Ancestry webite has death record indexes up to 2025 so if you have a name and date of birth it would be possible to get an idea. HTH if you want to DM?

Just remember that Ancestry and most of the other genealogy sites now. Are owned or linked to one way or the other to the Mormons. Ancestry.com might be owned by Blackstone Capital and Singapore Sovereign Wealth Fund but is based in Utah. As the Mormons since 1896, have been seeking to record everybody who has ever lived. So that they can give them a remote, post-death, involuntary Mormon baptism. So that everybody that they baptise can go to their heaven.

Surely anyone with half a brain doesn’t give a shit about any of this?

It depends on how you feel about religion and getting on to a list, that will see you and your ancestors baptised into a belief that you and they don't believe in.

Not sure many dead people will care what with being dead and all.

There are private companies that can search for current addresses providing you can give a valid reason for searching for the individual.
I used one to find a current address to take a simple Court claim (Scottish Courts) against a former neighbour

You can try Scotland’s People to search for records in Scotland, for free.

You can find out if there has been a Death Certificate registered for him in recent years. There are some fees associated but it may help you to find him and to find out if he remarried here, or has died. The link to get started is here. https://www.gov.uk/research-family-history
