
manicpixiepuke@reddit
I was at this level and suddenly now need a 2.5 hour nap when it’s nap time. I’m blaming perimenopause. Like I do everything else now. But man I regret all those naps I didn’t take as a kid!
