More software glitches / tech issues and weird sensor behaviors
wonder what would happen if one didn't have 4 mill subscribers lol
Ragnaroknight@reddit
Polestar is what Lucid wishes it was. I love my P2.
I traded my Model 3 for it and regret nothing, it's nice having physical door handles, and actual gauge cluster, buttons and knobs in the interior, and everything feels pretty premium.
Most of the quirks/issues are things I've seen on any modern cars infotainment.
SprackenZieEnglish@reddit
P2 may be good, but their models that have come after it have steadily gone downhill.
wiscotangofoxtreat@reddit
Any time I mention ota updates allow companies to release shit rodents I get downvoted. We need more buttons and knobs in vehicles and we also need software to jist be good at release and not require updating. No one wants a car to run like an iPhone 5 today.
Unusual-Arachnid5375@reddit
Doesn't work like that, kid. No OTA just means nothing ever gets fixed (or you have to go to the dealer to fix it).
Software is a mature industry. Fred Brook's seminal "The Mythical Man-Month" is over 50 years old. We what works and what doesn't.
One thing we've known for 50 years (and which is never going to change, no matter how hard you clench your sphincter and wish for it to be true) is that software teams never ship bug-free code on the first release. It. Never. Happens.
Not even NASA, with unlimited resources and multiple teams in parallel implementing the same spec in different languages, and then cross-checking the results, has ever flown a space mission with bug-free code.
Downvote me all you like, but you that doesn't change reality.
peakdecline@reddit
There is simply no software engineering solution that ships a true "final" version of a product for a system that is on the "network." You would have to eliminate all the connected services on modern vehicles and consumers demand those services.
OTA are a necessity. There's no avoiding it.
This is not the same as shipping software that is extremely buggy or incomplete.
dakta@reddit
I don't. I want the only way that the internet gets "into" my car is through my phone plugged in to the head unit. Making any part of the car itself Internet-connected is a maintenance and security nightmare.
If I want remote start, I don't mind having it on the keyfob.
peakdecline@reddit
Do I really have to add every exception to a post like mine? Do I need to spell out "except for u/dakta and and u/vargemp and my 85 year old neighbor and Bob on the other side of town"?
Shockingly used buyers don't influence how new cars are made.
vargemp@reddit
I want my car to be independent of everything, screw connected services. Thank god my current one is. Last of its kind.
wiscotangofoxtreat@reddit
I had a bolt for 3 yrs. It didnt have one UAT software update. It worked flawlessly.
GGCRX@reddit
I'm definitely not one of your downvoters.
I think we need better consumer protection laws for OTA updates of all kinds. At least twice now, I've had an OTA update fuck something up on my phone, but because it was out of warranty the manufacturer told me to pound sand when I complained.
I've never been OK with the idea that a company can, accidentally or otherwise, brick something I bought and own with no consequences.
bboytriple7@reddit
OTA updates that can change your engine oil pressure are absolutely terrifying (Ford)
wiscotangofoxtreat@reddit
Consumper protection? Imagine if we had an agency you could go to for that and, oh fuck its gone
GGCRX@reddit
Yeah. Obviously, this is something we need to address if we ever get a sane government again.
caller-number-four@reddit
I don't disagree with what you're saying in the least.
FWIW, my MachE allows one to disable OTA updates.
Larcye@reddit
Honestly ota updates that impact your vehicle at all need to be subjigated to heavy fines paid to the consumer. $1,000 a day or some shit. Dont want to have to pay that? Dont release bad software.
Ok-Hunt-128@reddit
Back in my day if a car needed an update to be functional or fix a bad config. It was called a recall. Now they can just release a half baked product and hope no one notices and keep updating it like its some website.
red_simplex@reddit
ota updates are definitely not the problem here.
e136@reddit
Bad over the updates are bad. Good over the air updates are good.
eZreazy@reddit
The problem is they’re releasing OTA that aren’t stable yet.
software versioning and updates is a thing in apps and works well.
wiscotangofoxtreat@reddit
No not specifically. They just encourage it to be more proliferate.
Tuxedo_Muffin@reddit
Found the person that loves release day updates for games. /s (hopefully nobody loves those)
gregm12@reddit
Not directly maybe, but they enable the mindset of shipping shit with the idea that it can be fixed later.
And sometimes you can't fix that shit later because you don't have the skills, the money, or it turns out the problem is actually a hardware issue.
fastLT1@reddit
Right, years ago some tesla fanboy was arguing how his car was better that day than the day he bought it. My counter was that my car didn't need updates as it was well sorted from the factory.
Its almost like they accept defects and hope and pray that one day the manufacturers will get to them.
canikony@reddit
To be fair, they do rollout features that make the car better along with some fixes. Sure there are a lot of BS and gimmicks between actual functional upgrades though.
takesjuantogrowone@reddit
The enshitification will continue until morale improves!
Jabbles22@reddit
Also why is this such a new issue especially? We've had computers in cars for decades now managing hundreds of parameters for internal combustion engines. If anything an EV should be simpler. Heated seats for example. The code to turn that on should be pretty well understood at this point.
Kiwifrooots@reddit
You could have a "manual" EV. Not the trans but just driver controls and car does what you tell it. Gas cars are built with stupid crap in them too - is modern cars not the fuel type
wiscotangofoxtreat@reddit
To me its people being okay with the car doing everything automatically. Its like on the rivian sub when someone is locked out of their vehicle and they suddenly realize why having a physical key is useful.
ehisforadam@reddit
I'm going to blame central computer and trying to cram everything into a single interface through a touch screen. Instead of a control panel with direct wiring, you move everything into a single interface that needs to do way more and then communicate with another module through CAN. Someone slacks on their but if code and the integration doesn't work right and you end up breaking stuff. Software developer mentality applied to much more complex physical systems.
89Hopper@reddit
Because cars didn't have the ability to do OTA updates. That means they had to test, retests try to break it, then test again before releasing a product, it had to work. Otherwise, the company would have to recall all cars and do an in person fix. This would be insanely expensive.
Now, they half arse it to get something out quickly and bypassing the checks knowing they can easily push an update later is cheaper. If something breaks, they push a fix for just that. Too bad there are 30 more bugs they didn't check for. Fixing that one problem then allows one of the other bugs to pop up.
It is like how video games 15 years ago had to work on release date. But now, AAA games are released and have a massive day 1 patch to fix bugs.
This is the result of car companies doing the move quick and break things model on a product that in the past, people just expected to work.
ihavenoclevername@reddit
Base functionality of one feature on one module is easy but integrating a vehicle (and fully debugging it) is a whole different story
bwoah_gimmethedrink@reddit
Just as with companies making traditional (faulty) software, the only real answer is to vote with your wallet. Don't buy a car with major software bugs on a promise that it's going to be fixed with updates. The car from the showroom and the one you're buying need to work flawlessly right out of the gate.
wiscotangofoxtreat@reddit
Its difficult today. I bought a car that does have buttons and knobs and basic screen functions.
My friend bought a cx90 because she like it had less screen implementation.
But so much od the market is releasing shit now, full blown /enshittification that its getting harder and harder to avoid.
boborian9@reddit
I've never understood why the entire way cars worked changed at once. Figure out EVs with normal interiors, or do the "high tech" interiors with ICE cars. Both at the same time has kind of been a disaster.
SushiRoe@reddit
Part of that change has to be attributed to Tesla, right? No dealership network and a technology forward company meant that addressing in the quickest way was to push OTA updates.
Conceptually, it's a good idea, but working adjacent to development teams, there's a reason most planned releases are on Thursdays. When shit breaks, they have another work day to fix it. It's a nuisance at best and a catastrophe at worst.
Meeganyourjacket@reddit
Amen to this. Or worse yet, cars that just won't run because something in the software becomes outdated.
GrigoriTheDragon@reddit
Gets another lucid lmao what a mistake.
ikilledtupac@reddit
Well I don't have 4 million follows so I have been forced into arbitration and paying for a lawyer even though they have had my car almost 3 months and its still broken
fuck Lucid
india2wallst@reddit
So you had a Maserati and decide to double down with a Lucid. Bro 😭😭
REIGNx777@reddit
Buybacks happen for normal people all the time. My Ioniq5 was bought back earlier this year (ICCU). Was a pretty simple process.
aka_mank@reddit
“Hyundai, please buy back my car for everything I paid for it.”
“Sounds good.”
REIGNx777@reddit
Yeah that's actually pretty much how it works. Have you never heard of lemon law buybacks?
It's pretty simple process (can be even simpler depending on the sate).
For my process, I filed a case with Hyundai corporate through their website. It qualified since it had been at the dealer for over 30 days.
tl;dr, I had the car for almost 4 years. Hyundai bought it back for more than a paid for it (since there were a bunch of rebates at the time). I actually ended up $6,000 ahead. Smooth process.
I made a post in the Ioniq5 subreddit detailing it, since a lot of people have been going that route with the ICCU issue being so common.
aka_mank@reddit
Yes aware of all the above. Been through it. We have different definitions of Simple
grendel_loki@reddit
Just need to send an attorney demand letter and they will.
Psycle@reddit
What was the process?
REIGNx777@reddit
I detailed it here in the ioniq5 subreddit

Lucid lowballs software engineers
lee1026@reddit
The problem with being in the bay area is that anyone who is even remotely a competent software guy is either working at the FAANGs or at least expect a FAANG salary.
So if you pay car company payscales, you get the guys who can't get FAANG jobs, and the hiring bar at FAANGs are pretty low these days.
zeph_yr@reddit
Maybe that was true 10 years ago, but not anymore. There’s a deluge of competent software engineers.
xlb250@reddit
I use lots of good software from mediocre pay companies. It’s not excuse for shitty software.
Toxic_Biohazard@reddit
I am a software engineer in the bay. Everything you have said is so wrong
Dark_Force@reddit
You sure about that? With all the layoffs going around
Mister_Poopy_Buthole@reddit
I was with him until that last statement too.
TheRealPizza@reddit
Amazon will take anyone with a pulse because they turnover engineers like every six months. Everyone else has higher standards
wiscotangofoxtreat@reddit
Facebook just laid off 10%
HamsterCapable4118@reddit
How badly?
JordanRulz@reddit
<300k TC for senior software engineers for autonomous driving
HamsterCapable4118@reddit
That’s pretty crummy for Bay Area huh. It’s always like that with enthusiast industries. Too many people want to work there because they think it’d be interesting.
longgamma@reddit
One of the rare Youtubers who actually challenged this car unlike Savageese and others who drool over this overpriced turd
TheRealPizza@reddit
Have you driven one?
india2wallst@reddit
No, Lucid Vancouver wanted 1400 CAD for the basic trim lease with low mileage. Why would I go with the Taycan with those prices ?
left_turn_signal@reddit
Easy when you get paid with perks to do that full breakdown video for Lucid on gravity.
canikony@reddit
I think the difference is other youtubers didn't buy one for themselves so they don't feel the pain of all these issues or even experience them. Huge difference between driving one around for a few hours/days vs owning one for a much longer period of time.
rollintwinurmomdildo@reddit
if you weren't famous you'd be one of the scrubs crying on the forums your car doesnt work. I have an actual job that needs me to show up I can't deal with a car that breaks this much.
lee1026@reddit
If you are rich and famous, you also get the luxury of having multiple cars.
rollintwinurmomdildo@reddit
I have more than one vehicle too, but a vehicle constantly breaking and having to coordinate picking up/dropping off from service is still mega inconvenient.
lee1026@reddit
If I were running a "car for rich people" company, either a dealer or a brand-dealer combo (like lucid), I would offer white glove service where in the event of car trouble, I just ask the client to leave the car in their own driveway. I would send someone over to pick it up, leave a loaner in the same spot, and then reverse this when the car is fixed.
Won't be cheap or anything, but at that price range, people's time is more valuable than their money.
rollintwinurmomdildo@reddit
yes but sadly when you have these many vehicles breaking, and such a small dealer network, you would go broke trying to coordinate that
Unusual-Arachnid5375@reddit
The problem is that Lucid is in no-mans land. Too mass-market for that kind of white glove service, but too costly (and not exclusive enough) for customers to put up with bullshit.
velociraptorfarmer@reddit
Especially when most dealers refuse to do loaners anymore, and only have a 10 mile radius for their shuttles.
Even better when their service desk refuses to answer the phone and you're stuck at work for an hour and a half before having to call your own uber because you're 6 miles from home at 6pm in the dead of Wisconsin winter.
Fuck you Ford
lee1026@reddit
Ford is kind of a budget line, so I get it, but what's Lucid's excuse?
If you run a business of "low prices for low service", sure, keep your costs low. If you run a business of "high prices for luxury", things are different.
velociraptorfarmer@reddit
Ford doesnt get to sell $70-100k vehicles and still get to play the bullshit budget games
Unusual-Arachnid5375@reddit
Sure, but they also sell sub-$30k vehicles under the same brand name. You can't expect the same level of service on an XL Maverick that you do on a F-150 King Ranch.
I bet they sell at least 10x as many $40k F-150 XLs as $90k Raptors/King-Ranches/Platinums, so those top trims aren't the main focus.
By contrast, Lucid doesn't sell any cars under $70k, and you really have to pay $90k to get one with reasonable equipment (what features you'd expect on mid-tier Accord). I'd be shocked if base-base Airs are even 10% of their sales.
Nhojj_Whyte@reddit
Most manufacturers in general don't get the luxury (pun intended) of playing the bullshit budget game in the current economy where no brand new car is truly a "budget friendly" option.
mt6606@reddit
Hahahaha silly consumer. The new model is luxury pricing with spirit service. And probably a subscription, coz, f you thats why.
IguassuIronman@reddit
I'm happy it's a ~15 minute walk to my house from the VW dealer and I WFH a couple times per week. Even then scheduling and planning around getting work done is a pain
ItsAndwew@reddit
"I have an actual job"
Damn man, that sucks
cgduncan@reddit
Idk why I only saw this for the first time the other day but
"only thing that sucks worse than working, is not working"
RedWire75@reddit
Kids in the Hall said in a sketch, “the only thing worse than having a job is looking for one”.
CaptainBuzzKillton@reddit
This is actually kind of accurate because looking for one and hoping you get hired on is agonizing as hell
willyolio@reddit
And that's when people end up accepting shitty work conditions, because they don't want to go through the stress of a job search all over again
CaptainBuzzKillton@reddit
Facts
cgduncan@reddit
My neighbor has been applying for jobs and interviewing for over 2 years now. It's awful. Has only even made it to a round 2 interview once.
CaptainBuzzKillton@reddit
Dang! I feel for him. Longest I've been without a job was nearly five months until I ended up where I'm at now. Will be seven years here in October

Source: have actual job FeelsBadMan
(I actually love my job though, but they do expect me to drive to show up to work)
ChaosBerserker666@reddit
This is why I live where I can take public transit (train) or cycle to work. I recognize not everyone can do that, but it’s one of the ways I deal with being a normal non-famous non-wealthy person. I’m not poor either though, since I can afford to have a car for other reasons (to go out of town etc). I just rarely commute in it.
MagillaGorillasHat@reddit
Almost no one can in the US. ~3-5% of people say they actually do and only ~11% of US adults say they use public transportation for any reason more frequently than once a week.
It's very difficult to live somewhere with frequent, reliable, public transportation.
ArcticBP@reddit
But yet 80% live in urban areas…
MagillaGorillasHat@reddit
And very few of those urban areas have frequent, reliable public transportation.
45% of the US says they have zero access to public transportation.
Same_Lack_1775@reddit
LA is an urban area yet has limited to no Public transit
icecream_specialist@reddit
Urban areas should be renamed metro areas. My previous place I could walk to the gym, grocery, eatery, park etc even though I'd mostly drive because they were on the way home from work. But with all that convenience I still had to drive to meet up with anyone because they all lived elsewhere
HeatDeathIsCool@reddit
That same census report goes on the say that the other 20% live in rural areas, so clearly suburban areas are being excluded.
PrivateMarkets@reddit
Mass transit doesn’t work with families (or say good shopping for large families). It truly works best in extremely dense MSAs but even then there are a lot of nodes (locations) that aren’t connected and require driving to reach.
willyolio@reddit
Yeah, living in a place where transit or biking is an option is very valuable. I bike on sunny days, and the car is if I'm running late or the weather is crappy.
xamdou@reddit
Except there absolutely is a hard monetary value on it.
Real estate in locations with good public transit systems is usually very expensive.
jiggajawn@reddit
Yeah, this is usually the case, but oddly not where I live. I live in a very transit accessible and bikeable area in the Denver metro. 4 mile ride to downtown on trails through parks and a train line next to the bike trail, real estate here is oddly affordable compared to other areas in the Denver metro.
We've also been building a ton of supply in my neck of the woods, so I imagine that's helping keep prices at bay.
ChaosBerserker666@reddit
Yes my condo was as much as most people pay for a big house. That’s a big part of the reason why.
icecream_specialist@reddit
That's the dream. I want my car to essentially be a luxury item, not because I'm priced out of it but because I need it mostly for two things: driving enjoyment itself or taking it to go do something enjoyable. Wish I lived in a place where I could do 40% walking/biking/transit, 40% golf cart/kei truck, 20% actual car
24_August_1814@reddit
Unironically yes.
I don't dislike my job, and sometimes I even enjoy it, but if I woke up tomorrow with a couple million bucks in my bank account I'd retire without hesitation.
When_hop@reddit
I have an actual job too but I work from home that's why I'm able to drive a subaru (and break it all the time)
anapoe@reddit
I'd love to buy a Lucid. They seem fantastic in a lot of ways and after decades of driving rusty old Subarus I could stand for some luxury. But you'd have to be absolutely insane to buy one given all the issues. Such a shame.
phr3dly@reddit
They've had some very compelling prices lately. I'm definitely their target demographic and have been tempted. But seeing the issues has scared me off. I won't say permanently, but at least until they have a few solid years of... not having issues... under their belt.
lurpeli@reddit
Yeah this is the real bullshit here. Consequences don't exist if you're famous. I feel sorry for a normal person who buys one and has to live with this shit
rollintwinurmomdildo@reddit
Exactly. I enjoy some of the YouTube content from some of these automotive creators, but its so painfully obvious they have to pull there punches on criticism because they're worried about losing access/perks.
Out of Spec is bad about this too, dude has the endless money glitch, but gets all these little side perks and insider access so even though he has all these Rivian's that constantly break, its all quiet and no big deal! Rivian service has a 2 month wait for appointments, but magically they got me in! The car is great! GTFO.
Same as the cyber truck they had. It's great it's great! Surprise Tesla has bought our truck back. Hmmm that's convenient, for an automotive content creator it would be great to make lots of video to cover your issues your having instead you make one, stay quiet on the rest so Tesla buys it back and you don't get wrecked on depreciation. Convenient...
nauticalfiesta@reddit
I have issues with Kyle (beyond him saying “ripping” so much when describing charging speeds. There’s definitely a level of done deafness from him. It can be distracting at times from the actual product being tested
t-poke@reddit
His videos are way too fucking long.
No one wants to watch a feature length movie about a fast charger.
jdore8@reddit
The Technology Connections fella could probably pull it off. He made a 40 something minute video on a can opener interesting.
RevvCats@reddit
I’ve been a subscriber to him for years and he’s a great presenter, very thorough, but god I wish he could try and cut down his videos a bit. I mean I’ll watch a 40 min video on can openers but it’d be really nice if it was in the 20-30 min range.
lonestarbrownboi@reddit
This is so true man every time I'm somewhat interested in a video I see the 1hr length and change my mind
24_August_1814@reddit
Man I used to love watching Vice Grip Garage, his longest videos were in the 90 minute range and most were around an hour. Bit long but no worse than sitting down for a movie. But he's gone completely nuts, every vehicle rescue now is multiple two hour long videos and I just can't
AwesomeBantha@reddit
Depends on how it’s made. I have zero interest in going to any Disney theme park ever but I watched a 2 hour video on the Fast Pass system and was glued to my screen for the entirety. I watched a 35 minute video on the largest CRT TV. Done the right way, I’d absolutely watch a 1 hour fast charger video.. but not if it’s just “I got this CRAZY fast charger!!!!”.
ZannX@reddit
Kyle's videos are basically just him enjoying the sound of his own voice. I watched a few back in the day when useful EV content was generally sparse. I started watching his videos at 1.5x speed and then decided I couldn't stand it anymore.
spamlet@reddit
OMG, this.
rollintwinurmomdildo@reddit
I knew him back in the old Obsessed Garage hey day about 10 years ago. Tone deaf is a good way to put it
Hustletron@reddit
And you get future access to new Tesla models that somehow people keep fantasizing about and keep clicking videos about and keep buying
They know where the money comes from
Don’t even get me started on Chinese EVs. The firm managing a fleet in North America and loaning them out for review in Cali while championing them on behalf of the Chinese government.
The bots manipulating public opinion and boosting cars being required for every launch doesn’t help either.
RevvCats@reddit
To be fair I know a few folks who work in the EV industry and they have all had nothing but positive things to say about Chinese EVs when they had a chance to try them out while overseas.
I don’t disagree about Reddit being botted to hell and back, it’s gotten so fucking bad across consumer products, entertainment, and politics.
cat_prophecy@reddit
Reddit is part owned by a Chinese company as well. Since Tencent bought in, the opinion on China has shifted dramatically. Anyone who disagrees or even suggests that the Chinese EVs might not be the greatest thing ever made, is shouted down.

One of my favorite 4wd channels kept staking tyres waaaaay out bush and got Cooper Tires to helicopter in a bunch of replacements.

No one.
No one would helicopter me half a dozen new tyres lol
24_August_1814@reddit
That's actually insane and hilarious. Yeah, bud, Cooper is so confident in the quality of their tires they'll fly replacements out if you manage to poke a hole in them...
Fozzymandius@reddit
I’ve taken my early model R1S in twice, the issue hasn’t been getting in in a timely manner or getting the car back quickly. It was actually just the annoyance of having to travel to a service center that’s far away (tbf I have the same issue with my wife’s Volvo). They’ve certainly had issues with service times but it seems to have gotten better. Luckily mine has not had issues outside of the battery recall.
Gilclunk@reddit
Did you watch this video? If he pulled any punches I can't imagine what they would have been. He's done multiple videos on this and pretty much ripped them a new one over all the software issues.
rollintwinurmomdildo@reddit
wasn't referring to Jason's video
jamesholden@reddit
I'm hoping none of that leaks to the renew channel. Dude on there seems legit.
ZannX@reddit
I'm not really shedding tears for anyone who can afford a Lucid. It's also a calculated decision buying a new manufacturer's first attempt at an automobile.
humjaba@reddit
I mean, lemon law is a thing. See it all the time on every car
w0nderbrad@reddit
Yea wtf Rivian and Lucid subs full of people with lemon law cars. Every single car company has a lemon law team whether they outsource to 3rd party or do it themselves. This shit isn’t the wild Wild West. Regular people use lemon law all the time. Some legit some fraud lol come to LA and there will be people at shady auto shops helping you claim lemon law lol.
If you bought it used then your SOL
Snoo93079@reddit
Ok having owned a Rivian it's not as mature as a Tesla, sure, but it's not NEARLY as buggy as Lucid based on EE's videos.
w0nderbrad@reddit
Software issues might be way less, but they have build quality issues up the wazoo. Regular posts about water leaking into the cabin from rain or AC in the Rivian sub. Growing pains for sure but... cmon.
Infidel707@reddit
Maybe they will soon claim "It's a Jeep/Bronco feature" just like those dealers from much older companies.
Snoo93079@reddit
Yeah, definitely some growing pains. I had little quibbles but nothing major. I expect them to get better with time.
stupidber@reddit
Jason who?
DaBanninator@reddit
He shoulda got another Tesla. Too bad Elon hurt his feelings 😂
sioux612@reddit
Is there anything that speaks against lemon law with lucid?
I had an audi sq6 that had software issues out the wazoo and after the normal three times for the same issue thing I wrote a letter and they took it back
LevoiHook@reddit
Blame Lucid, not Jason.
AtomWorker@reddit
Content creators are complicit because they shape perception. Companies wouldn’t inundate them with free stuff and insider access if that weren’t the case.
WHYUDODAT@reddit
Dude has carefully and constructively flamed Lucid in 3 videos. He fully acknowledged this development could be due to his reach. Not fair for you to wrap him up in your made-up "complicit" statement.
Snoo93079@reddit
How would you say that Jason is complicit based on this video.
He acknowledged all of this and has never pulled punches.
AmNoSuperSand52@reddit
I don’t see any part of his comment putting blame on Jason at all
He’s just acknowledging that this gesture from Lucid is hollow
FMJoey325@reddit
I don’t believe they are blaming Jason, just remarking on the reality
lostboyz@reddit
Having a social presence helps but lemon laws help most people, at least the original owners. Just talking about hiring a LL lawyer will usually get them to buy it back if it's a good faith argument.
StatusCount7032@reddit
People who have jobs and drive these type of vehicles probably have other vehicles and would be just fine.
rollintwinurmomdildo@reddit
I have more than one vehicle too, but a vehicle constantly breaking and having to coordinate picking up/dropping off from service is still mega inconvenient.
tazercow@reddit
That's why the lemon law exists
mustangfan12@reddit
Lucid is the next Fisker Ocean, Lucid has been around for almost 20 years and has almost nothing to show for it. They can't even get their act together with the Air despite it being out for 4 years. Jason also said his loaner Gravity immediately had issues once he finished making this video, I honestly am curious too see his video on his experience having a long term Gravity loaner
The most scary thing he said was when the car went into reverse, the car rolled forward on a hill because the software glitched out and changed hold mode to roll
LongjumpingLock5875@reddit
The long term loaner Gravity they gave him also completely crapped out.(go to 15:11 in the video)

Everything's computer on every EV which does kind of suck, but it seems like other ev manufacturers can make software that actually works. There's plenty of teslas and mach e's with over 200k on original drivetrains. I wish they could make a commuter car with these simplified drivetrains and not have every comfort item be motorized and reliant on glitchy software.
dumahim@reddit
Just think if someone built an EV with the electric srivetrain and not all the other fancy electronic crap they love shoving in as well.
FourEyesAndThighs@reddit
I don't trust any Youtube car reviewer, positive or negative. My friend's Lucid Air was used for Regular Car Reviews and they went out of their way to not show the software issues his was plagued with.
ZaheerAlGhul@reddit
Shut the brand down
RicardoMoyer@reddit
i wouldn’t touch that car but damn it is pretty to look at
nolongerbanned99@reddit
Legacy automakers spend way more time money an effort for quality control that companies like this or tesla. Sure. Trad cars also have issues but they do more testing.
Animanganime@reddit
Have you visited the Taycan sub or the vwid4owners sub?
_name_of_the_user_@reddit
I own an ID4. It's really not that bad. The buttons are annoying, but most VW products are cursed with these capacitive touch buttons. Aside from that mine has driven like a dream for 40k km so far. Any owners group will lean towards complaints. It's just human nature. But that doesn't necessarily mean that's the ubiquitous opinion.
Ok_Two_2604@reddit
There has been a lot of people posting how much they love their Lucids lately in various places. I guess they had the shills gearing up for this’s fallout.
7Sans@reddit
I still don’t get why he got lucid after getting rid of tesla which in of itself was stupid to begin with
I know his wife that was a tesla employee got fired and emotions ran and he got rid of tesla but that is, from a perspective of third party, “got mad so made dumb decision”
But ok fine, you want to get rid of tesla for your personal reason but why pick lucid of all other brands lol
Sindica69@reddit
Lucid has one single big time issue and its software. If they can get it figured out they’d be the best EV on the road, period.
Kamukix@reddit
I do wish the steering wheel had a different/better shape. I don't know didn't like the 'thickness/shape' at the 9-3 positions. It felt so thick to me.
I'm curious to drive another one though some day soon. Great ride quality, quiet inside, comfortable, fast.
I do think, and this is NOT a dig lol....but it's funny to me that they look like a modern-day high-end fancy Buick. A very good looking one, but man I wish it was a liftback!
markeydarkey2@reddit
Had the exact same observation driving one recently, the plastic backing for the buttons extrudes far further than it should. The wheel itself was giant too, not super comfortable to hold.
I LOVED driving the Touring I tried, but it's compromised in a few ways that are questionable. A liftback design with an extra inch or two of greenhouse for headroom and easier ingress/egress would have been spectacular though at least it has the giant clamshell trunk opening.
Kamukix@reddit
The interior space was totally good for me (I'm only 5-8" maybe 5-9" haha), but I definitely would prefer to find one with the slick top instead of the glass. I wasn't a big fan of the line coming down the center and the visors, but it's not the end of the world.
That steering wheel design though was just not good for me, I was surprised to not have seen/heard anyone remark on it on a single review I've seen...so I figured it's just me. The overall size is large, but it wasn't horrific, and I figured it was because of sight lines of the gauge cluster already being compromised, so they didn't wanna make it worse.
The frunk is amazing, absolutely the best I've ever used. (lived with Tesla, Audi, and Polestar cars) The trunk was kinda infuriating to me because of the clamshell design meaning it'll hit me in the head if I'm not careful, but mainly because of having to bend so much to put anything all the way to the back wall of the trunk. Very weird design, but the width was excellent, and the sub trunk is also good.
Just realized that you were talking about ingress/egress in regards to interior room haha, it's something I'd pay attention to, but not something foreign to me since I've owned many many cars with small openings, so I'm used to just automatically ducking as a rule when getting in or out haha. Made the mistake a time or two, and absolutely ROCKED my dome...I learned very quickly after that lol.
I want to drive another one and see how I feel about it. I only had about two hours or so with the one I drove. I'd love to rent one for a week and see how I feel about it afterwards.
canikony@reddit
That begs the question, why can't they get the software right? If that is truly the one thing holding them back from success, they should be focusing all their efforts and energy at getting all the stupid issues fixed instead of launching new buggy products.
Sindica69@reddit
One would think. Truth be told, I honestly don’t know. Someone else in another comment said it’s likely because software guys are hard to find in the Bay Area and they demand a high salary.
GoldenState15@reddit
Best in terms of what? Their cars would still be overpriced for what you get
Sindica69@reddit
Have you actually driven a Lucid Air?
GoldenState15@reddit
Yes, I've driven every trim
Sindica69@reddit
I’m surprised you’d still say so then. IMO the only EV that drives better than an Air GT is a Spectre, and the price range for that is far higher.
Glass canopy and interior quality is fantastic and the range is phenomenal. Great stereo set. Driver screens feel nice to use and not too overbearing.
Software imo is the only part lacking.
GoldenState15@reddit
Both generations of the taycan drive better, and to an extent, so does the e tron gt. The lucids have nice interiors but I still picked a taycan wagon over one when looking for a depreciated ev
Sindica69@reddit
Ah yea forgot about the Taycan. I only didn’t go for it because I enjoy long drives and the Lucid is just better for it.
GoldenState15@reddit
The taycan definitely looks better than the e tron and I barely see the audis around too
Sindica69@reddit
It’s a nice car with an impeccable side profile but I just do not like the interior. Range is lacking for a car of that value. Drives well though.
Snoo93079@reddit
How much do you think their cars are worth (assuming software was solid)?
GoldenState15@reddit
For the lower trim levels I would say starting at 60k with the sapphire being around 150k rather than 250k. Even then, the sapphire will still depreciate by 10's of thousands in a few years. The driving experience you get from these cars is really not worth 6 figures.
lonestarbrownboi@reddit
Hell of a garage you got there!
geokilla@reddit
His wife is not a Tesla employee, and the engineering behind the Lucid is the reason why he got it. It's the same reason SavageGeese loves it. The engineering. However, the software is a constant weakness and while the car may work for some, it's a disaster for others.
MechMeister@reddit
That guy is a hack though. Used to be a real informative channel but now it's just clockbait and commercials in disguise
canikony@reddit
I'm not a fan because his voice bothers me but his content is fairly solid.
Kamukix@reddit
Hack is a very strong criticism.
elinyera@reddit
It would be the same thing without the long term loaner.
BahnMe@reddit
These became kinda tempting when they started showing up for $40k but watching his videos made me hard stop and get something more reliable like a 5 year old Land Rover lol.
thejetssuckbigtime@reddit
I never thought I’d see the day when Land Rover and reliability are in the same sentence
weirdbutinagoodway@reddit
People complain about their reliability all of the time, they are the benchmark of bad reliability.
BahnMe@reddit
Haha same here, you just have to be really careful which configuration to pick. The 2021+ gets the much improved software and always pick the 6 cylinder petrol… not the diesels or the 4cylinders.
Somehow the inline6 with the turbo AND electric supercharger is the most reliable option if you replace some coolant orings and keep ahead of maintenance.
Low-Umpire236@reddit
Lucid is junk.
lowstrife@reddit
For those who didn't watch the video, there's a title card update towards the end.
Lucid bought back his car. They issued him with a long term loaner. The rear window got stuck open, cameras failing to load, and the cruise control "cancel" button not working. And so he sent it back without completing the long term loan.
What a shame. I've driven the car and agree with all the automotive journalists. The dynamics of it are incredible. It's just such a shame they couldn't execute at the same level with the software. That is ultimately what will (has) kill(ed) the company, its what they're known for now. Good cars, when they work, which is rare.
the_humeister@reddit
Naw it'll continue to survive because of the Saudis
kyldare@reddit
They're tightening the belt on a lot of their investments at the moment, especially with sports. I wouldn't be surprised to see that extend to other investments.
Not sure how much money they're willing to sink into a failing car company when it appears China is going to eat their lunch on the global EV market, and luxury EVs from well-known automakers will chip away at whatever market share they've got left in the US.
jabroni4545@reddit
Should've kept the tesla.
viperabyss@reddit
Wasn't his wife fired by Tesla?
Plenty of reasons not keeping the Tesla. Plenty of other American EV manufacturers make good cars, and they can use the publicity.
ThePizzaDevourer@reddit
You don't have to wonder, just look at comments from Lucid owners right here lol
ArthurFinchleyIII@reddit
Crazy the loaner had issues as well. What a car crash.
90Carat@reddit
Chicken shits. I was interested in Lucid. Though, they are clearly releasing beta products. When the problems start, they did the math, and just took one of the cars back.
